Freddy Garcia (finger) allowed two runs on eight hits over four innings Monday in a minor league rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Garcia threw 42 out of 59 pitches for strikes while walking one and striking out none. Assuming no issues with his right index finger, he should return to pitch in Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.

Sat Aug 20 201109:22Freddy Garcia will make rehab start
Freddy Garcia (finger) had no problems throwing his splitter during a bullpen session Thursday, but the Yankees decided to play it safe and give him a rehab start first.
Garcia wanted to start Sunday, but he'll instead pitch in a rehab game for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Monday before rejoining the rotation next weekend to pitch one of the games of Saturday's doubleheader. The move also allows the Yankees to delay the decision on who gets the boot from the rotation when they go back to five starters.

Fri Aug 19 201117:20Yankees place Freddy Garcia on DL
Yankees placed RHP Freddy Garcia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 8, with a laceration to his right index finger.
As expected, the newly-claimed Aaron Laffey will replace him on the active roster. Garcia hasn't pitched since August 7, so he is eligible to return from the disabled list for the doubleheader in Baltimore next weekend.

Wed Aug 17 201120:53Freddy Garcia to throw bullpen session Thurs.
Freddy Garcia will test out his right index finger by attempting throwing his split-fingered fastball in a bullpen session Thursday.
The veteran was able to throw fastballs and sliders in a bullpen session Tuesday without any issues, but the real test is his splitter, his best pitch. "If he throws his split tomorrow, then we'll make a day where we can slot him in," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "If it's not Saturday, then we'll shoot for Sunday." If Garcia is unable to make his next turn, Girardi said the righty will likely be placed on the DL retroactively.

Tue Aug 16 201117:08Garcia (finger) to throw bullpen session
Freddy Garcia is scheduled to test his right index finger in a bullpen session on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Garcia was scratched from Sunday's start after slicing his finger in a kitchen accident last week. While he no longer needs a bandage on the finger, the Yankees won't clear him until he can throw his split-fingered fastball without discomfort. If all goes well, he could rejoin the rotation this weekend against the Twins.

Freddy Garcia (finger) is expected to return to the mound for the Yankees later this week.
Garcia sliced his finger in a kitchen accident last week and had to be scratched from his scheduled Sunday start. It's healing quickly, though, and he should be ready to rock at some point during the Yankees' four-game weekend series in Minnesota.

Freddy Garcia (finger laceration) expects to be better in "a couple of days."
Garcia sliced his finger in a kitchen mishap about five days ago and was slated to miss Sunday's start before it was rained out. But, he noticed improvement Sunday, saying, "it feels really good." He's hoping to be available sometime during the series in Minnesota beginning on Thursday.

Sun Aug 14 201109:08Girardi not sure when Garcia will start again
Yankees manager Joe Girardi isn't sure how much time Freddy Garcia (finger laceration) will miss.
"Not sure when we'll get Freddy back," Girardi said. "I hope it's one start." Garcia had to be scratched from Sunday's start after cutting himself in a "kitchen accident." The Brewers' Chris Narveson just landed on the disabled list with a lacerated thumb, but it's not clear if Garcia's cut is as bad. The Yanks currently have a six-man rotation, so it wouldn't kill them to be without Garcia for a couple weeks.

Freddy Garcia scattered eight hits and allowed three runs across 7 2/3 innings on Monday, improving to 9-7 in New York's 10-3 win over the Mariners.
He struck out five and walked one. Garcia will have the occasional awful start, but he's been a decent fantasy starter this season, going 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA and 74/32 K/BB rate in 111 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Orioles this weekend.

Freddy Garcia scattered eight hits across 6 2/3 scoreless innings on Wednesday, improving to 8-7 in New York's 4-0 win over the Rays.
He struck out seven and walked none after getting roughed up for six runs in just five innings his last time out. Now reliant on pinpoint control, Garcia will have the occasional disaster start, but even in the bruising American League East, he can be expected to provide a quality start most times out.

Freddy Garcia yielded two runs and eight hits over six innings to beat the Brewers on Tuesday.
He struck out one and didn't walk a batter. Garcia improved his record to 7-6 and lowered his ERA to 3.28. He looked awful in lasting just 1 2/3 innings against the Red Sox on June 7, but in four starts since, he's allowed six earned runs in 26 2/3 innings. He'll get the Mets his next time out.

Tue Jun 7 201122:22Garcia gets rocked in loss to Red Sox
Freddy Garcia was yanked after allowing four runs on three walks and four hits over 1 2/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox.
Hector Noesi did a fine job of saving New York's bullpen, tossing six innings of two-run ball in relief to finish the game. Garcia drops to 4-5 with a 3.86 ERA. The veteran right-hander takes on the Indians Sunday.

Mon May 16 201106:01Garcia hit hard in loss
Freddy Garcia was pedestrian on Sunday, losing to the Red Sox after yielding five runs (four earned) on six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Staked to a 4-1 lead after two innings, Garcia surrendered a one-out, three-run homer to Kevin Youkilis in the third inning, followed by a solo homer to David Ortiz in the fifth. The veteran pitcher has experienced a surprising resurgence in pinstripes this season, but three of his last four starts have been unremarkable at best. He will try to rebound later this week against the crosstown rival Mets.

Wed May 4 201121:56Garcia strikes out eight in seven innings
Freddy Garcia got tagged for 10 hits and four runs in seven innings of work on Wednesday, taking a loss in New York's 4-0 setback against the Tigers.
Garcia was lacking his best stuff, but still managed to fan eight while walking only two. Somebody reliant on pin-point control at this point in his career, Garcia is going to have plenty of nights like tonight where he gives up a ton of hits, but the good should usually outweigh the bad for his fantasy owners.

Sun Apr 24 201120:36Garcia takes no-decision in Baltimore
Freddy Garcia pitched six shutout innings in Baltimore Sunday, but ended up with a no-decision after Mariano Rivera blew a save.
It's a tough break for Garcia, who struck out seven, walked two and gave up just two hits. The Yankees' fifth starter has now turned in two straight impressive outings and is sporting a 0.69 ERA. Today's strikeout total is fluky, but Garcia is still capable of quality outings. With the Yankees' lineup, that makes him worth owning in AL-only formats.
