Fri Dec 13 201323:47Kosta Koufos plays just 14 minutes
Kosta Koufos played just 14 minutes against the Pelicans on Friday, scoring six points with six boards and two fouls.
He played a seven-minute stints to start the first and second halves. Koufos' minutes have been sporadic due mostly to foul trouble, but it would appear the Grizzlies wanted to get a little more offensive output from their center spot. Jon Leuer has played excellent, efficient ball and this looks like the makings of a timeshare at center until Marc Gasol (knee) gets back.

Thu Dec 5 201323:09Kosta Koufos has another solid game
Kosta Koufos scored a team-high 17 points against the Clippers on Thursday with nine boards and two steals in 30 minutes.
He snapped a four-game streak of grabbing double-digit boards and didn't block any shots for the first time since Nov. 22, but his 17 points tonight were a season high. Koufos has been great and put up second-round value in nine-category leagues last week, so he's worth owning in all leagues while Marc Gasol is out.

Wed Dec 4 201301:01Kosta Koufos double-doubles again
Kosta Koufos double-doubled again in Tuesday's 110-91 win over the Suns with 14 points, 12 boards, two assists, one steal and two blocks in 32 minutes.
He had another double-double on Saturday and not having Zach Randolph around to pick up some rebounding scraps has helped his output. Koufos averaged 8.3 points, 12.3 boards and 2.7 blocks in his previous three starts, so he's well worth a look in all leagues. He shouldn't be this good and his value will take a hit upon Marc Gasol's return, so his owners will want to have another plan at the ready in the future.

Sat Nov 30 201322:34Kosta Koufos fills the stat sheet vs. Nets
Kosta Koufos filled the stat sheet in a loss to the Nets on Saturday with 10 points, 11 boards, two assists, two steals and three blocks in 40 minutes.
It's his best game as a starter, which makes sense since Zach Randolph (toenail) did not play. Kosta averaged 7.5 points, 13.0 boards, 2.5 blocks and 0.5 steals in 33 minutes during his two prior starts, so this type of line is not surprising. Marc Gasol could be back sooner than expected, but Koufos will be a nice guy to own while he's starting.

Wed Nov 27 201322:13Koufos has 13 boards, three blocks vs. Boston
Making his second start at center, Kosta Koufos scored seven points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked three shots vs. the Celtics.
He added one assist and one steal while playing 35 minutes. The Grizzlies absolutely need production from Koufos and Ed Davis (11 points, seven boards, three blocks) until Marc Gasol returns, which won't be for 6-10 weeks. Koufos won't have many eye-catching lines, but he'll do enough to provide steady value in fantasy leagues.

Tue Nov 26 201300:13Koufos nears double-double in loss
Kosta Koufos got his first start after Marc Gasol suffered his knee injury, scoring eight points on 4-of-7 shooting with a season-high 13 rebounds and two blocks in 31 minutes.
This should become a familiar sight for owners and it's good enough to give him a mid-round valuation, as he should be one of the safer pickups from the wire in recent memory.

Sat Nov 23 201313:37Kousta Koufos likely to replace Marc Gasol
Kousta Koufos is the likely starter while Marc Gasol (knee) recovers from an MCL sprain.
Ed Davis is the other option for Memphis. Tellingly, Koufos has paired with Zach Randolph for 78 minutes this season, while Randolph has only played 14 minutes with Ed Davis. Koufos will be a decent source of points, rebounds, and blocks moving forward. In 22 minutes per game with Denver last year, he averaged 8.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks. Denver plays a more up-tempo game than Memphis but Koufos should still get plenty of scoring opportunities and more than 22 minutes per game.

Sat Nov 23 201301:20Kosta Koufos looking at heavy minutes
Kosta Koufos scored six points on 3-of-8 shooting with seven rebounds and no steals or blocks in 28 minutes on Friday, and he could be looking at serious minutes due to Marc Gasol's knee injury.
We'd like to see the Grizzlies issue a statement and see more reporting on Gasol's situation in general, and the most recent item we have is a tweet: "Rumors are swirling that (he) has a Grade 2 MCL tear and will be out 10 weeks" according to team blog 3 Shades of Blue. Along with Z-Bo telling Tim Duncan on the court that Gasol might've tore his MCL, that's all the reporting we've seen but we think it's safe to assume that Gasol's injury is serious enough to add Koufos in all formats. Koufos had late-round value in just 22 mpg last season, and he'll easily exceed that amount of run for however long Gasol is out.

Tue Nov 19 201301:12Koufos puts up random 10 and nine
Kosta Koufos scored 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting with nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and four blocks in just 18 minutes off the bench on Monday.
This is the first time Koufos has gotten any mention around here since October and playing behind one of the most durable big men in the league in Marc Gasol he has a tough road to fantasy value.

Fri Oct 25 201323:55Koufos plays 15 minutes in return
Kosta Koufos played 15 minutes in his return from a leg injury on Friday, scoring five points with six boards.
He was a starter for the Nuggets last year and had some value last season, but that's not the case while Marc Gasol is around. Gasol had 17 points, eight boards and two blocks tonight. The two players are on opposite ends of the fantasy spectrum.

Fri Oct 25 201318:48Kosta Koufos returning on Friday
Kosta Koufos (leg) will play in Friday's preseason finale.
He's been out for nine days with the foot issue and the team has kept him limited in practice. Koufos will backup Marc Gasol, but his upside doesn't look to be high at all considering Gasol's durability and Ed Davis playing better ball this month.

Wed Oct 16 201314:18Kosta Koufos (leg) out at least one week
Kosta Koufos will miss at least one week due to a leg injury.
Details of the injury should be available soon, but with two weeks until the regular season Koufos may still be ready for opening night. He flirted with fantasy value as a starter in Denver last season, but isn't worth drafting as Marc Gasol's backup in Memphis.

Thu Jun 27 201322:57Report: Nuggets trading Koufos for D. Arthur
The Nuggets have traded Kosta Koufos to the Grizzlies for Darrell Arthur and the No. 55 pick, according to the Denver Post.
With JaVale McGee expected to earn a larger role in Denver, and Timofey Mozgov potentially being retained as a restricted FA, it's no surprise the Nuggets jettisoned him for a young PF with a sweet mid-range jumper and an affordable salary ($3.2 million next year). Koufos will serve as Marc Gasol's backup in Memphis, a role ill-suited to reliable fantasy value.

Sat May 25 201309:36Kosta Koufos won't play for Greece this year
Kosta Koufos will not play for the Greek national team this summer.
Koufos will instead spend the summer working with Nuggets coaches trying to improve on his career year. Although he struggled in the postseason, Koufos started all 81 games he played in as part of a platoon with JaVale McGee. It's unclear who will start next season between McGee and Koufos, but it's likely going to be a battle that lasts well into training camp. The 24-year-old Koufos averaged 8.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 22.4 minutes per game.

Wed Apr 24 201315:50Kosta Koufos likely out of lineup on Friday
George Karl says the chances of Kosta Koufos coming out of the starting lineup are "probably enough to bet on it in Vegas."
Koufos had an absolutely miserable Game 2, finished with a minus-18 rating in only 14 minutes. Karl said after the game the Nuggets would "surely" discuss the other possibilities and this sounds like he's not backing down. We already know Kenneth Faried is likely to return to the starting lineup so it's possible the Nuggets could go small with Faried at center or insert JaVale McGee in the middle. Either way, it's clear Denver will have a different look to start Friday's game.

Wed Apr 24 201309:37Kosta Koufos could lose starting C position
Kosta Koufos could be benched for Game 3 after a pathetic Game 2 performance.
Koufos, who was -18 in just 14 minutes, was completely ineffective. George Karl said the coaches would "surely" discuss the other possibilities, meaning JaVale McGee could be in line for a bigger role. It's also possible the Nuggets reevaluate Evan Fournier as a starter as well, but it sounds like figuring out the center spot is the priority.

Wed Apr 3 201323:41Kosta Koufos grabs game-high 13 rebounds
Kosta Koufos grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked one shot in 23 minutes vs. the Jazz.
Scoring isn't Koufos' strong suit anyway, and most owners will live with double-digit rebounds and a swat or two. Backup center JaVale McGee had three boards and two blocks in 18 minutes -- he'll make more than three times as much money as Koufos next year, but it's hard to be optimistic about his role expanding as long as George Karl is Denver's coach.

Tue Mar 19 201323:28Kosta Koufos quiet again in Nuggets win
Kosta Koufos had six points, seven boards and zero blocks on Tuesday, yet the Nuggets were still able to beat the Thunder for their 13th straight win.
Koufos had just four points and nine boards on Monday, and is picking the wrong week to go cold for his new fantasy owners who just picked him up for his four-game week at the start of a playoff run. He has two more games to get it going again and was on fire last week, so there's still hope he turns it around.

Tue Mar 19 201300:57Koufos scores four points with nine rebounds
Kosta Koufos scored four points on 2-of-7 shooting with nine rebounds and one steal in 21 minutes on Monday against the Bulls.
Koufos was in a lot of lineups after last week's surge but tonight George Karl went small and gave JaVale McGee (22 minutes, 12 points, three boards, one steal, one block) some extra time along with the rest of the reserves. Koufos isn't a must-start player, but he's worth consideration right now despite tonight's result.

Sat Mar 16 201300:41Kosta Koufos goes for 18 points, 16 boards
Kosta Koufos was terrific in the paint against the Grizzlies on Friday, shooting 7-of-9 from the field for 18 points with 16 boards and three blocks in 31 minutes.
All seven of his makes came from within four feet of the hoop and he did a great job on the offensive glass with seven boards on that end. Kosta is a little inconsistent since he's in a timeshare with JaVale McGee (four points, three boards and three blocks), but he's worth a long look while he's hot.
