Mon Dec 20 201009:42Yanks, Mets in on righty Freddy Garcia
The Yankees and Mets have both requested medical records on free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia.
The Orioles have also been a bit aggressive in the hunt for Garcia. He posted a 4.64 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2010 for the White Sox and is likely to settle on a one-year deal with a low base salary. That contract should also come with some performance-based incentives for the oft-injured 34-year-old.

Sat Dec 18 201011:35Report: Orioles interested in Freddy Garcia
According to MASN's Jen Royle, the Orioles have some interest in Freddy Garcia.
Garcia had a 4.64 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 2010 but most importantly was able to make 28 starts, as he started just 23 games over the three previous seasons combined due to shoulder and back problems. The 34-year-old will likely have to settle for an incentive-laden deal.

Tue Dec 7 201012:54Mets have spoken with Freddy Garcia's agent
The Mets have spoken with the representatives for veteran free agent Freddy Garcia, according to the New York Post's Joel Sherman.
Those discussions took place a few weeks ago, however, and the Mets don't consider Garcia a frontburner issue. The veteran right-hander finished the 2010 season with a decent 4.64 ERA and 1.38 WHIP over 28 innings, but he's had a lot of durability issues and that's the last thing the Mets need. If he's still around when the dust settles on the free agent market, they can go ahead and offer him an incentive-laden deal with a low base salary and see if he bites.

Thu Sep 30 201000:13Garcia strong in final start
Freddy Garcia tossed seven innings of two-run ball to beat the Red Sox on Wednesday night.
Garcia heads into free agency on a high note. Outside of some minor back pain in September, the oft-injured Garcia was remarkably healthy in 2010. His 157 innings are the most he's thrown since 2006, but his 4.64 ERA is his highest since 2007.
Sat Sep 25 201000:46White Sox's Garcia strong in return
Freddy Garcia allowed one run over six innings Friday against the Angels in his return from a sore back.
Garcia struck out five in his first start in 17 days. He's 11-6 with a 4.74 ERA with one start remaining. He could use another good one as he heads into free agency.
Wed Sep 22 201000:07Garcia (back) feels 'better' during bullpener
Freddy Garcia (back) said he felt "better" during a bullpen session Tuesday.
It isn't yet clear if he'll be able to make his next scheduled start Friday, but he appears determined to pitch again this season as he approaches free agency this winter. "At least one time to make everybody know there's nothing wrong with me," said Garcia. "I've got pain in my back, but shoulder-wise I'm good." Garcia hasn't pitched since September 7 due to back pain.

Freddy Garcia (back) is expected to pitch again this season despite being scratched Saturday for the second straight start.
"He has done a tremendous job and he has earned our respect," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "When Freddy is ready to go, he will be on the mound." Lucas Harrell, who gave up six runs over 3 1/3 innings in his first start filling in for Garcia, will get the ball again Saturday.

Wed Sep 15 201021:00Garcia (back) likely to be skipped this wknd
Freddy Garcia (back) is unlikely to take his normal turn in the rotation Saturday against the Tigers.
Garcia is still fighting off back soreness and might not be available for another week. "Right now, the situation we [face], I think we would be better off with the veteran pitcher in [reliever Tony] Pena," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Wednesday. "I don't expect Freddy to start a game."

Tue Sep 14 201011:03Freddy Garcia set for bullpen session Tuesday
Freddy Garcia (back) is set for a bullpen session Tuesday.
Garcia was scratched from a scheduled start over the weekend due to back trouble. But if everything runs smoothly Tuesday, he should be cleared for an outing later this week. The 34-year-old righty has posted an 11-6 record, a 4.88 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP over 26 starts this season for the White Sox.

Sat Sep 11 201019:04Freddy Garcia scratched from Sunday start
Freddy Garcia (back) has been scratched from his Sunday start.
Lucas Harrell will start in his place against the Royals. Garcia has been bothered by a sore lower back since leaving his start last week. He was given a pain-killing injection but it obviously didn't do the trick. Harrell threw four scoreless innings last time out and is worth having in AL-only leagues.

Sat Sep 11 201009:05Garcia likely to miss Sunday's start
Freddy Garcia (back) is likely to miss his scheduled start Sunday.
The right-hander had to leave his last outing due to stiffness in his lower back. He received an epidural Thursday, but it will take three days before he'll feel an effect. ''I don't think I can pitch Sunday,'' Garcia said. ''I'll have to throw a bullpen first." The Sox will probably call Lucas Harrell or Tony Pena out of the bullpen to make a start.

Fri Sep 10 201023:37Garcia (back) uncertain about Sunday start
Freddy Garcia (back) isn't sure he'll be able to start against the Royals on Sunday.
Garcia received an epidural on Thursday to help alleviate lingering stiffness in his back. "I don't know yet," said Garcia. "I got this shot yesterday, so it's three days until the medicine kicks in. We'll see from there. I don't think I'm pitching Sunday. I have to throw a bullpen first. Probably, I'll throw a bullpen on Sunday. I don't know." If Garcia is unable to pitch, the team would likely turn to Lucas Harrell or Tony Pena.

Thu Sep 9 201015:43Garcia (back) could start Sunday
Freddy Garcia could make his next start Sunday after receiving an epidural in his ailing lower back.
Garcia was sent back to Chicago on Wednesday in order to have his back examined. He'll try to give it a go, but the White Sox will probably have Lucas Harrell and Carlos Torres at the ready, just in case.

Wed Sep 8 201015:16Garcia (back) still up in the air for Sunday
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen isn't ready to say Freddy Garcia (back) won't make his next scheduled start Sunday against the Royals.
Garcia was forced to leave a second straight start Tuesday night due to a stiff lower back. "We have to be very, very careful with it," said Guillen. "We have people for Sunday just in case he can't go, but I have to see how he feels the next couple of days. I'm not saying, 'Well he's not pitching on Sunday,' and then all of a sudden you see him on the mound. It's not worth that right now." If Garcia can't go, Lucas Harrell and Carlos Torres -- both September call-ups -- are among the potential replacements. The pair combined to give up seven runs -- three earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in relief of Garcia on Tuesday night.

Tue Sep 7 201019:56Garcia leaves start with stiff lower back
Freddy Garcia left Tuesday's start against the Tigers after two innings due to a stiff lower back.
Garcia allowed two runs on three hits -- including a two-run homer by Johnny Damon -- over two innings before being pulled in favor of Lucas Harrell. He was removed from his start last Wednesday with the same issue, so it wouldn't be surprising if the White Sox skip his next turn in the rotation.

Freddy Garcia left Wednesday's start against the Indians after just four innings due to a stiff lower back.
Garcia's early exit seemed injury-related from the get-go. He gave up two runs -- one earned -- on four hits over four innings before being replaced by Tony Pena to begin the bottom of the fifth. We'll likely hear more about his status after the game.

Fri Aug 27 201023:44Garcia finally twirls a gem
Freddy Garcia impressively held the Yankees to two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings to earn his 11th win Friday night.
It's Garcia's longest outing in two months as he struck out three, walked one and scattered five hits. Garcia had it going tonight, but his 4.89 ERA on the season tells the real story. He's more of a spot-start option than anything else at this point.
