Sun Mar 17 201300:07Ross still working to return from calf injury
Cody Ross's left calf injury is progressing slower than the team had originally hoped.
"It's just been slow," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's done really no full weight-bearing stuff running-wise. He's not ready for it. I think he went in the pool yesterday. I think the next step will be the Ultra G [treadmill], which they can unload some of the weight when he runs." The team had hoped Ross would be able to begin full weight-bearing activities by Tuesday or Wednesday, but that isn't going to happen. His status for Opening Day is officially in doubt.

Fri Mar 8 201308:41Cody Ross could begin running March 18-19
The Diamondbacks hope Cody Ross (calf) can begin full weight-bearing activities, including running, by March 18 or 19.
If he's able to stay on that timetable, Ross should be ready to play on Opening Day. "It's reasonable that it could be, yes," manager Kirk Gibson said. The D'Backs will roll with Gerardo Parra in Ross' place if the outfielder's rehab goes slower than expected.

Tue Mar 5 201315:19Diamondbacks' Cody Ross (leg) out 2-3 weeks
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Tuesday that Cody Ross will miss 2-3 weeks after an MRI revealed a lower left leg strain.
The injury originally cropped up Friday and caused Ross to make an early exit on Sunday. Now he'll get an extended period of rest to try to put it behind him. There's still enough time for him to get ready for the season, but he can't afford any setbacks. The Diamondbacks have Gerardo Parra as an alternative if he needs some extra time.

Cody Ross is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday afternoon for his sore left calf.
Ross began experiencing the calf soreness on Friday in camp and it didn't improve much over the weekend. The Diamondbacks are now looking to rule out any structural damage. If it's just inflammation, Ross should be back in Cactus League games by the end of this week.

Sat Dec 22 201219:23D'Backs sign Ross to 3-year, $26 million deal
Diamondbacks signed OF Cody Ross to a three-year, $26 million contract.
The deal includes an option for a fourth year with a $1 million buyout. The 31-year-old outfielder is coming off a very strong 2012 campaign in which he hit .267/.326/.481 with 22 homers and 81 RBI. His signing likely precludes a trade of either Jason Kubel or Justin Upton, as the D'Backs appear set to let Adam Eaton open the season as their regular center fielder.

Ross met with team officials, including manager Ron Washington and GM Jon Daniels, last night. The level of the Rangers' interest isn't yet known, as they also met with free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski earlier on Tuesday. The Phillies, Red Sox, Braves, Mariners, Mets and Orioles have all been linked to Ross so far this offseason.

The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo writes that the Red Sox are "still in" on free agent Cody Ross.
The Red Sox haven't ruled out bringing back Ross, but it's hard to see where he fits with Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes signed this offseason. One American League GM said Boston, "may be trying to deal Jacoby Ellsbury and then sign Ross after the move Victorino to center." Ross, 31, has received interest from the Phillies, Mets, Braves, Mariners, and Yankees, but isn't believed to be close to signing. He's seeking a three-year deal in free agency.

The Mets are considering alternatives now that Ryan Ludwick, Nate Schierholtz and Mark Reynolds have signed elsewhere. The 31-year-old batted .267/.326/.481 with 22 home runs and 81 RBI in 130 games this past season and is said to be seeking a three-year, $25 million deal. Meanwhile, the Mets are reluctant to go past two years with any free agent. The Yankees and Mariners have also been mentioned as possible landing spots.

Fri Dec 7 201210:22Mariners interest in Cody Ross
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Mariners are interested in Cody Ross.
It's yet another hitter option the Mariners seem to be considering. The M's have been connected to big names like Josh Hamilton, Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher, Billy Butler and Justin Upton, as well as the smaller ones like Ryan Ludwick, Brennan Boesch, Raul Ibanez and Delmon Young. They've also, of course, already agreed to terms with Jason Bay. At least one more hitter figures to land in Seattle.
