Mon Feb 25 201312:35John Lamb's velocity lacking
Baseball America's J.J. Cooper reports that John Lamb (elbow) was sitting in the mid-80s during Sunday's appearance against the Rangers.
Lamb gave up four hits and one run in his inning of work. The lack of velocity is concerning because the left-hander is now 19 months removed from Tommy John surgery, and his velocity and results were also disappointing when he returned late last year. Lamb, 22, was able to touch the mid-90s with his heater when he was considered one of the best pitching prospects in the game. He'll need to show more pep on his fastball in order to regain his prospect status.

Fri Apr 27 201212:05John Lamb throwing from mound
Royals pitching prospect John Lamb (elbow) is throwing from a mound in extended spring training.
Lamb remains on track to pitch in the minors later this summer. One of the team's top prospects, the 21-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery last June. He obviously won't be counted on this season, but if his recovery continues to move along well, he could make some noise with the Royals in 2013.

Thu Jun 2 201114:09Royals' Lamb to have Tommy John surgery
Royals prospect left-hander John Lamb will undergo Tommy John surgery Friday.
The surgery will be performed by Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles. Lamb, 20, was ranked as the No. 18 prospect in the game by Baseball America coming into the season. The southpaw had a legitimate chance to reach the majors this season prior to the injury, but now he'll be sidelined until the early part of the 2012 season. Hopefully it's just a speed bump in a still promising career.

Tue May 31 201119:04John Lamb to get elbow looked at
John Lamb will have his elbow examined by specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles Wednesday.
The Royals are obviously hoping that Tommy John surgery isn't in the future for one of their top prospects, but it certainly seems possible. We'll update Lamb's condition once the results of the examination are revealed.

Fri May 20 201109:13Royals prospect John Lamb has elbow issue
Elite Royals' left-handed pitching prospect John Lamb was forced from his start for Double-A Northwest Arkansas after just six pitches on Thursday due to elbow discomfort.
That sounds ominous, but it's too early to jump to any conclusions. It's obviously never good news when a pitcher of Lamb's ilk (he is rated as Baseball America's No. 18 overall prospect) experiences elbow issues, but his bright future is also reason for the Royals to exercise the utmost caution. Expect his status to soon be updated.
