Fri Jun 4 201023:11Capps works hard for a save
On the same day that he got a vote of confidence from his manager, Matt Capps picked up his 18th save of the season against the Reds Friday.
It wasn't exactly pretty for Capps. Protecting a two-run lead, he allowed a leadoff single to Laynce Nix and then a one-out single to Brandon Phillips. But he came back to strike out Joey Votto and got Scott Rolen to foul out to end the game. Capps has pitched well enough this season to get significant slack as the closer, meaning Drew Storen will have to wait for now.

Matt Capps earned his major league-leading 15th save of the season Wednesday in the Nationals' 5-3 victory over the Mets.
Capps allowed a solo home run to Fernando Tatis, but rallied back and did not allow another baserunner. He has a 2.11 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and has been one of the surprises of the 2010 season thus far. Drew Storen also earned his first career win Wednesday and Tyler Clippard picked up his eighth hold.
Sat May 8 201016:20Capps saves 12th game in win
Matt Capps notched a perfect ninth inning for his major league-high 12th save on Saturday afternoon.
The Nationals pulled ahead in the bottom of the eighth inning when Adam Dunn was hit by a pitch by Renyel Pinto with the bases loaded. Capps took the loss on Wednesday, but has been virtually spotless this season, posting a 1.04 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 16 appearances.
Wed Apr 28 201017:02Nationals' Capps records 10th save
Matt Capps pitched a perfect ninth inning for his major league-high 10th save on Wednesday.
On the same day Octavio Dotel blew a save for the Pirates. Capps, who was non-tendered by Pittsburgh in December, has allowed two runs -- one earned -- in 13 1/3 innings. He's recorded saves in 10 of the Nationals' 12 victories.
Thu Apr 8 201019:46Capps earns first save with scoreless ninth
Matt Capps pitched a scoreless ninth inning Thursday against the Phillies to earn his first save of the regular season.
Capps is doing his best to hold off Brian Bruney for the Nationals' closer gig. He allowed a hit and a walk Thursday afternoon, but everything will be groovy as long as he can keep runners from crossing the plate.
