White Sox manager Robin Ventura has used Paul Konerko exclusively as the designated hitter since the slugger returned from the disabled list on July 22.
Konerko was shelved for 19 days with a lower back strain and the skipper has played it safe with him since Konerko's return. "It's just more protecting his back," said Ventura, who admitted that Konerko suffered "a little something" while running the bases earlier this week. Ventura may return Konerko to first base as early as this weekend in Detroit.

Paul Konerko went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in a loss to the Tigers on Tuesday.
Konerko was activated from the disabled list on Monday and came through with the two-run double in his last at-bat Tuesday. It was his only hit in three at-bats on the night and he's just 1-for-6 (.167) in the two games since his return. The veteran first baseman is hitting .247 on the year.

Konerko sat out 19 days with a lower back strain. The first baseman hit the ball well on his rehab assignment and will try to carry that over in his return to the big leagues. He has posted a disappointing .249/.314/.368 batting line in 67 games so far this season.

Paul Konerko will play his second of four games on a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Birmingham on Friday.
Konerko was a little sore and said to be "dragging" when he woke up on Friday, after playing in his first rehab game on Friday. Barring any setbacks, he should rejoin the White Sox lineup early next week.

Minnesota swept Chicago, but at least Konerko woke from his season-long offensive slump. The veteran slugger went 7-for-12 over those three losses, raising his average from .235 to .252. Thursday's home run was his first since June 8.
