Almonte went 1-for-4 with a two- run home run in Sunday's game against the Twins.

The 26-year-old's career as an Indian is off to a flying start, as he has gone 5-for-9 with two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored in just two games since taking over in the outfield. Almonte figures to see regular playing time for the rest of the season and while these numbers are obviously unsustainable, he could be worth a speculative add.

Almonte collected four hits, scored three runs and drove in two in his first appearance for the Indians on Saturday.

Almonte figures to see regular time in center field the rest of the way after the team dealt away Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher, David Murphy and Brandon Moss in recent weeks. Almonte hit .275 with four homers and 11 steals in 61 games at Triple-A El Paso before coming over to the Indians in a trade at the deadline.

Almonte was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

Almonte will jump straight from the minors to the major league starting lineup, per MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. In two games with Columbus, he was 2-for-8 with a walk and a triple.

Almonte was optioned to Triple-A Columbus following his acquisition by the Indians on Friday, MLB.com reports.

The Padres had previously been deploying Almonte as a reserve outfielder with the major-league club, but it looks like the Indians prefer that he pick up everyday at-bats in the minors. Almonte may need an injury to occur in the Tribe's outfielder before he makes the trek back to the big leagues.

Almonte split his time between Triple-A El Paso and San Diego this season, and has served mostly as a bench outfielder with the Padres. However, he did see action in 31 games for the Padres, posting a paltry .204/.271/.259 batting line with noe home runs, four RBI and six runs scored. If he remains on the Indians roster, the 26-year-old outfielder will likely serve in a similar role with his new club.

Almonte has been called up from Triple-A El Paso.

Almonte will take the spot of Will Middlebrooks, who was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday morning. It will be the second major league stint of the season for Almonte, who was previously recalled on May 9 and remained with the Padres until June 7. During that span, Almonte hit .186 (8-for-43) with four RBI and 16 strikeouts in 23 games.

Almonte was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday to make room for the returning Melvin Upton, Jr.

Almonte did little to impress during his month-long tenure with the Padres, posting a .188/.255/.233 slash line across 43 at bats. The 25-year-old will continue to provide organizational depth in the outfield and could be an option again for the big club later this season.

Almonte will be demoted to Triple-A El Paso prior to Monday's series opener against the Braves, MLB.com's Corey Brock reports.

Melvin Upton Jr. (foot) is slated to come off the DL on Monday, which would have left the Padres with two crowded of an outfield for Almonte to stick around. Almonte had been seeing scarce duty as it is, logging only six at-bats in his previous eight games.
