Frye relinquished his starting job under interim coach James Borrego in favor of developing the younger players in a lost season. His three-pointer shooting gives him a leg up to reclaim starting power forward, but it'll take an increased effort on the defensive end, especially since he recorded a team-worst 107.4 Defensive Rating. When paired with Nikola Vucevic, that number elevated to 110.5. Frye's contract de-escalates the remaining three seasons, making him potential trade bait over the next three years.

Frye played four minutes on Wednesday against the Bulls after three straight DNP-CDs.

Frye's playing time has gone to Dewayne Dedmon and rookie Aaron Gordon. The return of Evan Fournier also jeopardizes Frye's minutes moving forward with coach James Borrego utilizing eight-man rotations, prioritizing defense first.

Frye was a healthy DNP-CD on Wednesday against the Spurs.

Frye played a total of 15 minutes the previous two games after missing one game with an illness. He's been marginalized with coach James Borrego committed to Dewayne Dedmon on the defensive end. Even with all his hang-ups, Frye has made 134 three-pointers this season, good for 15th best overall and most among power forwards and centers. That's where Frye's fantasy value lies.

Frye will not start Friday's game against the Pistons, Detroit announcer Mark Champion reports.

Frye is presumably available after playing Wednesday following a one-game absence, but he will not be in the starting lineup. Andrew Nicholson will start at power forward for the Magic on Friday night.

Frye (illness) will be active and available to play Wednesday, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
