The Clippers are hoping to sign free agent C Ryan Hollins.

The Clips hope to sign Hollins for a veteran's minimum contract for about $1.07 million. He last played for the Cavaliers and Celtics, and would simply be a backup for DeAndre Jordan in L.A.

Hollins' deal is up at the end of the season but the Cavs decided not to wait any longer. Hollins hadn't played in the last two games and was averaging just 3.7 points and 2.3 rebounds this season. The seven-footer could latch on with a team looking for size beneath the basket, and the Celtics make a lot of sense with how badly Boston needs a center.

Hollins logged 31 minutes on Saturday, posting 15 points, seven rebounds and no blocks. He did more than enough to keep Semih Erden on the pine. Alonzo Gee will also stick as the starting small forward ahead of Omri Casspi, as expected.

Hollins remains an intriguing seven-footer, but at 26 years old we're not expecting him to develop much further. With the Cavs frontcourt decimated last season, he still barely had deep-league appeal.

Hollins also managed to get under Charlie Villanueva's skin, to say the least. Both players were ejected in an incident that is sure to draw more attention from league officials on Tuesday, and it wouldn't be surprising to see both punished to some extent.

It's a nice line for the scrawny center, but it's more of an anomaly than anything else. Owners have to to be absolutely desperate to deploy him, and we wouldn't recommend playing him on most nights.
