Sun Aug 11 201310:02Wandy Rodriguez's pen session goes well
Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) said he had "no problems" during a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday.
It's a nice step, though he didn't throw at full effort and didn't use his curveball. "I was scared of my arm, because I didn't want to feel pain again," he said. "I want to feel comfortable for my arm. I feel good." Assuming he feels fine Sunday, Rodriguez will throw another bullpen session Wednesday.

Fri Aug 9 201318:09Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) to throw bullpen
Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) is slated to throw 25 pitches in a bullpen session Saturday.
Rodriguez will throw just fastballs and changeups. While the veteran southpaw is back on a mound, he's still likely a few weeks away from being a realistic option to rejoin the Pirates' rotation.

Wed Aug 7 201316:01Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) throws off mound
Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) throw off the mound Wednesday for the first time since being placed on the disabled list.
The next step calls for him to throw a bullpen session Sunday. Rodriguez has been out since June 5 with forearm soreness, but there's a chance he could rejoin the Pirates in September if he can avoid setbacks.

Thu Aug 1 201321:34Wandy Rodriguez won't return before Sept.
Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) will not return before September, at the earliest.
Rodriguez threw "nice and easy, loose" from 60 feet Thursday, but it's still unclear when he'll be ready to throw off a mound. He could obviously benefit from a rehab assignment, though it's possible the minor league season could be over by the time he's ready for one. "We do believe there is a progression he needs to go through, completely," manager Clint Hurdle said, "before he gets on the mound, and we are following that. He is very encouraged with the improvement."

Rodriguez has been sidelined since June 5 with forearm soreness and is still in long-toss mode. It's not clear when he'll be ready to get back on the mound, so he's still a long way from rejoining the Pirates' rotation.

Thu Jul 25 201310:58Wandy Rodriguez (arm) plays catch from 80 ft.
Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) made about 60 flat-ground throws from a distance of 80 feet on Wednesday.
It's a nice step in the right direction for the left-hander, who has been sidelined since June 6 with forearm and elbow discomfort. There is no timetable for Wandy's return to the Pirates' starting rotation and it's not certain that he will be able to pitch again this year. "Still long way to go," manager Clint Hurdle said Wednesday.

Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) threw long-toss on Saturday and Monday with no issues.
It's a nice first step, but Rodriguez won't really be tested until he starts throwing with full intensity from the mound. It's not clear when that might happen. The left-hander has been sidelined since June 6 with a left forearm/elbow injury.

Mon Jul 1 201314:42Wandy receives platelet-rich plasma for elbow
Wandy Rodriguez received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Monday for his injured left elbow.
Rodriguez will need at least three more weeks of rest, recovery and rehab. The veteran left-hander has been sidelined since early June and is not going to return to the Pirates' starting rotation until after the All-Star break. He had a cool 3.59 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 46/12 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings before developing his elbow issues.

Sun Jun 30 201313:59Wandy Rodriguez might have injection
Wandy Rodriguez could receive an injection for his left elbow on Monday.
It was previously reported that he was given a cortisone shot Sunday, but evidently that was premature. He could still receive one, though, as the Pirates are having a tough time getting a handle on Rodriguez's forearm/elbow issue following a couple setbacks.

Wandy Rodriguez has been given a cortisone shot in his left elbow.

Sat Jun 29 201316:25Wandy has lingering soreness in left forearm
Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) experienced soreness in his left forearm after throwing a bullpen session Friday.
It's yet another setback for Rodriguez, who was supposed to return from the disabled list by the end of June but can now be ruled out until at least mid-July. Wandy had a 3.59 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 46/12 K/BB ratio in 62 2/3 innings before hitting the shelf. This is obviously a troubling development for the currently-cruising Pirates.

He is expected to return from the 15-day disabled list later this week, which will push Jeanmar Gomez back into a long relief role. Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) will throw another bullpen session before the Pirates determine whether he's ready to begin a rehab assignment.
