Capuano lasted just three innings in his season debut, allowing four runs in Sunday's loss to the Royals.

It wasn't a great outing for Capuano as he struggled to get deep into the game, allowing the first four batters of the fourth inning to reach base before being replaced by Esmil Rogers. With two scheduled off days this week, Capuano will get some extra time off in between starts as he'll look to get back on track next Sunday against the Rangers.

Capuano (quadriceps) was officially activated from the 15-day DL on Sunday in advance of his start against the Royals.

The Yankees optioned reliever Bryan Mitchell to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room for Capuano, who will be making his season debut for the Yankees. The 36-year-old covered 10.2 innings across his two rehab starts at Triple-A, striking out seven batters and posting a 2.53 ERA. He'll likely stick around as the Yankees' fifth starter until Masahiro Tanaka (forearm) or Chase Whitley (elbow) returns from the DL.

Capuano worked his way up to 90 pitches in his last rehab start, and while manager Joe Girardi mentioned that he may have one more start in the minors before being activated, the injury to Chase Whitley (elbow) opened up a spot in the rotation. He pitched well in his rehab starts, but the lefty may have to succeed in the majors as well to keep his spot in the rotation once Ivan Nova (elbow) returns.

Capuano has already been stretched out to 75 pitches in his previous start, so it appears this could be his final rehab game before rejoining the big league rotation. Manager Joe Girardi indicated the team would check how Capuano feels after the start, but barring any issues, it looks as though his next start after Tuesday will come in the majors.

Capuano began his rehab assignment with High-A Tampa, tossing four scoreless innings with four strikeouts and will now ramp up the workload. If all goes well in Thursday's start as well as his next one after that, it appears Capuano could be on track to rejoin the big league club at some point in mid-May.

Capuano has been throwing in extended spring games and is slated to throw four innings or 60 pitches Saturday. Manager Joe Girardi indicated that the lefty may only need three minor league rehab starts before rejoining the big league club, so it's possible Capuano can return mid-to-late May and slot into the open rotation spot created by the injury to Masahiro Tanaka.

Capuano exited immediately following the play, but it's unclear exactly what injury he suffered. He's slated as the Yankees' fifth starter heading into the season, but an injury could change things. He should be considered day-to-day for now, but the team should release more information on his injury at some point in the near future.

Capuano will enter spring training with a chance to earn a spot in the starting rotation.

Capuano made the start in all 12 of his appearances with the Yankees last season after serving as a long reliever with the Red Sox in the first half of 2014, and he'll be given a chance to reprise that role in the starting rotation in 2015. The club's top four pitchers appear to be set, so Capuano will likely have to compete with Adam Warren and Esmil Rogers for the fifth spot. With Ivan Nova set to return from Tommy John surgery in May or June, it could just be a temporary assignment before getting pushed back to the bullpen upon Nova's return.

Capuano agreed to a one-year contract with the Yankees on Tuesday.

Capuano will return to New York after making 12 starts for the Yankees last season. As things stand, he will have a chance to open the season in the starting rotation, though he could eventually be forced to secure a spot during spring training.

Capuano struck out five and held the Red Sox to an unearned run on four hits over 6.2 innings to earn his third win of the season.

The outing lowered his season ERA to 4.35, which has been compiled in 40 appearances with the Red Sox and Yankees. Most likely, Capuano's 2015 role will put him in the bullpen as a long reliever, where he will offer the flexibility to make spot starts if needed.

Capuano did not record a decision Monday against the Rays as he allowed two hits and four walks to go along with four strikeouts in six scoreless innings.

The Yankees offense was held without a run yet again to waste a solid start from Capuano. The Yankees offense has been terrible this season, so Capuano might struggle to earn wins down the stretch regardless of how he performs.

Capuano only recorded one out in his start Wednesday, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks before getting pulled against the Rays.

It was, quite clearly, the shortest start of Capuano's career, and it demonstrates the lack of security that comes with using him in shallower fantasy leagues. He hasn't made it out of the seventh inning this year, and with a 4.90 ERA, he should only be used in somewhat desperate circumstances. He'll have a chance to redeem himself against this same Rays team in Tampa Bay on Monday.

Capuano lasted just 4.1 innings against Boston on Thursday, allowing four runs and six hits. He struck out two batters.

Capuano gave up three homers, including a pair of long balls to David Ortiz, and was ultimately chased from the game after tossing just 76 pitches. Before Thursday's mediocre outing, the veteran lefty had been respectable in seven starts for the Yankees, posting a 4.01 ERA in 42.2 innings. He'll look to get on track in his next start, taking on Tampa Bay at home.
