Sat Sep 22 201218:31Samuel Deduno obliterated in loss to Tigers
Samuel Deduno was obliterated in Saturday's loss to the Tigers, surrendering seven runs on seven hits in just 2 1/3 innings of work.
Deduno also issued three free passes and struck out just one in his brief outing. Austin Jackson blasted a solo homer in his first pitch of the afternoon, and Delmon Young launched a three-run shot as part of a five-run third inning. It was his shortest outing in 14 starts on the season, and the second time in his last six that he's allowed at least seven earned runs. He'll take a 6-5 record, 4.54 ERA and 55/51 K/BB ratio into a rematch against these Tigers at home on Friday.

Sat Sep 15 201215:59Deduno shaky in loss to White Sox
Samuel Deduno was chased for four runs over four innings in Saturday's loss to the White Sox.
Deduno notched six strikeouts, but he was all over the place, walking five batters while throwing two wild pitches. He was pulled after throwing just 40 out of 86 pitches for strikes. The 28-year-old right-hander now has a 3.84 ERA in 13 starts, despite an underwhelming 54/48 K/BB ratio over 75 innings. He makes for a shaky option in fantasy leagues next week against the Tigers.

Samuel Deduno held down the Indians Monday, limiting them to two runs on just three hits and three walks over seven innings in the 7-2 win.
Deduno struck out six and served up a longball to Lonnie Chisenhall. The 29-year-old right-hander has walked at least three batters in 10 of 12 starts this season and hasn't missed a ton of bats, yet he's managed to put up a 3.55 ERA. He'll get the White Sox this weekend.

Samuel Deduno picked up a loss despite a solid effort Monday, as he limited the White Sox to two runs over six innings of work.
He gave up six hits, walked three and struck out three, with the lone blemish coming in the form of a two-run homer from Gordon Beckham. Deduno has managed a 3.66 ERA in 11 starts for the Twins despite awful ratios. He'll get the Indians this weekend.

Wed Aug 29 201223:35Samuel Deduno baffles Mariners
Samuel Deduno blew away the Mariners in Wednesday's 10-0 win, allowing just two hits while striking out nine in seven scoreless innings of work.
It was far and away the baffling 29 year old's best start of the year, and also his first walk-free performance. The 9/0 K/BB night finally gets him back to more strikeouts than walks on the season, as his K/BB ratio now rests at 39/37 through 58 frames. The owner of an inexplicable 3.72 ERA, Deduno will get the White Sox in Chicago on Monday.

Tue Aug 7 201223:03Deduno struggles in no-decision vs. Indians
Samuel Deduno struggled in a no-decision against the Indians on Tuesday, surrendering four runs on five hits over four innings of work.
Deduno also walked five while striking out three on the evening. Shelley Duncan tagged him for a two-run homer in the Tribe's three-run second inning to break the game open. While he's had decent results with a 3-0 record and 3.27 ERA through his first six starts, Deduno now posts a horrifying 22/25 K/BB ratio and a FIP of 5.68, both strong indicators that extreme regression could be looming. Sell high if you can, but he shouldn't be started in any format when he takes on the Tigers at home on Monday.

Thu Aug 2 201222:00Deduno strong again, shuts down Red Sox
Samuel Deduno pitched his finest game as a professional in Thursday's victory over the Red Sox, allowing just two hits and four walks over six shutout innings.
Deduno only struck out one in the game, but was able to keep the Red Sox hitters off-balance for the majority of the evening. He's now turned in three straight quality starts, and hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in any of his five starts on the season. His command continues to be an issue, as evidenced by his 19/20 K/BB ratio, but he could still eke out some mixed league value for his home starts. He'll get the ball again on Tuesday, when the Twins battle the Indians in Cleveland.

Sat Jul 28 201222:18Deduno guides Twins past Indians
Samuel Deduno allowed just one run over seven innings Saturday in the Twins' 12-5 win over the Indians.
Deduno issued five walks, but he operated well in situations that required damage control and wound up allowing just two total hits. The right-hander is now sporting a 2-0 record and 3.13 ERA through four MLB starts this season. He might be worth a look in deeper AL-only fantasy leagues.

Samuel Deduno held the Royals to one run on six hits in 6 1/3 innings of Sunday's 7-5 win.
Deduno struck out four and walked three in notching his first major-league victory. The quality outing was also his first since making his 2012 debut on July 7. The owner of a 3.94 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 12/11 K/BB ratio through 16 frames, Deduno isn't yet on the radar in AL-only leagues.

Wed Jul 18 201200:01Deduno struggles against the Orioles in win
Samuel Deduno struggled on Tuesday, allowing four runs -- three earned -- over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision win against the Orioles.
He allowed six hits, walking three and striking out five. This being the 28-year-old's second Major League start, it's harsh to nitpick, but Minnesota's five-man rotation is open to Triple-A fodder at this point. Deduno (5.59 ERA over two starts) shouldn't be used outside of the deepest of AL-only leagues.

Sat Jul 7 201223:16Deduno pitches well in first MLB start
Samuel Deduno pitched fairly well in his first MLB start on Saturday, limiting the hard-hitting Rangers to three runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings.
Deduno walked three and struck out three in the game. Pitching against the Rangers in Arlington is a tough task for any opposing pitcher, let alone a 28-year-old making his first Major League start. Given the circumstances, Deduno turned in a solid performance and did more than enough to keep the Twins in the game. Most of the damage against him came via the longball, with Josh Hamilton and Adrian Beltre each launching solo homers in the game. He did post a 2.14 ERA and 46 K's in 42 innings in nine starts for Triple-A Rochester, so he could be worth a look as a matchup play in deeper formats if he remains in the Twins rotation.

Padres claimed RHP Samuel Deduno off waivers from the Rockies.
Deduno, 27, was designated for assignment on Monday. It's a worthwhile gamble for the Padres, as Deduno has produced a 10.0 K/9 rate in his minor league career, but he often has issues with control. It's a great landing spot for the right-hander, as the Padres have had a habit of getting the most out of relievers in recent years.
