Wed Jul 23 201400:14Whitley blanks TEX over 6, takes no-decision
Chase Whitley held the Rangers scoreless over six innings, but was given a no-decision on Tuesday.
Whitley was excellent on Tuesday, a rare bright spot for the young right-hander. The Rangers scratched out seven hits, but six were singles. Whitley did not issue a walk and struck out six in the process. Whitley still carries an ugly 4.60 ER along with a 1.45 WHIP, and 46/12 K/BB ratio. He'll make his next start against the Blue Jays at home on Sunday.

Mon Jul 14 201400:14Chase Whitley struggles in loss to Orioles
Chase Whitley struggled in a losing effort against the Orioles on Sunday, surrendering three runs on five hits over his 3 2/3 innings of work.
Whitley struck out four and walked two on the evening. He cruised through the first three innings virtually unscathed, but ran into a buzzsaw in the fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer off the bat of Chris Davis. Whitley now sports a troublesome 5.10 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 40/12 K/BB ratio on the season, and could be on his way out of the Yankees rotation as soon as they find an alternative option.

Fri Jul 4 201419:00Chase Whitley lasts just three innings
Chase Whitley yielded four runs and eight hits in three innings versus the Twins on Friday.
Whitley was handed six runs to work with, but he couldn't last long enough to get the win. If it hadn't happened that both homers he gave up led off innings, the day could have turned out a lot worse for his ERA. As is, it's still up to 5.14. Given his status as a career reliever until this year, it's possible he's already wearing down. The Yankees might need to try someone else at the back of their rotation.

Mon Jun 30 201400:03Chase Whitley struggles in loss to Red Sox
Chase Whitley struggled in a losing effort against the Red Sox on Sunday, surrendering five runs on eight hits over four-plus innings of work.
Whitley also issued a pair of walks while striking out one. A three-run homer off the bat of David Ortiz provided the bulk of the damage against him. After posting a 2.56 ERA through his first seven starts, Whitley has now been tagged for 13 runs over 7 1/3 innings in his two starts this week. If he doesn't get back on track against the Twins in Minnesota on Friday, his rotation spot could be in jeopardy.

Mon Jun 23 201422:21Chase Whitley gets hit hard by Blue Jays
Chase Whitley was pounded for eight runs and 11 hits in 3 1/3 innings by the Blue Jays on Monday.
It might have worked to Whitley's disadvantage tonight that he was facing the Blue Jays for the second time in six days. This was his first loss in eight starts this season. He still rates as a pretty good AL-only starter, but we're rather skeptical that he lasts as a mixed-league guy.

Wed Jun 18 201422:23Whitley outduels Buehrle, improves to 3-0
Chase Whitley improved to 3-0, allowing two runs over five innings as the Yankees defeated the Blue Jays 7-3 on Wednesday.
Whitley hasn't been an innings-eater, but has otherwise served well out of the rotation since his insertion in mid-May. The right-hander allowed five hits, walked one, and struck out two against the scary Toronto offense. Whitley will take a 2.56 ERA, a 1.03 WHIP, and a 26/4 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Blue Jays on the road.

Fri Jun 13 201401:09Whitley surrenders 2 runs in win vs. Mariners
Chase Whitley fired 7 2/3 innings of two-run ball Thursday in a 6-3 victory over the Mariners.
Whitley continues to hang on as a surprising fantasy contributor, and he's doing it by not committing unforced errors. He struck out six tonight, but, more importantly, he didn't walk a batter for the fourth consecutive start. The former 15th-round pick, a converted reliever, is leaning on a continually improving slider to keep batters off balance. Whitley improves to 2-0 with a 2.41 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 24/3 K/BB rate in six starts, but three of those outings came in NL parks, and the other three were at Seattle and Kansas, and a home date against a pre-Kendrys Morales Twins. By all means deploy him in AL-only leagues, but there are better options out there in standard mixed leagues. Whitley squares off against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Sat Jun 7 201400:11Whitley goes seven innings for first MLB win
Chase Whitley notched his first major league victory Friday after holding the Royals to two runs over seven innings.
It was also his longest start thus far. Whitley held the light-hitting Royals to five hits and no walks while striking out three batters. Expectations were modest when the 24-year-old was called up from Triple-A last month, but he has an impressive 2.42 ERA and 18/3 K/BB ratio in 26 innings across five starts. He should be owned in all AL-only leagues by now.

Chase Whitley struck out six over five frames of one-run ball but settled for a no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Twins.
He gave up five hits and didn't walk anyone, getting pulled after five with his pitch count up to 83. Whitley was in line for the win entering the ninth inning, but the Twins' offense exploded with a six-run frame. Whitley will go up against the Astros next weekend in his next trip to the hill.

Mon May 26 201421:52Chase Whitley goes five in no-decision
Chase Whitley took a no decision Monday, allowing three runs over five innings in the 6-4 extra-innings win over the Cardinals.
Whitley had allowed just one run in his first five frames, but he exited the sixth with the bases loaded and no one out and watched two inherited runners come home to score. While he's managed a 2.57 ERA over three starts, the rookie has yet to retire a batter in the sixth inning. He'll try to be more efficient this weekend against the Twins.

Wed May 21 201419:07Whitley pitches well in second MLB outing
Chase Whitley tossed 4 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the Yankees' win over the Cubs on Wednesday.
Whitley was left with a no-decision because the Yankees weren't able to secure the victory until the 13th inning. Whitley now has a 1.00 ERA through his first two major league starts, spanning nine frames. He'll continue to take turns in the Yankees' rotation until he proves unworthy of a spot. A date with the Cardinals is next.

Thu May 15 201422:39Whitley blanks the Mets over 4 2/3 innings
Chase Whitley held the Mets scoreless over 4 2/3 innings in his major league debut and took the no-decision as the Yankees emerged victorious by a 1-0 margin on Thursday.
Whitley was rolling through the ballgame, but got into some hot water in the fifth inning, walking the Mets' first two hitters, who were then moved up to second and third base on a Ruben Tejada sacrifice bunt. That's when manager Joe Girardi opted to pull Whitley in favor of reliever Dellin Betances. Overall, Whitley allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out four. Whitley, filling in for the injured CC Sabathia, will face the Cubs at Wrigley Field next.
