Smith scored 12 points (6-8 FG) with seven rebounds and five assists in 31 minutes during Tuesday's loss to the Celtics.
He's been getting consistent minutes lately with modest results, averaging 32.9 minutes, 10.5 points, 5.8 boards, 4.0 assists and 1.0 blocks over the last eight games. In deep leagues, Smith could be worth a short-term add until Cole Aldrich (leg) gets healthy and rejoins the lineup.

Smith played 23 minutes as a starter Thursday against the Rockets and managed to contribute six points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal during his time on the court.
Smith has moved in and out of the Knicks' starting five this season as coach Derek Fisher continually switches up his lineup on a weekly, and often daily, basis. This makes it hard to put stock in Smith who is averaging just 18.1 minutes per game over all 39 games at this point in the 2014-15 campaign. Unless he's given more minutes on a steady basis, the 28-year-old only remains an option for the very deepest of formats.

Smith will start Thursday's game against the Rockets.
Smith and Quincy Acy have been taking turns starting next to Cole Aldrich, but regardless of which player starts, Acy has the higher ceiling on a nightly basis, as Smith has fallen shy of 25 minutes in five consecutive games.

Smith scored 10 points (4-11 FG, 2-2 FT) to go along with five rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes Monday against the Grizzlies.
Smith moved back into the starting lineup Monday, but still only played 22 minutes. He has had some solid performances this season, but his playing time has been too inconsistent to really take his fantasy value to the next level.

Smith got the start on Sunday, as Stoudemire and Dalembert sat out of this game with injuries. He finished with six points (2-7 FG, 2-2 FT) seven rebounds, and four assists in 28 minutes.
Smith is too inconsistent to really be considered an option in fantasy, although if you're scraping the bottom of the barrel he's widely available. With New York's normal starters being somewhat injury-prone Smith will get windows for bigger minutes throughout the season.

Smith scored 12 points (4-9 FG, 4-4 FT) with five rebounds, two assists and one steal during Saturday's loss to the Kings.
Smith drew the start with Quincy Acy serving his one game suspension for brawling with John Wall on Thursday. He played 30 minutes on Saturday but is likely to fall back into the 17-24 minute range once again with Acy back in action. Smith is likely only on the radar in deep leagues.

Smith scored 16 points (6-11 FG, 4-4 FT) with three rebounds in 21 minutes in the loss to the Raptors on Sunday.
Smith received extra playing time because Samuel Dalembert was ejected. He came one point shy of his season high and can knock down a mid-range jumper when left open. Smith could be a decent add in deeper leagues with the Knicks being destroyed by injuries.

Smith started and scored four points (2-8 FG), grabbed five rebounds, and one steal in 28 minutes against the Jazz Friday.
Smith was Friday's winner of the latest round of "musical chairs" that Knicks have been playing with their starters. The Knicks have used different starting lineups for each of their past three games. The game is mostly academic, however, since the minutes distribution remains much more stable. For his part, Smith typically plays between 19 and 24 minutes, and moving to the starting lineup did not change that. He is a pretty inefficient shooter for his position, but he can provide an irregular source of points, rebounds, and assists for desperate deep league players.
Fri Nov 14 201418:16Smith will start at power forward Friday against Jazz
Smith will start at power forward Friday against Jazz.
Smith has rotated in and out of the starting lineup whenever coach Derek Fisher decides he wants to go with a big or small lineup. He wants to go big against the Jazz, so Smith will get the call. Amare Stoudemire is also sitting out, so he'll most likely be relied upon for even more minutes.
Sat Nov 8 201419:15Smith will move to bench Saturday
Smith will move to the bench Saturday, Newsday reports.
The Knicks are going with a small lineup Saturday against the Hawks and Smith is the unfortunate odd man out.
Wed Nov 5 201418:22Smith will start at power forward Wednesday against Detroit
Smith will start at power forward Wednesday against Detroit, the Wall Street Journal's Chris Herring reports.
Amar'e Stoudemire will come off the bench, as coach Derek Fisher wanted a bigger front line to matchup with the Pistons' big men. Smith's fantasy value probably won't see more than a slight bump, as Stoudemire still figures to be a prominent factor off the bench.

Smith has a good chance to open the season as the Knicks' starting power forward.
When asked if a lineup involving Smith at the four and Samuel Dalembert at the five would be his lineup for opening night, coach Derek Fisher said, "It would be safe to say that would be pretty close to it." Smith has a solid chance of being the best fantasy option of the Knicks' big men, so if he starts out with a big role, he needs to be considered in standard leagues.
Tue Jul 15 201420:05Jason Smith signs one-year deal for $3.3 mil
Jason Smith will sign with the Knicks on a one-year, $3.3 million deal.
He basically had no chance to sign with the Pelicans, especially after the Omer Asik trade. The Knicks have seen Cole Aldrich play well this summer, so those two will likely compete for minutes behind Samuel Dalembert.

Tue Jul 15 201420:02Knicks sign Jason Smith on one-year deal
The Knicks signed free agent PF/C Jason Smith (knee) on a one-year deal worth $3.3 million.
Smith's 2013-14 season ended with knee surgery in January, and injuries have been an unfortunate trend throughout his brief NBA career -- he's missed an average of 24.2 games over six seasons. When healthy he has a sweet 18-foot jumper and does a solid job rebounding and blocking shots, so he should fill a valuable role off New York's bench behind Samuel Dalembert and Amare Stoudemire.

Fri Jun 20 201411:29Monty doesn't update Jason Smith
Coach Monty Williams did not update the status of Jason Smith (knee) in his recent interview.
Williams updated just about every other injured player on his team, so this does kind of speak volumes. General manager Dell Demps also declined to say if the team would bring Smith back in an interview last month. Basically, it sounds like the Pelicans aren't bringing the unrestricted free agent back and have more confidence in Jeff Withey.

Fri May 2 201411:24Pelicans won't say they want Smith back
Pelican GM Dell Demps declined to say if he wants free agent PF/C Jason Smith back.
Smith appeared in 31 games this season, averaging 9.7 points and 5.8 rebounds before going down with a knee injury. The No. 20 overall pick back in 2007 will not be a priority free agent, so the Pelicans can take their time. Smith has battled knee, concussion, ankle and hip issues since joining the New Orleans in 2010.

Mon Feb 3 201419:13Jason Smith (knee) out for the season
Jason Smith (knee) is out for the rest of the season after his knee surgery.
He had surgery last week on Jan. 29 on his right knee to remove loose bodies, but he's not going to be making it back to the lineup. The Pelicans are a mess at center right now and fantasy owners in most formats shouldn't be paying much attention to guys like Greg Stiemsma, Jeff Withey and Alexis Ajinca.

Wed Jan 29 201415:13Jason Smith has knee surgery on Wednesday
Jason Smith had successful surgery on his right knee on Wednesday.
The procedure removed loose bodies from his knee and Smith does not have a timetable to return. He's had a tough season due to multiple injuries and has been out of the lineup since Jan. 18. The Pelicans have been a mess with their frontcourt players next Anthony Davis and most fantasy owners shouldn't be looking to add Jeff Withey, Greg Stiemsma or Alexis Ajinca.

Sun Jan 19 201411:58Jason Smith (knee) to have surgery Wednesday
Jason Smith (knee) is set to have surgery to remove some loose cartilage in his right knee on Wednesday.
"A piece of cartilage kind of chipped off." Smith said. "They said if I tried to [play] through it, it could lock the knee up or tear some other stuff up." Smith is currently out indefinitely and the injuries keep mounting for a depleted Pelicans squad. Smith was averaging 26 minutes per game, and that time will now be dispersed to guys like Al-Farouq Aminu, Alexis Ajinca, Jeff Withey and Greg Stiemsma. Aminu is probably the most attractive pickup out of that group.

Sat Jan 18 201415:07Jason Smith out indefinitely w/ knee damage
Jason Smith suffered cartilage damage to his right knee and he's out indefinitely, the Pelicans announced on Saturday.
An MRI revealed the injury and the hits just keep coming for New Orleans. With Ryan Anderson (herniated disc) already on the shelf, the Pelicans need Anthony Davis to stay healthy while guys like Al-Farouq Aminu, Alexis Ajinca and Greg Stiemsma provide some frontcourt support. Ajinca is worth a look in deeper leagues, and Aminu's minutes may increase, but there are no clear-cut winners in this unfortunate scenario.
