"As exciting as (Tuesday night) was, a lot of times a player has to pay the price for it," manager Terry Francona said. "We didn't want to send Abe down, but we have to protect our arms."

Chisenhall suffered a sprained right shoulder after crashing into a wall during a spring-training game on March 24.Chisenhall batted .286 with eight homers and 57 RBIs last season while helping the Indians reach the World Series.Naquin batted .235 in six games before being sent down. He hit .296 with 14 homers and 43 RBIs last season.Cleveland opted to keep outfielder Abraham Almonte (.250 in eight games) over Naquin.

Almonte was suspended for the first 80 games of 2016, but he got 2017 off to a good start getting on base three times and scoring once from the No. 9 spot in the batting order. He was just trying to do his part Monday. "We have a great team," he said. "Every one of those players plays hard and is pushing pitch by pitch. Every time you got a team like that, you got a chance to come back."

"I don't think he's going to be (traveling)," manager Terry Francona said. "I don't have concrete evidence." He gave the Indians another switch-hitter in the lineup against Detroit. He is less likely to start in Kansas City but would be available to pinch-hit in a key spot.
