Grilli allowed an unearned run Monday, but was still able to lock down his 17th save of the season.
It was the second time Grilli has allowed an unearned run this month, and he hasn't allowed an earned run since May 27. The veteran closer has a 3.09 ERA this season in 23.1 innings this season.

Grilli picked up his second win of the season Saturday, pitching a perfect 10th inning and striking out one.
It's a bit unusual that Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez elected to use Grilli in extra innings in a tie game on the road rather than holding him back to protect any lead they might get in the top half of a frame, but it worked out for Atlanta. Grilli now has a solid 3.22 ERA and 29:8 K:BB ratio in 22.3 innings, and the biggest threat to his spot as the team's closer is the possibility that he gets dealt before the trade deadline.

Grilli blew his second save of the season on an unearned run in Tuesday's extra inning loss to San Diego.
The error was Grilli's own after he allowed a Yonder Alonso ground rule double to open the inning. He is a sharp 15-of-17 on save chances with a 12.1 K/9 but his 1.31 WHIP is nearly identical to last year's mark, and a steady flow of baserunners rarely bodes well for a closer.

Grilli struck out one in a scoreless ninth on Sunday against the Giants to pick up his 15th save of the season.
The veteran closer's 4.15 ERA is still a bit high after being scored upon four times in his last nine appaerences, but his 15 saves and his stellar 12.4 K/9 still make him an attractive fantasy option. Grilli is locked in to the ninth inning role for Atlanta as long as he puts his recent struggles behind him.

Grilli gave up a home run to Alex Guerrero on Wednesday but escaped with his 14th save of the season.
While Grilli has a less than stellar 4.41 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 17 appearances this season, he's given up multiple runs just once and is 14-for-15 in save opportunities. Jim Johnson has been very good in a setup role (2.42 ERA, 1.12 WHIP) and has picked up a couple of saves, he does not appear to be a serious threat to Grilli's closer job at this point.

Grilli gave up a hit and no runs while striking out one Wednesday against the Rays to pick up his 12th save of the season.
Despite having a 4.73 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP, Grilli is now 12 of 13 in save opportunities. Wednesday's outing was Grilli's first in four days after having given up runs in four of his past six outings.

Grilli gave up one run on two hits Saturday, but got Giancarlo Stanton to fly out with a runner on base to preserve a 5-3 Braves win and pick up his 11th save of the season.
Pitching on back-to-back days, Grilli scuffled but was still able to get the job done. He's been scored on in four of his last six appearances, however, and while his recent back spasms bear some of the blame, a 5.11 ERA isn't going to keep him in the closer role much longer if he doesn't start bringing it down.

Grilli logged his tenth save of the season, allowing just a walk in a scoreless ninth inning as the Braves defeated Miami 5-3 Friday night.
Grilli suffered some back spasms a few days ago, and had a couple of shaky outings after returning to his bullpen duties. He followed Jim Johnson to the hill after Johnson twirled a scoreless eighth inning in this one, and appears to be secure in his closer's role.

Grilli (back) took the loss Tuesday, giving up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Reds.
This was Grilli's first appearance in six days after being sidelined by a sore back. He came in during a tie game and gave up a one-out single to Brayan Pena and then Devin Mesoraco hit a game-winning pinch-hit double. While it was tough to see him surrender runs Tuesday, it was nice to see that he was healthy enough to pitch. He should continue to operate as the Braves' closer going forward.

Grilli (back) will let manager Fredi Gonzalez know prior to Tuesday's game whether he's ready to pitch, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Gonzalez wants a definitive "yes" from Grilli, something he evidently didn't receive from his closer prior to Monday's game. The skipper will continue to leave it in Grilli's hands, and if there's any trepidation, Jim Johnson could get the call in a save situation yet again.
Tue May 12 201500:33Grilli (back) given one more day of rest against Reds on Monday ...
Grilli (back) was given one more day of rest against the Reds on Monday by manager Fredi Gonzalez, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
Grilli was originally listed as available by Gonzalez for Monday's game but the manager decided to err on the side of caution to prevent further injury. The reliever will likely be available out of the bullpen Tuesday, although Gonzalez will dictate whether or not that actually means he takes the mound. Either way, it doesn't seem that Grilli's back spasms will affect his long-term viability.
Mon May 11 201517:18Jason Grilli: (Back) Will Be Available Monday
Grilli (back) will be available out of the bullpen Monday night, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.
Grilli was unable to pitch the last couple days due to a sore back, but he is feeling better, and will be available in a save situation if needed Monday night against the Reds. Grilli has nine saves on the season, but he has recorded just two since Apr. 25.

Grilli had back spasms and was unavailable to pitch in the weekend series against the Nationals, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
Consider Grilli day-to-day until further notice. Should he miss any more time, Jim Johnson would likely close in his place.
Sat May 9 201520:31Jason Grilli: (Undisclosed) Unavailable Saturday
Grilli (undisclosed) was unavailable for Saturday's game, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien reports.
Gonzalez would not elaborate about why Grilli was unavailable in a game where Bryce Harper hit a walk-off homer in the ninth inning off Cody Martin. However, he did say he was hopeful it was just a one day thing. Consider Grilli day-to-day for now.

Grilli allowed one run on one walk and two hits with two strikeouts to pick up his ninth save of the season Thursday against the Phillies.
Grilli gave up a single to Ben Revere to start the ninth then gave up a two out RBI single to Darin Ruf before striking out Odubel Herrera to end the game. It was Grilli's ninth save in 10 opportunities, and he'll continue to close games for Atlanta.

Grilli blew his first save of the season Tuesday, giving up a three-run home run to Dan Uggla in the ninth inning.
Heading into Tuesday's game, Grilli had recorded seven saves in seven appearances and had pushed his ERA down to 1.29. However, after giving up three runs and the homer to Uggla, his ERA is up to 4.50 on the year. Don't expect this one outing to change his role with the Braves, though.

Grilli struck out two during a scoreless ninth on the way to his sixth save of the young season on Sunday against the Blue Jays.
The trade that sent Craig Kimbrel to San Diego did wonders for Grilli's fantasy value and he has been great to start the season, picking up a save in each of his six apearances and posting a 1.50 ERA to go along with 10 strikeouts. A surprisingly competitive Braves team has yielded plenty of save opportunities thus far for Grilli and he is among the top fantasy relievers out there as long as he continues to pile up the K's as well.
Tue Apr 14 201500:08it Grilli who earned fourth save of year Monday
After Jim Johnson earned the save Saturday, it was Grilli who earned his fourth save of the year Monday.
Grilli did allow a run on two hits, but was able to close the door by striking out three Marlins in his inning. The veteran has been off to a strong start this season and should be able to hold down the closer role if the first few games have been any indication.
Sat Apr 11 201501:12Grilli notched third save of season with scoreless inning agains...
Grilli notched his third save of the season with a scoreless inning against the Mets on Friday night. He walked one and struck out one.
Following the trade of Craig Kimbrel the day before the season began, Grilli was named the closer for the Braves and has done nothing to tarnish that title. Jim Johnson, the most likely replacement should Grilli falter, pitched a strong eighth inning as the surprising Braves kept their 2015 season perfect.

Grilli struck out a pair and tossed a scoreless ninth inning Monday against the Marlins to secure his first save opportunity of the season.
Following the surprising trade of Craig Kimbrel to San Diego on Sunday night, the Braves had an unexpected vacancy in the closer role. Jim Johnson tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in front of Grilli, and he's likely the next in line to finish out games for the Braves if Grilli scuffles in the near future. Grilli was sitting at 94-95 mph with his fastball during his outing Monday.
