Fri May 27 201123:29Brett Myers struggles again
Brett Myers struggled again on Friday, allowing four runs on five hits, three walks and two home runs in 5 2/3 innings of Houston's loss to the Diamondbacks.
He struck out four, and let Juan Miranda tag him for two-run homers in both the fifth and sixth innings. After failing to go six innings just once in 33 starts a season ago, Myers has now done so twice in his past five outings, and allowed four or more runs in six of his past seven starts. He's looking a whole lot like the pitcher the Phillies let walk following the 2009 season.

Sat May 21 201116:03Myers gives up six runs in loss
Brett Myers was chased for six runs -- five earned -- over 6 2/3 innings as part of a no-decision in Saturday's loss to the Blue Jays.
Myers cruised through the first five innings, but allowed a three-run homer to Jose Bautista in the sixth inning and was charged with three runs (two earned) in the seventh. He now has a 7.03 ERA over his last four starts, increasing his ERA to 5.00 for the season. While Myers had luck on his side last season, the opposite has been the case so far in 2011. He'll attempt to rebound next weekend against the Diamondbacks.

Thu May 5 201115:58Brett Myers takes second straight loss
Brett Myers surrendered six runs in 5 2/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Reds.
Myers had a 2.39 ERA after four starts, but he's given up 15 earned runs in 18 innings since. With offensive support likely to be a problem all year, he's a pretty weak choice in mixed leagues.

Sat Apr 23 201123:16Myers allows 10 hits, five runs to Brewers
Brett Myers surrendered 10 hits and five runs over six-plus innings Saturday in a no-decision.
The Astros wound up winning in extra innings, but no thanks goes to Myers. He was knocked around quite easily and did not perform well in damage control, watching his ERA shoot from 2.39 to 3.31. The righty will try to improve next week when he faces Milwaukee again.

Sun Apr 17 201117:54Myers again quality, but can't move to 2-0
Brett Myers turned in his fourth straight quality start to begin the season on Sunday, but got stuck with a no-decision in Houston 8-6 loss to the Padres.
The veteran righty wasn't at his best, allowing 10 baserunners in six innings of work, but managed to allow just three runs. Nevertheless, he was unable to pick up his second victory while striking out five and walking two. His next start should come on Saturday against the Brewers.

Fri Apr 1 201116:08Brett Myers receives no-decision
Brett Myers pitched well but received a no-decision Friday, giving up just two runs -- one earned -- on three hits and three walks over seven innings in a 5-4 loss to the Phillies.
Myers struggled with his curveball in the cold conditions, but he spotted his fastball well enough that the Phils were unable to square much up against him. He lost out on a win, however, when Brandon Lyon coughed up a two-run lead in the ninth. Myers will face the Reds next week in his next outing.

Mon Mar 21 201116:02Astros' Myers gives up 12 more hits
Brett Myers had another awful outing Monday, surrendering five runs and 12 hits in five-plus innings against the Tigers.
That makes 33 hits allowed in 18 innings this spring. Myers will be the Astros' Opening Day starter, but unless he really turns things around in his final spring outing, he'll have to be reserved in fantasy leagues initially.

Fri Mar 18 201111:09Myers to start on Opening Day for Astros
Brett Myers will start on Opening Day for the Astros.
Astros skipper Brad Mills made the announcement Friday in camp. Wandy Rodriguez might have been a good choice too, but he's been dealing with a bit of shoulder tendinitis and will probably be well served with a few extra days of rest. Myers, 30, went 14-8 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.24 WHIP last season for a bad Houston team.

Fri Mar 11 201116:26Astros' Myers hit hard by Red Sox
Brett Myers was roughed up by a Red Sox split-squad on Friday, allowing five runs and six hits in three innings.
He struck out one and walked tow in the loss. The Red Sox brought just two regulars with them, so Myers should have had a lot more success today. Still, it's just one outing and he did enter with a 3.60 ERA.

Mon Mar 7 201104:28Yankees place Myers on their radar
The Astros' Brett Myers is on the Yankees' radar as a potential addition to the back end of their rotation.
After facing him in a spring training game, the Yankees were impressed with what they saw. In 2010, Myers posted a personal best 3.14 ERA in a career high 223 2/3 innings. He is signed through the end of the year with an option for 2012.

Sun Oct 3 201016:58Myers wins BBWAA hardware
Brett Myers was voted the Astros' Pitcher of the Year by the local Baseball Writers' Association of America.
The former Phillie had a great year, going 14-8 with a 3.14 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 180 strikeouts in 223 2/3 innings. He got there by showing the best walk rate of his career, but he also got a little lucky with home runs. He generally keeps the ball on the ground and has that nice walk rate with an average strikeout rate - so he's a good pitcher - but he won't sustain home-run luck in that Houston ballpark again. Walk the expectations back a little bit for 2011.

Thu Sep 30 201022:05Myers finally fails to go six innings
Brett Myers allowed eight runs over 5 2/3 innings in Thursday's loss to the Reds.
Amazingly, it's the first time all season that Myers hasn't gone at least six innings. The Astros certainly tried to let him keep the streak going, as they kept him in for 114 pitches even though he'd given up eight runs on 10 hits and four walks. Despite the year ending on a sour note, it's been a great season for Myers, as he concludes the year with a 14-8 record, 3.14 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 180 strikeouts over 223 2/3 innings.
Fri Sep 24 201022:42Myers struggles way to 14th win
Brett Myers improved to 14-7 on the year, despite allowing five runs over six innings against the Pirates on Friday night.
Myers has now pitched at least six innings in 32 consecutive starts, but this particular outing was a struggle. He surrendered six hits -- including a solo home run by Andy LaRoche -- while striking out a season-low one and matching a season-high with four walks. It was the first time Myers had allowed more than four runs in a start since June 29. Hopefully he has one more gem left in him with a start against the Reds next week.
Sun Sep 19 201016:58Myers goes seven scoreless to record win
Brett Myers threw seven shutout innings to beat the Reds on Sunday.
Myers scattered six hits and a walk while striking out five. He's now 7-1 with a 1.89 ERA in 13 starts since the All-Star break and a still impressive 13-7 with a 2.76 ERA on the season. There's little reason to think Myers will be able to prevent home runs in 2011 as well as he has in 2010, but with the Pirates and Cubs due up for his last two starts he remains an elite option in all formats.
Mon Sep 13 201023:25Myers fans 10 batters, Astros beat Brewers
Brett Myers struck out 10 batters and allowed just one earned run over seven innings Monday as the Astros topped the Brewers 4-2.
Again, an impressive start by Myers. He's lasted six or more innings in each of his 30 starts this season and now sports a 12-7 record, 2.85 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 167 strikeouts over 205 innings. The right-hander will battle the NL Central-leading Reds next week. He remains an obvious must-start.
Wed Sep 8 201023:33Myers goes six-plus innings yet again
Brett Myers twirled seven innings of shutout ball to beat the Cubs on Wednesday night.
Myers extended his streak of lasting six or more innings to 29 starts while striking out eight and walking just one. It's another gem in a stunning season that's been full of them. There's no reason to think Myers will slow down over the final three weeks.
Mon Aug 23 201022:14Myers silences former team Monday
Brett Myers held the Phillies to two runs over seven innings Monday, picking up his ninth win in a 3-2 victory.
He gave up nine hits, walked one batter intentionally and struck out nine. Myers kept his amazing streak of pitching at least six innings, something he's done in all 26 starts this season. The right-hander boasts a 3.08 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in what has been an impressive bounce-back season. He'll face the Mets the next time out.
