Rodriguez said he "never, when I came here to stay, when I came up to the big leagues," dreamed of reaching 400 saves. "I was just a little kid with a lot of dreams. But never, not even close in my mind (did I think of 400 saves). I don't play for numbers. I play this game because I love it. I had it in my veins. I know how to do well. Players who age and lose their velocity need to change the way that they pitch and Rodriguez has done a fantastic job of that late in his career.

Rodriguez (0-3) took the loss in a 12-9 defeat to the Reds on Saturday, suffering first blown save of the season after surrendering four hits, four runs (three earned) and one walk in 0.2 innings. He struck out a batter.

It is likely just a hiccup for the dominant K-Rod, who had been a perfect 30-for-30 in save opportunities on the season before Saturday night. Saturday's downfall came on a 2-1 mistake that Joey Votto muscled into the left-field bleachers after Jay Bruce had led off the ninth with a single. Although he now has surrendered a total of eight earned runs in August, K-Rod remains the unquestioned ace of the Brew Crew's bullpen.

Rodriguez was pulled back on waivers and will remain with the Brewers for the remainder of the season, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.

The Mets were considered candidates to go after Rodriguez before the waiver trade deadline, but the Brewers took him off waivers and will retain the veteran closer for the remainder of the year.
