"The vertigo is a very serious illness and it takes some time. If that is what it is you want to know what's causing it and how much down time do you need. I'm sure that will be part of the evaluation that he has. We were counting on him to be in that five-man rotation, and certainly towards the top of it. Unfortunately it's not been a good season for him due to injuries." A decision on Cosart's immediate future will be made following his appointment, but at this point it looks as though he is poised for a longer stay on the disabled list than originally expected.

Cosart will have additional tests performed to determine the cause of the dizziness that ended his start prematurely Friday, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Cosart was removed after 1.1 innings at Triple-A New Orleans on Friday with what was initially deemed a recurrence of vertigo, but manager Dan Jennings said that the right-hander may have suffered from dehydration yet again. Until the Marlins can correct the concern, Cosart's next start in the majors is up in the air.

Cosart was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans following Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Cosart actually made the start for the Marlins on Saturday but had a horrendous outing of just 1.2 innings where he allowed four hits, seven earned runs, and two home runs, earning his fourth loss of the season. In a related roster move Michael Morse will be reinstated off the 15-day DL on Sunday.
