ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers agreed to one-year contracts with Nomar Mazara and Delino DeShields, avoiding arbitration with both outfielders Friday.Mazara gets $3.3 million, a big raise over the $563,560 he made last season. DeShields received a $1.4 million deal after earning $561,500 last year. They were the only two Texas players eligible for salary arbitration this winter.Mazara made his major league debut in 2016 at age 21 and has hit 20 home runs in each of his three seasons. The right fielder batted .258 with 77 RBIs in 128 games last year, when he missed a month because of a sprained right thumb. The thumb still bothered him after he returned in mid-August and he failed to homer in his last 22 games. But he didn't need surgery after a postseason exam.In 421 career games over three seasons, Mazara has a .258 average, 60 homers and 242 RBIs.The speedy DeShields, the team's opening-day center fielder two of the last three seasons, hit .216 with 20 stolen bases in 106 games... ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have avoided arbitration with outfielders Nomar Mazara and Delino DeShields by agreeing to 2019 contracts.Mazara, the 23-year-old slugger already with three 20-homer seasons, will make $3.3 million and DeShields will get $1.4 million. Both made about $550,000 last season.The Rangers haven't had to go to a salary arbitration hearing since 2000 with first baseman/designated hitter Lee Stevens.Mazara hit .258 with 20 homers and 77 RBIs in 128 games last season, when he missed a month because of a sprained right thumb. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers right fielder Nomar Mazara won't need surgery on his sprained right thumb after being examined by a hand specialist.The Rangers said Tuesday that Dr. Thomas DiLiberti determined that the ligament in the thumb was "a little swollen but fully stable." The doctor said the swelling should subside in the next few weeks with rest, and that no other treatment was necessary at this time.Mazara missed a month on the disabled list because of the sprained thumb that still bothered him after he returned to the lineup in mid-August. The 23-year-old outfielder didn't homer in his last 22 games, and hit .258 overall in 128 games. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is still out of the lineup because of his troublesome left hamstring, but still on the active roster and hoping to avoid a third trip to the disabled list this season."That's the question right now. We want to wait a couple days," the 39-year-old Beltre said Thursday.Beltre aggravated the hamstring Monday night when scoring from second base on a bloop single to left-center field. The active career hits leader didn't play Tuesday night before the Rangers had a day off."Medically, it's a grade 2 (strain).
