Sat Aug 20 201122:28Lavarnway drives in run in Red Sox loss
Ryan Lavarnway went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Boston's loss to the Royals on Saturday night.
Lavarnway was promoted from the minor leagues on Thursday after posting a .293/.372/.559 batting line with 30 home runs and 85 RBI between stints at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. He's not going to enjoy that kind of success in "the show," but he has a major league-ready bat and should rake when the Red Sox play him.

Thu Aug 18 201115:06Red Sox call up Ryan Lavarnway
Red Sox purchased the contract of C-DH Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Lavarnway will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh in his major league debut Thursday night against the Royals. The 24-year-old has had a monster season in the minor leagues, batting .293/.372/.559 with 30 homers and 85 RBI between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket. He should see plenty of playing time while David Ortiz (heel) is sidelined, so go ahead and pick him up in AL-only formats.

Thu Aug 18 201114:05Red Sox to call up Ryan Lavarnway
The Red Sox are expected to promote catcher/designated hitter Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket.
He is expected to take the place of Kevin Youkilis, who will be placed on the disabled list with a back injury. Lavarnway, 24, is batting .293/.372/.559 with 30 homers, 85 RBI and a .931 OPS between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket this season. He has made some strides behind the plate, but Terry Francona could opt to use him at DH while David Ortiz is sidelined. With his power potential at the catcher position, he's worth an immediate add in AL-only formats.

Wed Aug 17 201122:29Ryan Lavarnway on his way up
Red Sox catching prospect Ryan Lavarnway was lifted for a pinch-hitter during Wednesday's game for Triple-A Pawtucket, leading to speculation that he could be called up.
Alex Speier of WEEI.com reported earlier that the Red Sox would consider calling Lavarnway up if someone went on the disabled list, so it's possible he could be on his way up. David Ortiz is a candidate for the DL. Lavarnway entered Wednesday's game batting .294/.373/.561 with 30 homers and 85 RBI in 415 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A.

Fri Aug 12 201108:15Sox may recall Lavarnway
Triple-A Catcher Ryan Lavarnway could be a candidate to be recalled by the Red Sox once rosters are expanded next month.
Lavarnway, 24, has torn up the International League this season, batting .332/.408/.658 to go along with 15 home runs and 46 RBI in just 49 games. Meanwhile, Jason Varitek has hit just .154/.214/.308 for the Red Sox since the All-Star break. Lavarnway will not be worth a look in AL-only leagues if he gets the call, however.

Sat Apr 17 201014:04Red Sox prospect Lavarnway knocks in five
Single-A Salem's Ryan Lavarnway had a second straight five-RBI game while going 3-for-5 with a homer and a double on Friday.
The Yale product homered twice Thursday, and he's off to a .433/.452/.900 start in 30 at-bats. The Red Sox have a bunch of fringe catching prospects, and Lavarnway has the most intriguing bat of the group. Unfortunately, he's also probably the roughest defensively.
