Miami Marlins starting pitcher Jarred Cosart will visit a neurologist Monday for further testing after his vertigo symptoms returned over the weekend, according to MLB.com. Cosart has not pitched for the Marlins since July 4 and was working his way back with Triple-A New Orleans before a recurrence of his symptoms in his latest start Friday. "It gets pretty warm in New Orleans this time of year, so you hope it was just the dehydration and nothing connected to the vertigo," Marlins manager Dan Jennings said. "The vertigo is a very serious illness and it takes some time. If that is what it is you want to know what's causing it and how much down time do you need. I'm sure that will be part of the evaluation that he has. We were counting on him to be in that five-man rotation, and certainly towards the top of it. Unfortunately it's not been a good season for him due to injuries." A decision on Cosart's immediate future will be made following his appointment, but at this point it looks as though he is poised for a longer stay on the disabled list than originally expected.

Cosart will have additional tests performed to determine the cause of the dizziness that ended his start prematurely Friday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Cosart was removed after 1.1 innings at Triple-A New Orleans on Friday with what was initially deemed a recurrence of vertigo, but manager Dan Jennings said that the right-hander may have suffered from dehydration yet again. Until the Marlins can correct the concern, Cosart's next start in the majors is up in the air.

Cosart was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans following Saturday's game against the Cubs.
Cosart actually made the start for the Marlins on Saturday but had a horrendous outing of just 1.2 innings where he allowed four hits, seven earned runs, and two home runs, earning his fourth loss of the season. In a related roster move Michael Morse will be reinstated off the 15-day DL on Sunday.

Cosart will start Saturday's game against the Cubs after a brief relegation to the bullpen, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
In his only appearance since returning from the disabled list (vertigo), Cosart allowed two runs on six hits and struck out three batters while tossing four innings out of the bullpen on June 26. He'll oppose veteran lefty Clayton Richard in Saturday's matchup just one day after the Cubs acquire Richard from the Pirates.

Cosart allowed two runs on six hits, walking three and striking out three over four innings of relief work Friday night.
Just off the disabled list after missing a month with vertigo-like symptoms, he tossed 76 pitches (45 for strikes) as he tries to pitch himself back into shape so he can hope to reclaim a spot in the rotation. Starter Justin Nicolino was roughed up and may be headed back to the minors so he could be taking a regular turn before long, albeit Tom Koehler is expected back this weekend, and ace Jose Fernandez is hoping to return late next week which could crowd the Miami mound corps.

Cosart (vertigo) was activated from the 15-day disabled list on Thursday.
Cosart will rejoin the Marlins after a bout with vertigo like symptoms sidelined him for over a month. The Miami Marlins activated pitcher Jarred Cosart from the 15-day disabled list Thursday after he recovered from vertigo, according to the team's official web site. Cosart began the season in the rotation, posting a 4.08 earned-run average in seven games, and while he views himself as a starting pitcher, he said he will do whatever he can to help the team win. "Obviously I started off a little slow and then got something I couldn't control with the vertigo," Cosart said. "But I feel great. I feel ready to go. Like I said, I feel like I'm a starting pitcher. I know there's a business side of it. There has to be moves made. People are going to be unhappy. But I'm happy to be back in the big leagues and hopefully help us win games and get us on a playoff push we were on when I got here last year." The Marlins designated pitcher Vin Mazzaro for assignment in a corresponding move.

Cosart (head) struggled with command during his Sunday rehab outing with Double-A Jacksonville, walking six batters over five innings of one-run ball.
On the plus side, Cosart ramped his pitch count up to 104 on the day while allowing three hits and one run with six strikeouts. Of course, only 54 of those 104 pitches were strikes, resulting in the six free passes. Despite the wildness, it seems likely that Cosart will make his next start with the big cub, potentially during this weekend's upcoming series with the Dodgers.

Cosart (head) had his scheduled rehab start with Triple-A New Orleans postponed due to rain Tuesday, the Miami Herald reports.
A nasty storm in Texas washed out the game and the Marlins turned their focus getting the rehabbing starter out of the state ahead of potential weather-related travel issues. It had been expected that this rehab start would be Cosart's last hurdle before returning to the majors, but that plan is a little less clear at this point.

Cosart (head) will make a rehab start for Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, the Miami Herald reports.
Tuesday's start will likely be the last of Cosart's rehab assignment, putting him on track to replace Jose Urena in the rotation for next Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. With Jose Fernandez (elbow) and Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) both likely to rejoin the rotation at some point in late June or July, Cosart may need to pitch well to hold on to his spot.

Cosart (vertigo) tossed 81 pitches over five innings at an extended spring training game Saturday, the Associated Press reports.
Cosart initially appeared to be scheduled for a rehab start at Triple-A New Orleans over the weekend, but the Marlins apparently scrapped that plan and decided to evaluate him in a more controlled environment. With the right-hander faring well during Saturday's session, he could be ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment later this week.

Cosart (vertigo) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Triple-A New Orleans on Saturday, the Miami Herald reports.
After leaving his May 13 start with hamstring soreness, Cosart landed on the disabled list with vertigo. He has shown good progress in bullpen sessions and an extended spring appearance early this week and will now move onto an official rehab assignment. At the moment it is unclear how many minor league outings the team will have Cosart make, but the right-hander is clearly making progress towards a mid-June return.

Cosart (vertigo) is scheduled to pitch an extended spring training game Monday if he is able to complete throwing sessions on Wednesday and Friday without incident, MLB.com reports.
The schedule would make Cosart an option to return to the Marlins rotation next weekend if everything goes well, meaning that the team will need to squeak through another turn in the rotation without him. Cosart was off to a middling start to the season prior to landing on the DL, posting a 4.058 ERA but with a 1.16 WHIP over 39.2 innings in seven starts.
Mon May 25 201514:52Cosart (vertigo) will throw bullpen session Tuesday
Cosart (vertigo) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, MLB.com reports.
Cosart was placed on the DL with vertigo retroactive to May 14, but could be sent on a short rehab assignment before re-entering the rotation. He played catch during each of the past three days and if the bullpen session goes smoothly, Cosart will be on his way back in short order. Injuries to Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) and Mat Latos (knee) has left the team searching for depth in the rotation.
Mon May 18 201522:53Jarred Cosart: Placed On 15-Day DL
Cosart was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday.
Cosart exited his start last Wednesday with a hamstring issue, but threw a bullpen session Saturday to determine his availability moving forward. Apparently the session didn't go as well as he'd hoped, as he'll now head the disabled list. Tom Koehler will make his scheduled to start Tuesday in his scheduled turn, while the Marlins will make another move to fill out the remainder of the 25-man roster.

Cosart (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Saturday morning before the team determines his availability for his next start, the Miami Herald reports.
The right-hander left his previous start with some tightness in his hamstring that the team has since downplayed. He'll test things out Saturday in the hopes of making his next scheduled start Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The could have some added flexibility with Cosart's schedule as they also have Henderson Alvarez (shoulder) nearing a return.
