Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson isn't sure when David Hernandez will be available to pitch due to a cut on his finger.

Juan Gutierrez, Sam Demel and Aaron Heilman were others that could have been considered for the role, but Hernandez is the best choice. He tossed a scoreless inning Friday, touching 97 MPH on the radar gun a few times. "Just based upon his stuff," Gibson said. "He can overpower people."

Mon Dec 6 201015:24D'Backs net two pitchers for Mark Reynolds
Diamondbacks acquired RHP David Hernandez and RHP Kam Mickolio from the Orioles for 3B Mark Reynolds.
Hernandez, 25, posted a sparkling 1.05 WHIP and 79/18 K/BB ratio over 57 1/3 innings this year at the Triple-A level. He's been used as a starter in the past, but the Diamondbacks seem likely to use him as a long reliever at first. Paired with Mickolio, who has also shown some promise in the minors, the D'Backs got a nice package for the strikeout-prone Reynolds.
Sat Dec 4 201014:16D-backs have interest in David Hernandez
The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro hears that the D-backs "aren't crazy about" the Orioles' Chris Tillman but would be interested in David Hernandez in a deal involving Mark Reynolds.
Piecoro says Arizona views Hernandez as a potential eight-inning man, but it will take more than that to get Reynolds. Josh Bell's name has also been mentioned, and he would be a nice get for the D-backs. The Blue Jays are also interested in Reynolds and have had conversations with Arizona about him as recently as Thursday.
