Aaron Cook (finger, shoulder) is expected to live batting practice Wednesday when the Rockies are in Arizona.
Cook has received positive reviews for his recent bullpen sessions in extended spring training. The veteran right-hander still has to get cleared for a minor league rehab assignment, so it's unlikely that he returns before the end of May.

Thu Mar 31 201120:50Cook (finger) could begin throwing this week
Aaron Cook (finger) could be cleared to start throwing this week.
Cook, who was placed on the disabled list Thursday, accidentally shut his right ring finger in a door earlier this month. "The main thing is they want to make sure that bone is healed so the bone will stay together," said Cook. "It doesn't hurt, so that's a good sign." Cook was already behind before the finger injury because he was dealing with shoulder soreness, so he'll need to start from scratch once he's ready to throw. We probably won't see him until mid-May or perhaps later.

Fri Mar 11 201119:05Aaron Cook out a month with broken finger
Aaron Cook will miss at least a month after breaking a finger on his pitching hand as a result of shutting it in a door.
It's certainly been a forgettable spring for the right-hander, as Cook has yet to throw off a mound since experiencing shoulder soreness early in camp. He already wasn't expected to be ready by the start of the season, and now this seals the deal. The best he can probably hope for is a return by the end of April, but even that might be pushing it. Esmil Rogers is the favorite for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, with Clayton Mortensen, John Maine and Greg Reynolds potentially in the mix, as well.

Aaron Cook (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off a mound Wednesday in Rockies camp.
It was a light reintroduction to the mound for Cook, who is still fighting through soreness in his throwing shoulder. He's expected to throw a more intense bullpen session within the next couple of days. The Rockies aren't expecting him to be ready for Opening Day.

Mon Mar 7 201118:41Aaron Cook (shoulder) throws Monday
Aaron Cook (shoulder) threw for 10 minutes Monday from a distance of 90 feet.
The throwing session went "outstanding," according to a team trainer. Cook is expected to long-toss on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined for the early part of the spring scheduled due to soreness in his throwing shoulder, but it sounds like he's making incremental progress. He'll need to keep it up in order to avoid starting the season on the disabled list.

Mon Mar 7 201111:46Cook refutes SI report, says he was in shape
Aaron Cook has refuted a weekend report from SI.com's Jon Heyman that he was not in throwing shape upon his arrival to spring training this year.
"You know me and what I am about," Cook told Troy Renck of the Denver Post. "It was during my second bullpen session down here when my shoulder started hurting." Either way, it's doubtful that he will find enough time to get stretched out for the start of the regular season. Look for the right-hander to be placed on the 15-day disabled list once the Rockies break north.

Aaron Cook (Shoulder) will play catch Sunday and said he thinks he'll be able to throw off a mound soon.
Cook doesn't have any structural damage in his shoulder, but he hasn't been able to shake the soreness. Evidently he's feeling better, though. Cook said he intends to get in enough work to be ready for a spot in the rotation to start the year, but we'll need to start seeing some real progress before we believe him.

Thu Mar 3 201115:08Cook (shoulder) to meet with Rockies' doctor
Aaron Cook (shoulder) plans to meet with Rockies medical director Dr. Thomas Noonan on Friday.
Cook has been bothered by a sore right shoulder during camp, so this is hardly good news. The veteran right-hander is quickly falling behind in his preparation for the new season. Felipe Paulino could have the inside track on a rotation spot if he begins the year on the disabled list.

Tue Mar 1 201118:39Cook plays light catch Tuesday
Aaron Cook (shoulder) played light catch Tuesday.
Cook, who recently had his scheduled start Saturday pushed back, will have to throw a bullpen or two and a live batting practice session before pitching in a game, so obviously he's still got some work to do. The Rockies have been worried about the strength of his shoulder and have him doing exercises in order to get it back. Esmil Rogers is expected to start Saturday in Cook's place.

Tue Mar 1 201114:51Aaron Cook won't make Saturday appearance
Aaron Cook (shoulder) will not make his scheduled exhibition game appearance Saturday.
The Rockies still have concerns about the strength of Cook's right shoulder and have asked that he continues doing strengthening exercises for most of this week before stepping back on a mound. He still has plenty of time to get right, but the clock is most definitely ticking.

Good news. Cook skipped a throwing session on Sunday due to tightness in his throwing shoulder and dealt with a stomach bug on Monday, but it looks like he's closer to getting back on the mound. He should throw a bullpen session in the next few days.

Mon Feb 21 201123:26Cook (shoulder) hopes to play catch Tuesday
Aaron Cook (shoulder) hopes to play catch on Tuesday.
After skipping a throwing session on Sunday due to tightness in his throwing shoulder, Cook rested his throwing arm and dealt with a stomach bug on Monday. "It's just normal inflammation in the shoulder," said Cook. "It varies. This time it's early [in camp]. It's usually a little later. It's just something that came up, and we're going to take care of it." This probably isn't anything to worry about, but we hope this isn't a sign of things to come.
