Grady Sizemore (back, knee) could begin a minor league rehab assignment in two weeks.
Progress has been hard to come by for Sizemore this season, but he has begun to run on the field in recent days. More setbacks are possible, but he's aiming to finally join the Indians in September. Those in fantasy leagues shouldn't count on him.

Fri Aug 3 201219:19Grady Sizemore progressing, runs in outfield
According to Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff, Grady Sizemore (back, knee) has run on two different occasions in the outfield at Progressive Field this week.
Sizemore has experienced numerous setbacks while trying to return from a plethora of injuries, but he still hasn't given up hope on playing this season. As long as he doesn't experience a problem while running on natural surfaces, he could soon progress to participating in baseball activities. He's still very unlikely to make a fantasy impact this season, even if he does return to the field.

Tue Jul 24 201212:42Grady Sizemore hopes to return this season
Grady Sizemore (back, knee) hasn't given up hope of returning this season.
Sizemore has been swinging the bat and doing other baseball-related activities without restrictions, but he continues to have trouble running on natural surfaces. "The last four months have been frustrating," said Sizemore. "Each day I'm not out there, it's more and more frustrating. I just haven't been able to progress to the next level. It's been up and down. We've had to back it off, then slowly ramp up again." The Indians surprised some by re-signing Sizemore to a one-year, $5 million contract over the winter, but the 29-year-old looks like a sunk cost at the moment.

Grady Sizemore (back, knee) will attempt to resume running this week.
He's been shut down from running since late May after experiencing soreness in his surgically-repaired back and right knee. It would be foolish to put any sort of timetable on Sizemore at this point, but the Indians remain hopeful that he'll be able to contribute in the second half.

Tue Jun 26 201211:40Sizemore (knee, back) not yet running
Grady Sizemore (back, knee) has been hitting and throwing, but he still hasn't resumed running.
Sizemore's rehab hit a bit of a snag a few weeks ago when he suffered a setback in his recovery from back and knee surgery. He'll need to run the bases before being cleared to go out on a rehab assignment, but it's not clear when he'll be ready to do that. The Indians remain optimistic that he'll be able to play at some point this season, but his return doesn't sound imminent.

Indians general manager Chris Antonetti said he's "still optimistic that Grady will be able to contribute this year," but he's already been ruled out for the first half and it's totally up in the air as to when he'll return. The Tribe will continue to roll with a combination of Johnny Damon and Shelley Duncan in left field.

Grady Sizemore (back) threw long toss and did some running and agility work Tuesday at Progressive Field.
Sizemore began dry-swinging over the weekend and is expected to begin taking soft tosses by the middle of next week. Barring any setbacks with his surgically-repaired back, he could join the Indians' lineup at some point in June. We wouldn't rely on him in fantasy leagues, though.

Wed Apr 18 201221:03Sizemore cleared for baseball activities
Grady Sizemore (back) has been cleared to begin baseball activities next week.
Good to hear, as things had been pretty quiet on the Sizemore front. He underwent a micro discectomy procedure on his lower back on March 1 and is still obviously a long ways away from a return, but it's nice that the wheels are finally in motion. He figures to have a lengthy rehab assignment that won't be begin for weeks, putting his return some time in June, at the earliest.

Thu Mar 1 201216:00Grady Sizemore (back surgery) out 8-12 weeks
Grady Sizemore underwent a micro discectomy procedure on his lower back Thursday and will be sidelined for 8-12 weeks.
And the hits keep on coming. Sizemore injured the back last month while rehabbing from knee surgery. Thursday's procedure could keep him sidelined through the first two months of the season. The Indians surprised some by re-signing Sizemore to a one-year, $5 million contract this offseason, but the deal is already looking like a bust.

Sat Feb 25 201211:36Back injury to delay Grady Sizemore's rehab
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Grady Sizemore's recent back injury puts the Indians in a holding pattern.
"Thing were going good with the knee. I was in a good spot,'' said Sizemore. ''This puts everything on hold. We said before that we were shooting for Opening Day (while rehabbing). It was a realistic goal." Sizemore added that he tried to push through the back injury, but that it got worse and the Indians made the decision to shut him down. With Sizemore out, Cleveland will move Michael Brantley to center field while giving Felix Pie, Fred Lewis, Aaron Cunningham, and Ryan Spilborghs an opportunity for semi-regular starts.

Fri Feb 24 201215:42Grady Sizemore (back) out for Opening Day
Grady Sizemore is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day after straining his back while fielding grounders in the outfield two weeks ago.
Here we go again. Sizemore was cleared last month to resume baseball activities following offseason knee surgery, and he evidently hurt his back while rehabbing his knee. It's a big blow to the Indians and yet another physical malady to add to Sizemore's laundry list of ailments. While Sizemore is out, the Tribe will likely shift Michael Brantley over to center field while giving Fred Lewis, Felix Pie, Aaron Cunningham, Ryan Spilborghs and others a shot in left field.
