Bergman will start Tuesday's game in San Francisco, the Denver Post's Nick Groke reports.
Jorge De La Rosa (groin) will miss another turn in the Rockies' rotation, and Bergman will be summoned from the bullpen to take his place. Bergman has a 5.93 ERA as a starter in 54.2 big league innings, and even though the game is not in Coors Field, there's relatively little upside in streaming him Tuesday. Depending on how he fares and how De La Rosa progresses, Bergman could linger in the rotation for a couple more starts, but his stay in the rotation will almost certainly be short-lived.

The Rockies might need to turn to Bergman to start in place of Jorge De La Rosa on April 14, the Denver Post reports.
That's when the Rockies will first need a fifth starter. De La Rosa's groin injury appears likely to keep him out longer than the Rockies first anticipated.

Bergman has been moved to the bullpen, the Denver Post reports.
A bout of shoulder fatigue seemed likely to shut the door on Eddie Butler's chances of breaking camp with a rotation spot, but Butler recovered quickly and will start the third game of the season for Colorado if all goes well in his final spring tuneup. Bergman, who gave up nine earned runs in 14.2 Cactus League innings, will serve in a long-relief role to start the season.

Bergman looks to be in line to claim an Opening Day rotation spot for the Rockies after Eddie Butler was shut down Monday due to shoulder fatigue, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Despite terrible results this spring (5.52 ERA, 6:5 K:BB ratio over 14.2 innings), Bergman is positioned to break camp with the club simply by staying healthy. With all of Butler, Jorge De La Rosa, and David Hale succumbing to injuries, Bergman could take the ball for the Rockies' third game of the season next Wednesday in Milwaukee. Bergman's stay with the Rockies figures to be brief so long as one or two of the ailing pitchers are able to return before the end of April, but even as a streaming option in NL-only leagues, he'll struggle to return much value. In his 10 starts with the big club last season, Bergman posted a putrid 5.1 K/9 rate and failed to compensate for that deficiency by generating enough groundballs (32.7 GB%), resulting in a bloated 5.93 ERA.

Bergman is one of four pitchers under consideration for the two remaining vacancies in the Rockies' rotation, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Bergman was largely viewed as an afterthought in the competition heading into the season due to the glut of starters ahead of him on the depth chart, but the release of Jhoulys Chacin and a groin injury that will sideline Jorge De La Rosa for the beginning of the year have since thinned the ranks. Though top prospects Eddie Butler and Jon Gray have been stellar in Cactus League play this spring, it's believed that the Rockies would prefer to have one or both open the season at Triple-A Albuquerque to get further seasoning. With that in mind, there's plenty of opportunity here for Bergman -- who has given up three runs on 10 hits and four walks over 11.2 innings this season --to claim a starting role right away for the Rockies. The 26-year-old is lauded for his ability to find the strike zone, but it came at the cost him giving up too much hard contact during his 10 starts with the Rockies last season, during which he posted a 5.93 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. Even in NL-only formats, Bergman will carry little intrigue if he ends up opening the season with the big club.

Bergman allowed two runs on six hits and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings in the Rockies' 8-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
He recovered nicely from a six-run outing last week. In nine outings, he's allowed four of fewer runs seven times. He has allowed 24 hits in four starts in September, though. His ERA sits at 5.29 for the season after the start.

Bergman (2-4) was blasted for six runs on nine hits over five frames in Monday's 11-3 loss to the Dodgers. He struck out seven batters and walked one in the defeat.
Bergman was effective through the first five innings, but everything unraveled for both him and the bullpen in the sixth, as seven consecutive Dodgers reached base in an eight-run inning. With Eddie Butler set to join the Colorado rotation Saturday against the Diamondbacks, Bergman will likely have his next turn pushed back a day as he attempts to recover from the disappointing showing.

Bergman pitched well Tuesday against the Mets, but wasn't able to get any run support, as he gave up two runs on six hits and no walks in six innings and ended up taking the loss.
He now has a 3.42 ERA over his last four starts, but has just seven strikeouts in 23.2 innings over that span. Factoring in how bad his team is and how rarely he misses bats, there's not a lot of fantasy upside here, even if he continues to pitch relatively well. His next start is Monday against the Dodgers.

Bergman gave up two runs on nine hits over six innings in a winning effort against the Giants on Wednesday.
The Colorado offense provided plenty of run support, enabling Bergman to earn his second win of the season on a day where he did not record a strikeout or walk. Most of his success came from staying ahead of opposing hitters (he threw a first-pitch strike to 20 of the 26 batters he faced). Bergman will make his next start Tuesday at Citi Field against the Mets.

Bergman tossed 5.1 innings Friday night versus the Diamondbacks, giving up just one earned run on two hits and five walks while recording five strikeouts.
Issuing five free passes as he found the zone with just 54-of-95 pitches, Bergman obviously had command issues Friday night, However, the Rockies' right-hander was effectively wild, turning in possibly the best outing to this point in his rookie campaign. Bergman will carry a lofty 5.74 ERA into his sixth big-league start, which is slated for Wednesday afternoon against the Giants.

Bergman allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out one in 6.1 innings in the Rockies' 7-4 win over the Marlins on Sunday.
Bergman took the win, the first in his career. He was activated from the 60-day DL on Sunday. He has allowed 12 runs in four starts this season.
Sun Aug 24 201414:28Bergman (hand) activated from 60-day DL on Sunday
Bergman (hand) was activated from the 60-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com reports. He'll take the ball for the Rockies' game with the Marlins.
As anticipated, Bergman will fill the rotation spot vacated by Yohan Flande, who was returned to Triple-A Colorado Springs earlier in the week. Prior to breaking a bone in his hand that resulted in a two-month stay on the DL, Bergman was 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA and 1.66 WHIP over three starts. The soft-tossing right-hander isn't likely to post pretty numbers while he remains with the Rockies, particularly when he pitches at Coors Field.
Wed Aug 20 201419:08Bergman (hand) will start Sunday against Marlins
Bergman (hand) will start Sunday against the Marlins, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Bergman suggested as much earlier in the week, but manager Walt Weiss confirmed that the right-hander will come off the 60-day DL and toe the rubber in the finale against Miami. In three starts for the big club this season, Bergman has given up five homers over 15 innings, so the matchup at Coors Field is likely one most will want to avoid.

Bergman (hand) said Tuesday that he's in line to come off the 60-day DL to start for the Rockies on Sunday vs. the Marlins, Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports.
Bergman completed a five-start rehab assignment between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Colorado Springs to varying results, particularly when he moved back to the higher level. Even so, the Rockies apparently believe he'll be a better rotation option than Yohan Flande, who was demoted to Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

Bergman (hand) is scheduled to make his next rehab start at Triple-A Colorado Springs on Friday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
The outing will mark Bergman's third rehab start since landing on the disabled list in late June, after he made his first two starts at Double-A Tulsa. Bergman will be capped at around 90 pitches on Friday, and may only need one rehab start after that before rejoining the major league rotation. Considering the Rockies are currently trotting out uninspiring retreads Franklin Morales and Yohan Flande to fill out the bottom two spots of their rotation, it would make sense for the team to take a longer look at Bergman over the season's final month.

Bergman (hand) has given up three runs over nine innings during his two rehab starts with Double-A Tulsa.
Bergman looks like he's nearly all the way recovered from the broken bone he suffered on his hand back in June, but his placement on the 60-day DL takes a return off the table until late August. By that point, the Rockies' battered rotation should at least be a little healthier, perhaps preventing him from reclaiming a starting job with the big club.

Christian Bergman (hand) threw another bullpen session Tuesday.
Bergman isn't eligible to return until August 20 after being placed on the 60-day DL, but he should have no trouble being ready by then. It's not a given, however, that he'll return to the big league rotation.

Mon Jun 23 201417:33Bergman (hand) reporting improvement
Christian Bergman (hand) is feeling better.
Bergman took a line drive off his left (non-throwing) hand during Friday's outing against the Brewers, but he has most of his range of motion back and and can play catch. If a follow-up MRI comes back negative, he'll likely be cleared to start Wednesday against the Cardinals.
