Hornets coach Steve Clifford has mentioned Williams as a possible candidate to start at power forward this season, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.
With Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Al Jefferson in line to serve as the team's starting small forward and center, respectively, Williams, Cody Zeller, and rookie first-round pick Frank Kaminsky are expected to vie for the role at power forward. Williams' ability to play either forward spot should allow him to see a decent amount of minutes regardless of what occurs in training camp, but entering the season with a starting role in hand would certainly be a boon to his fantasy value. That said, Williams' value would likely remain confined to deeper formats, as he hasn't averaged more than 10 points per game since 2011-12 and provides marginal contributions in just about every other notable fantasy category.

Williams could see more minutes at small forward this season due to the Hornets' depth in the frontcourt, the Charlotte Oberver reports.
This didn't come from the coach or GM. Hornets beat writer Rick Bonnell is simply taking a stab at how the depth chart could play out for the Hornets this season. Any way you shake the tree, if the Hornets are healthy, Williams will likely play less minutes this season. However, we seem to think that Marvin Williams playing less minutes in the future is a foregone conclusion every season, but he always finds a way to get on the court for a decent amount of minutes, more often limiting the fantasy impact of other players more than actually contributing anything worthwhile himself. The Hornets also have Al Jefferson, Spencer Hawes, Frank Kaminsky, and Cody Zeller in the frontcourt. While Jefferson is the only player definitively ahead of Williams on the depth chart, there are too many mouths to feed, meaning someone's going to be left out when it's time to eat.

Williams played in 78 games for Charlotte in his 10th NBA season, the most for him since 2009-10, but finished with averages of just 7.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 26 minutes.
Despite it being one of Williams' healthiest seasons of his career, it was also one of his least productive. Throughout the course of the season, Williams was always a key piece in the rotation for the Hornets, as his 26 minutes per game were his highest in three years, but he never really made a significant impact when he was on the floor. This has been an ongoing theme for Williams' career, as despite being a former second overall pick, he's never really panned out and lived up to expectation. Now, as he approaches his 11th season in the league, he has fully established himself as nothing more than a role player. The 2015-16 season will be Williams' final year under contract, and it will be his last chance to prove to the league that he deserves another long-term deal.

Williams scored four points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-2 FT) and grabbed three rebounds in 19 minutes as a starter in the blowout loss to Detroit on Sunday.
The Hornets were playing without Al Jefferson (knee), Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (ankle), and Lance Stephenson (toe), so Williams had the opportunity to get playing time. He didn't make much of it and was replaced by Noah Vonleh.

Williams stuffed the stat sheet Friday against the Pacers, posting 10 points, eight rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block in 29 minutes of action.
Williams is averaging 12.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.2 blocks, and 1.8 treys over the last five games. He's seeing some heightened production and is worth a spot in competitive 12-man leagues at this point.

Williams scored 18 points (7-11 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT) with six rebounds, a steal and a block in 29 minutes during Wednesday's win over the Pistons.
He's been relatively productive as he fills in at power forward for Cody Zeller (shoulder), averaging 12.5 points, 6.3 boards, 2.0 threes and 1.3 steals over his last four games. Zeller was able to take part in Wednesday's shootaround, however, so Williams could get bumped back to the bench very soon.

Williams will remain in the starting lineup Monday against Boston.
Williams will continue to start at power forward Monday with Cody Zeller (shoulder) sidelined for the sixth straight game. It sounds as though Zeller was very close to returning, however, so Williams will likely find himself back in a bench role in the near future.

Williams amassed his first double-double this season, scoring 10 points (4-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT) with 11 rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 30 minutes.
Since the All-Star break, Williams is shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc. He hasn't grabbed fewer than four rebounds in the last eight contests, playing power forward without Cody Zeller (shoulder). Zeller plans to return as soon as Friday, reducing Williams' playing time and fantasy value.
Sat Mar 7 201510:06Williams logged 21 minutes off bench against Raptors on Friday
Williams logged 21 minutes off the bench against the Raptors on Friday. He finished with two points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal.
Williams is expected to remain on the bench moving forward after he received a spot start Wednesday against the Nets. As a result, he's only a viable option in the deepest of leagues that can afford his lackluster outings.

Williams will move back to a bench role Friday after getting a situational spot start in Wednesday's game against the Nets.
Williams has averaged an underwhelming 6.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 0.6 blocks, and 0.9 three-pointers in 25 minutes as a reserve this season, and those stats simply don't cut the mustard for daily games or standard leagues.
Wed Mar 4 201523:26Williams got surprise start at power forward on Wednesday, scori...
Williams got a surprise start at power forward on Wednesday, scoring 18 points (5-8 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT) with seven rebounds and a block in 26 minutes during a win over the Nets.
Hornets coach Steve Clifford wanted to use a smaller lineup against the Nets, and Williams seized the opportunity. Cody Zeller will likely return to the starting five on Friday against the Raptors, but Williams at least has given Clifford something to think about.

Williams will wear a protective mask when the Hornets resume play Saturday, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.
Williams had surgery over the All-Star break to reset a cracked nose bone, so he'll don the protective mask until the injury is fully healed. The forward isn't expected to miss any time, though players sometimes face an adjustment period when wearing a mask. In his last five games, Williams averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds while shooting only 35.7 percent from the field.

Williams scored 13 points (4-7 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT) with six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block in 34 minutes Saturday.
Williams is currently outplaying Cody Zeller off the bench and is now averaging 10.5 points, 2.0 three-pointers, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocks in his last two games. He has only played three games since returning from a concussion, but that first game he played just 18 minutes as he got himself back into game shape and as we saw earlier this season, coach Steve Clifford has no hesitation playing Williams starter's minutes off the bench. If you want a big man to hit some threes, Williams is a solid, if unspectacular option.

Williams (concussion) was held scoreless (0-4 FG, 0-3 3Pt) in 18 minutes Monday against the Wizards, but he did contribute seven rebounds, one assist and two blocks.
Williams was able to return to action Monday, but failed to score 10 points or more in his eighth consecutive game played. He provides the Hornets with solid veteran leadership off the bench, but doesn't contribute enough to warrant significant fantasy consideration.
Mon Feb 2 201518:24Williams (concussion) will play Monday against Wizards
Williams (concussion) will play Monday against the Wizards, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.
Williams was officially cleared by the league office after completing the concussion protocol program. He'll play Monday after missing two consecutive games.

Williams (concussion) has not yet received clearance to play Monday versus Washington, Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports.
Williams has missed the last two games after sustaining a concussion last weekend against the Knicks. He's getting close to making his return, however, and there's a chance he could still be cleared prior to Monday's 7:00 PM ET tip. He's reportedly passed all concussion tests and is now awaiting clearance from the league office. In the event he's held out for a third straight game, P.J. Hairston or Noah Vonleh could again see increased minutes.
