RHP Ryan Tepera was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo Monday to shore up an overworked bullpen and INF/OF Jimmy Paredes was designated for assignment to make room for him. It is Tepera's third stint with Toronto. In his past five outings at Buffalo, Tepera allowed four hits, one walk, no runs and had 10 strikeouts. He did not pitch in the 4-2 win over the New York Yankees on Monday. In three games with Toronto he has allowed five hits, three walks (one intentional) and three runs in 2 1/3 innings. Manager John Gibbons feels that Tepera has not yet performed to his ability. "He's got a better arm than most guys you're going to see in the league," Gibbons said. "I think right now it's a confidence thing. A little success will do wonders for him."

He appeared in 32 games with the Blue Jays as a rookie in 2015 and had a 3.27 ERA over 33 innings. He appeared in the eighth inning of the 4-0 loss to the White Sox on Wednesday and allowed one run on two hits and a walk. "He should've made the team coming out of spring training, but then we picked up (LHP) Franklin Morales and that hurt him," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He's back where he belongs."

Tepera will take the roster spot of Brett Cecil, who will miss the remainder of the postseason with a calf injury. Expect Tepera to serve as a middle relief option for the Blue Jays.

He isn't an especially promising prospect, but his recent performance at the big-league and Triple-A levels suggests he could be a solid middle reliever.

He allowed one hit and struck out one in just one-third inning of work Sunday, but the hit allowed a fourth run to score in the top of the 9th inning. No corresponding move has been announced, but Tepera will once again serve as organizational depth.

Tepera struck out one in a perfect inning against the Marlins in Monday's victory.

Tepera has been used sparingly this season, but is currently in possession of a sparkling 0.72 WHIP, pitching 8.1 innings with six hits allowed and no walks to go along with seven strikeouts. Tepera hasn't been entrusted with pitching in any sort of high leverage situation and has limited fantasy value due to his low innings count and lack of counting stats.

Tepera made his first career MLB appearance, pitching two perfect innings with a strikeout.

Pitching the seventh and eighth innings, Tepera opened his MLB career by facing Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez, getting all three out in order. He had good numbers in Triple-A and with how much the Jays bullpen is in flux, he could see some higher leverage situations; however, he has limited fantasy value due to the revolving door nature of their bullpen and his lack of counting stats.
