Ross went 0-for-4 but took some good swings in his final rehab game Sunday at the Triple-A level. "Real strong report on him, everything he did," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. The 31-year-old outfielder was batting .271/.349/.534 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 37 games before fracturing his foot and should continue to carry good value in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Cody Ross (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket Sunday.
He had been scheduled to start the assignment Friday, but it's been pushed back a couple days. Ross shouldn't need more than a few games before returning, so he should be back with the Sox sometime next week.

Cody Ross (foot) is scheduled to begin playing in rehab games Friday with Triple-A Pawtucket.
Ross has been on the disabled list since May 22 with a fractured bone in his left foot. He was expected to miss a whole six weeks but is clearly going to beat that timetable. The 31-year-old outfielder was hitting .271/.349/.534 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 37 games before the injury.

Ross is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a fractured bone in his foot. He was originally supposed to be out until early July, but now he'll almost surely be back before the end of the month.

Ross was also slated to take batting practice prior to Thursday's game before rain canceled that. The outfielder said his fractured left foot feels normal at this point, and it's sounding like he'll probably be able to beat his original timetable of six weeks.

Ross was optimistic that he might be able to avoid the disabled list Tuesday when speaking with reporters, but a second opinion on the MRI results of his foot dispelled any hope that his fracture was from a previous injury. The 31-year-old outfielder could need around six weeks of recovery time. Scott Podsednik has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move.

Ross got a second opinion on the fracture in his left foot Tuesday morning and was told that it might be an old break that simply never healed. He told reporters that he's feeling better. The Red Sox are still trying to determine how to proceed. Scott Podsednik is at the ready in case they want to throw Ross on the disabled list anyway.

Cody Ross was diagnosed with a fractured navicular bone in his left foot.
Initial x-rays came back negative, but the fracture was apparently diagnosed in a follow-up exam. No word on the severity or the timetable, but it's the very same injury teammate Dustin Pedroia dealt with during the 2010 season. Ross is expected to be placed on the disabled list when Kevin Youkilis (back) returns on Tuesday.

Cody Ross hit a two-run single off Wade Davis in the top of the eight to lead Boston to a 5-3 win over the Rays on Thursday.
Ross finished 2-for-3 on the night and drove in four of the Red Sox's five runs, including a solo shot off Matt Moore in the third inning. Through 145 plate appearances this season, he's hitting .262 with seven home runs and an .838 OPS.

Ross made an early exit from Wednesday's game against the Twins after reporting some soreness in his left knee. But it was only a precautionary thing and might not even cost him a start. The 31-year-old outfielder boasts an .895 OPS, five home runs and 15 RBI through 17 games this season.

It's not clear at this point how severe the injury might be, but an update should be coming at some point soon. The Sox can hardly afford to lose a hot hitter like Ross, especially given their issues with outfield depth. Darnell McDonald replaced Ross in left field on Wednesday.
