OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Tampa Bay first baseman Brad Miller has been scratched from Monday's game with a facial contusion after hitting a ball that deflected off a protective screen and struck him near his left eye during batting practice.Miller was immediately attended to by a team trainer and there was some light bleeding but nothing significant, according to a Rays spokesman.Tampa Bay didn't announce the change until an hour before the scheduled first pitch.Miller was scheduled to bat leadoff for a fourth consecutive game before he was hurt. INF Christian Arroyo, LHP Matt Krook, OF Denard Span and RHP Stephen Woods were acquired by the Rays from the Giants on Wednesday in exchange for 3B Evan Longoria. Arroyo, who was the Giants' first-round pick in 2013, played in 34 games after making his major league debut in 2017. The 22-year-old has hit .300 over five years in the minors.

3B Christian Arroyo (bruised hand) played his first rehab game with Triple-A Sacramento Saturday -- and promptly got hit by a pitch on the same hand where he got hit for his original injury. He now is expected to miss at least two months because of a broken left middle finger.

3B Christian Arroyo was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento when OF Hunter Pence was activated from the disabled list. In 125 at-bats with the Giants this season, Arroyo is hitting .192 (24 hits) with three homers and 14 RBIs.

3B Christian Arroyo's two-run double with the bases loaded in the top of the 13th inning was the big blow in the Giants' 3-1 win Saturday night. Arroyo has displayed a knack for producing in pressure spots in the first few weeks of his big league career, delivering a three-run double in the ninth inning on May 10 at the New York Mets. He was able to stay back on a 3-2 changeup from Kevin Siegrist and produce the winning hit.

SS Christian Arroyo was among the few bright spots for the Giants during a three-game sweep at Cincinnati. Arroyo hit safely in all three games, including a double on Sunday, one of just four hits collected off Reds starter Scot Feldman. Arroyo homered in the series opener.

It was Arroyo's third homer of the season. The two are friends, both attended Hernando High School in Brooksville, Florida. They are not related, however. "We went to the same high school 18 years apart," said Bronson Arroyo. "We had the same coach. A.J. Pierzynski is from there too. There must be something in the water in that little town.
