Thu May 12 201122:31Derek Lowe shaky in no-decision
Derek Lowe labored through six innings Thursday, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks but escaping with a no-decision in the 6-5 extra innings win over the Nationals.
He also hit a batter and served up a pair of home runs. Lowe has for the most part been very solid this season, but he's mixed in three clunkers in his last five starts. Still, that 3.73 ERA and 1.26 WHIP, no to mention a surprising 8.3 K/9 rate, is nothing to sneeze at. He'll go up against the Astros in his next outing.

Tue May 10 201116:09Lowe (foot) to make next start
Derek Lowe (foot) will make his next scheduled start Thursday against the Nationals.
Lowe was bothered by a blister on the bottom of his right foot during Friday's no-hit bid against the Phillies, but it's not a major concern. The veteran right-hander has a 3.22 ERA and 41/14 K/BB ratio over his first eight starts this season.

Derek Lowe wasn't sharp on Sunday, allowing four runs, six hits and two walks in five innings, but ended up with a no-decision as Atlanta pulled off a walk-off, 6-5 win over the Cardinals.
Lowe needed 91 pitches to get through his five innings of work, and struck out five in his first start since his Thursday DUI arrest. His next outing should come on Friday, where he has a tough assignment in slowing down the Phillies in Philadelphia.

Fri Apr 29 201116:46Lowe will make scheduled start Sunday
Derek Lowe will make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Cardinals.
Pretty much what we were expecting, though we just now received confirmation. Lowe was arrested and charged late Thursday night for DUI, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. He was allegedly racing another driver when he was pulled over. The veteran right-hander has since released a statement apologizing to the fans, his teammates and the Braves organization.

Fri Apr 29 201108:11Derek Lowe arrested for DUI Thursday night
Derek Lowe was arrested for DUI at around 10 PM Thursday night in Atlanta.
After Lowe was stopped, the trooper "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" and gave him a field sobriety test. Lowe then refused to take a state-administered alcohol test and was also charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. It's unlikely this will affect Lowe's scheduled start Sunday, but we'll update his status when more is known.

Sat Apr 16 201119:33Lowe to pitch Wednesday on short rest
Derek Lowe will start Wednesday's game against the Dodgers on short rest.
Due to the doubleheader with the Mets on Saturday and the lack of a Monday off-day, Lowe will get the ball Wednesday on three days rest. Lowe is a workhorse and has been known to pitch on short rest throughout his career, so there's no real reason for worry.

Sat Apr 16 201119:00Lowe goes six innings in win over Mets
Derek Lowe yielded two runs over six innings in Saturday's win over the Mets.
Finally some luck for Lowe, who received zilch in the way of run support in his previous two starts. He scattered five hits against two walks and four strikeouts. Lowe now owns a 1.82 ERA and 19/7 K/BB ratio over his first four starts this season and makes for a solid option in mixed leagues against the Dodgers next week.

Derek Lowe was excellent on Sunday, limiting the Phillies to just seven hits and two runs over seven innings of work, but got out-dueled by Cole Hamels in Atlanta's shutout loss.
He struck out two and walked none while throwing 99 pitches. Lowe now owns an excellent 1.45 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over his first three starts, but has gotten stuck with a 1-2 record thanks to poor run support. He'll get the Mets his next time out.

Mon Oct 11 201022:36Lowe takes loss in Game 4 vs. Giants
Derek Lowe allowed three runs -- two earned -- over 6 1/3 innings in Monday's loss to the Giants.
You really couldn't have ask for much more from a pitcher on three days' rest. Lowe held the Giants hitless over the first 5 1/3 innings until he surrendered a game-tying solo home run to Cody Ross. All told, he gave up just two hits while striking out eight and walking two. The final two runs scored after he was pulled from the game.
Sat Oct 9 201018:31Braves likely to go back to Lowe in Game 4
The Braves are leaning towards pitching Derek Lowe on three days' rest in Monday's Game 4 against the Giants.
Lowe allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings in the Game 1 loss. "He threw, if you subtract the intentional walk, I think only 88 pitches, and he's been politicking before the series started," manager Bobby Cox said. "And he's good on three [days rest]. He didn't throw a lot of pitches, he didn't labor. Right now I would lean toward him, subject to change, but I don't know why not." Brandon Beachy is the alternative for Atlanta.

Fri Oct 8 201000:11Lowe pitches well but Braves fall in Game 1
Derek Lowe limited the Giants to one run over 5 1/3 innings Thursday but the Braves fell in Game 1 of the NLDS.
Lowe did the best he could, holding San Francisco to four hits while striking out five, but a bad call on a Buster Posey steal attempt in the fourth inning led to the lone run of the game. And the Braves couldn't muster more than two hits offensively. Game 2 will be played Friday.
Mon Oct 4 201015:07Lowe tabbed to start Game 1 of NLDS
Derek Lowe will start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Giants.
Tommy Hanson and Tim Hudson will start Games 2 and 3, but the Braves have yet to officially decide the order. Lowe faced the Giants twice during the 2010 regular season and allowed three total runs.

Wed Sep 29 201019:35Braves' Lowe fans nine in win over Marlins
Derek Lowe beat the Marlins on Wednesday by allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings and striking out nine.
He definitely peaked at the right time: Lowe won his last five regular-season starts to finish 16-12 with a 4.00 ERA. It's the lowest his ERA has been at any point since he gave up a three-run homer in the first inning of his Opening Day start against the Cubs. In large part because of Lowe's late run, the Braves are now looking like pretty good bets to advance to the postseason.
Sat Sep 25 201017:13Lowe earns fourth win this month
Derek Lowe improved to 15-12 on the year by tossing five shutout frames in a 5-0 win over the Nationals on Saturday afternoon.
Lowe needed 29 pitches to escape the first inning, so the early exit wasn't a big surprise. He limited the Nats to five hits while striking out four and walking one. The veteran right-hander is a perfect 4-0 with a 1.08 ERA over four starts this month, improving his ERA to 4.07 on the year. As for his next start, Braves manager Bobby Cox is considering using Lowe on Wednesday against the Marlins on three days' rest. Desperate times.
Sun Sep 19 201016:30Lowe posts quality start as Braves sweep Mets
Derek Lowe tossed six innings of two-run ball as the Braves beat the Mets on Sunday to complete a series sweep.
Lowe has posted quality starts, and victories, in each of his last three starts. He's also walked just one batter during that span. Lowe will get the Nationals next time out and is worth using in mixed leagues at the moment.
Mon Sep 13 201021:32Lowe throws eight scoreless, Braves win
Derek Lowe fired eight scoreless innings and struck out 12 Monday in the Braves' 4-0 defeat of the Nationals.
Lowe tossed six innings of one-run ball last time out against the Pirates and appears to be fully recovered from the elbow discomfort that hobbled him earlier this month. He allowed only six hits to the Nationals and did not issue a single walk. The right-hander now stands 13-12 on the year with a 4.22 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. He will get the Mets next.
Fri Sep 10 201011:02Lowe feels no discomfort in elbow
Derek Lowe felt no discomfort in his elbow during his start on Wednesday.
"It really feels surprisingly a lot better than it's been," said Lowe, who was recently found to have a bone chip in his right elbow. "That's encouraging. Hopefully it stays like this the rest of the season and hopefully I don't have to have it taken out. That's the ultimate goal. If it stays like this, there's no reason to go in there and take it out." Lowe threw six innings of one-run ball against the Pirates on Wednesday. He looks good to go against the Nationals next Monday, though he remains a pretty fringy option in mixed leagues.
