Wed Nov 21 201212:53Red Sox focusing on Cody Ross, Jonny Gomes
According to Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com, the Red Sox have narrowed their focus to Cody Ross and Jonny Gomes among free agent outfielders.
The Red Sox have had discussions with Gomes about a two-year deal, but it's not clear what they are discussing with Ross. However, McAdam hears that it's conceivable the club could reach an agreement with one or the other within the week. Gomes batted .262/.377/.491 with 18 homers and an .868 OPS with the A's this season while Ross batted .267/.326/.481 with 22 homers and an .807 OPS with the BoSox. Both are known for knocking around left-handed pitching.

Mon Nov 12 201214:26Phillies pursuing Cody Ross
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Phillies are "among the teams talking" with Cody Ross.
Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported back in September that the Phils were expected to make a run at Ross if he reached free agency. The 31-year-old is reportedly looking for a three-year deal in the vicinity of $25 million. The Red Sox remain interested in re-signing him.

Mon Nov 5 201223:00Cody Ross looking for three years, $25M
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that Cody Ross' representatives were looking for a three-year, $25 million deal during their contract talks with the Red Sox.
Ross said over the weekend that a deal with the Red Sox was never close, so clearly Boston wasn't keen on the $25 million figure. The Sox might be willing to give Ross around $8 million annually, but they'd probably prefer to keep it to two years. The two sides haven't given up hope of reuniting, but Ross will test the market.

Sun Nov 4 201211:06Red Sox, Cody Ross not close to deal
Cody Ross said he was never that close to re-signing with the Red Sox prior to becoming a free agent.
The two sides have had many discussions, but apparently they weren't ever close to crossing the finish line with a deal. Ross would still like to re-sign with the Sox but is now open to going elsewhere. "They had a ton of opportunities," Ross said of the Red Sox. "We talked about this back in July and we couldn't work anything out up until the deadline. Now it only makes sense to listen to other teams. But obviously we're going to talk [with the Red Sox]."

With no deal in place from the Red Sox by midnight on Friday, Cody Ross will test the free agent market.
While the Red Sox remain interested in bringing him back, Ross will likely generate a fair amount of interest on the open market as a cost effective alternative to Josh Hamilton, Michael Bourn or B.J. Upton.

Tue Oct 23 201218:13Red Sox confident they'll re-sign Cody Ross
Ian Browne of MLB.com reports that the Red Sox "continue to negotiate" with Cody Ross and are "confident" they'll be able to re-sign him.
After hiring John Farrell as their new manager, the Red Sox' next order of business has been to re-up with Ross and David Ortiz, and it sounds like both will probably be back in the fold before long. "We've continued dialogue, we've talked to his representative a number of times since the season ended," general manager Ben Cherington said of Ross. "We still want to keep working on that one and give him every chance to return."

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that contract talks between Cody Ross and the Red Sox have gained "some momentum."
The two sides had preliminary extension talks throughout the second half of the regular season, but a formal offer never was made. Evidently the two sides are moving closer to what should be a multi-year deal. Ross proved to be a bargain for the Sox this year, batting .267/.326/.481 with 22 home runs after signing a one-year, $3 million deal last offseason.

Wed Oct 3 201222:55Cody Ross finishes with 81 RBI
Cody Ross went 2-for-3 with his 81st RBI in Wednesday's season-ending loss to the Yankees.
Both hits were singles. Ross finishes 2012 the owner of a .267/.326/.481 slash and 22 home runs. The slugging percentage is his best since his first full season in 2008. Two months shy of his 32nd birthday, Ross should be able to net a two- or three-year deal in free agency.

Ross has been a pleasant surprise for the Red Sox this season, hitting .274 with 20 homers and 72 RBI. Boston is 63-74.

ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports an extension between the Red Sox and Cody Ross could be completed before the end of the season.
The Red Sox have told Ross that they want him back, but negotiations have yet to take place. Cody Ross blasted a two-run homer, powering the Red Sox to a 3-2 victory over the Indians in Cleveland on Friday.
Ross finished the night 1-for-3 and also drew a walk. His two-run blast off Chris Seddon in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the deciding factor in the game. He continues to be a very solid run producer in the middle of the Red Sox lineup, hitting .278 with 18 homers and 58 RBI.

Thu Jul 19 201222:09Ross blasts three-run walkoff HR to stun Sox
Cody Ross played the role of hero again on Thursday, blasting a walk-off three-run homer off Addison Reed, delivering the Red Sox a 3-1 victory over the pale hose in their series finale.
Ross finished the night 2-for-4. There may not be a hotter hitter on the planet at the moment, as he's hit three homers and driven home nine runs over his last two games. On the season, he's now hitting an impressive .274 with 16 bombs and 50 RBI. While there was some thought that he may lose a few at-bats with the return of Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury to the lineup, there's no way the Red Sox can afford to sit him down while he's scorching hot.

Tue Jun 19 201215:31Red Sox activate OF Ross from the DL
Red Sox activated OF Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list.
The 31-year-old outfielder was batting .271/.349/.534 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 37 games before fracturing his foot on May 18. Boston could certainly use that production in its perennially-depleted outfield. Ross is an asset in AL-only fantasy leagues.
