Chad Billingsley (elbow) will begin throwing breaking balls on Saturday.
Billingsley has already throwing off the mound a bunch of times, but incorporating breaking balls into the mix is a nice step. He's expected to be ready to rejoin the Dodgers around midseason.

Sat Feb 8 201412:13Chad Billingsley (elbow) progressing in rehab
Barry Bloom of MLB.com reports that Chad Billingsley (elbow) has already thrown off a mound 10 times this offseason as he recovers from Tommy John surgery.
They are still taking things cautiously with the 29-year-old right-hander, as he's been held to no more than 85 MPH during the bullpen sessions, but any step in the right direction is progress. With the Dodgers possibly inking Paul Maholm on Saturday, the team can afford to play it safe and not rush Billingsley back, risking re-injury. He's expected to be ready to rejoin the team around mid-season.

Tue Jan 21 201415:46Billingsley (elbow) coming along 'great'
Chad Billingsley's agent, Dave Stewart, said that his client is "coming along great" after Tommy John surgery and could be back in the majors by the start of May.
Billingsley underwent surgery last April after attempting to rehab a torn ulnar collateral ligament. The Dodgers haven't been nearly as precise in a potential timetable for his return, as general manager Ned Colletti has only said that they expect him back at some point during the first half, but May or June sounds like a reasonable guess if he can avoid setbacks.

Mon Dec 9 201317:00Billingsley (elbow) expected back mid-2014
Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Monday that Chad Billingsley (elbow) is expected back before the All-Star break next season.
Billingsley attempted to pitch through a torn ulnar collateral ligament in the early part of 2013, but eventually elected to have Tommy John surgery and a bone spur shaved down in late April. He could provide a nice boost to the Dodgers' rotation once he's ready to go.

Mon Sep 16 201322:07Billingsley four weeks into throwing program
Chad Billingsley (elbow) is four weeks into his throwing program and is "really happy" with how he feels.
Billingsley underwent Tommy John surgery in late April and also had a bone spur shaved down. "My arm probably hasn't felt this good since high school," said Billingsley. "When you're a teenager you pick up a ball and just start throwing, not worrying about having to loosen up. That's how it feels now for the first time since I was in my teens. I'm really happy with how it feels and the way it's going. They have to hold me back, it feels so good."

Tue Apr 30 201319:40Billingsley hopes to be ready 2014 opener
Chad Billingsley (elbow) said Tuesday that his goal is to be ready for Opening Day next season.
Kudos to him for shooting for that goal, but given that he just had Tommy John surgery last Wednesday, being available by the opener is a longshot. Billingsley is under contract for $12 million next season, with a $14 million club option for 2015.

The procedure went as planned. Billingsley is obviously done for the rest of the 2013 season and will likely miss the first couple months of 2014. The Dodgers are paying him an $11 million salary this year and owe him $12 million next year. He carries a $14 million club option (or $3 million buyout) for 2015.

Sun Apr 21 201310:02Billingsley lands on DL with more elbow pain
Dodgers placed RHP Chad Billingsley on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow pain.
The move is retroactive to his last start on April 16, but that probably won't end up mattering. Billingsley has experienced issues with the elbow in the past, and at one point was recommended Tommy John surgery. He might have to consider going under the knife. Stephen Fife was recalled to start Sunday against the Orioles.

Tue Apr 16 201301:47Billingsley posts quality start
Chad Billingsley took a no-decision in Monday's loss to the Padres, giving up three runs over six innings of work.
He surrendered seven hits, walked two and struck out three. Billingsley pitched quite well other than in the second inning, when he served up a two-out, three-run shot to opposing pitcher Eric Stults. The veteran right-hander has only gone six frames in each of his first two outings, but he's posted a quality start both times. He'll take a 3.00 ERA into Baltimore this weekend.

Thu Apr 11 201301:51Chad Billingsley defeats Padres in debut
Chad Billinglsey earned a win in his season debut after allowing one run in six innings Wednesday against the Padres.
Exactly what the Dodgers were hoping for in Billingsley's return. He allowed five hits, walked three and struck out three. Billingsley's arm may yet prove to be a time bomb, but fantasy leaguers can go ahead and play him until there's reason not to.

Wed Apr 10 201317:36Dodgers activate Billingsley from 15-day DL
Dodgers activated RHP Chad Billingsley from the 15-day disabled list.
Billingsley will make his 2013 regular season debut on Wednesday night against the Padres. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a solid 3.55 ERA and 128/45 K/BB ratio in 149 2/3 innings last season, but he is coming back from a partially torn UCL in his elbow and is no sure bet to make a positive fantasy impact in 2013.

Wed Apr 3 201322:45Chad Billingsley to make rehab start Thursday
Chad Billingsley (finger) will make a rehab start with High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.
Billingsley has dealt with a bruised finger for the last couple weeks. Assuming he gets through Thursday's outing fine, he will be activated from the disabled list and make his regular season debut on April 10. The righty hasn't had any issues with his elbow so far this spring, but he remains an injury risk this season.

Fri Mar 29 201320:48Billingsley able to throw breaking balls
Chad Billingsley took another major step in his recovery when he was able to throw his curveball with no problems in a minor league game on Friday.
Billingsley threw 96-pitches over his six innings of work, allowing one run on four hits while striking out six. It still seems likely that he'll begin the season on the disabled list, retroactive to March 22. The Dodgers won't need a fifth starter until April 13, so they have plenty of time to decide how to integrate Billingsley. While he certainly poses tremendous injury risk, he may be worth the gamble in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Tue Mar 26 201319:00Chad Billingsley to start March 29
Chad Billingsley (finger) will make his next start on March 29.
It rules him out for April 2, but he should be ready to take his first turn soon after that as long as he doesn't have a setback. The Dodgers will have Billingsley start a minor league game on the 29th just in case a DL move needs to be backdated.

Chad Billingsley (finger) threw 92 pitches in a minor league game Saturday.
"As long as there are no setbacks, I plan to be ready (for Opening Day)," Billingsley said after the start. The 28-year-old is dealing with a bruised index finger that kept him from throwing his curveball Saturday, but he was able to throw his other four pitches without trouble. Billingsley is scheduled to make one more exhibition start prior to the beginning of the season, after which more should be known about his availability.
