Sat Jul 14 201216:29Garcia gives up three runs in win over Angels
Freddy Garcia yielded three runs in five innings Saturday in a win over the Angels.
Garcia labored through a 28-pitch first inning and was fortunate to escape by giving up just two runs. All told, he allowed five hits and five walks while striking out four. It was far from pretty, but it was enough for him to notch his fourth victory of the season. Garcia lines up to start next Thursday against the A's, but he's only an option in AL-only leagues.

Sat Jul 7 201215:52Garcia solid as Yankees take first game of DH
Freddy Garcia allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings in a 6-1 win over the Red Sox on Saturday in the first game of a doubleheader.
Garcia took advantage of a lightweight Boston lineup by scattering six hits while striking out five and walking a pair. The only run scored on an RBI single by Mauro Gomez in the bottom of the fourth inning. David Phelps is still in the mix, but Garcia may end up keeping a rotation spot after CC Sabathia (groin) returns from the disabled list.

Wed Jun 27 201216:39Freddy Garcia gets win in relief
Making his last relief appearance for a while, Freddy Garcia pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings for a win against the Indians on Wednesday.
It's doubtful the Yankees will want to use Garcia again before he makes his return to the rotation Monday against the Rays. The plan was for him to make two starts in place off CC Sabathia before the break, but if he pitches well, he'll likely get to stick around longer now as Andy Pettitte's replacement. Still, AL-only leaguers will probably want to pass.

Wed Jun 27 201211:33Garcia starting Friday vs. White Sox
Freddy Garcia will start in place of CC Sabathia (groin) on Friday against the White Sox.
Sabathia was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a groin strain and is expected to be sidelined through the All-Star break. Garcia has a 6.91 ERA across 28 2/3 innings this season and hasn't started a game since April 28. He can be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

Thu Jun 7 201215:58Yanks excuse Garcia after grandfather's death
Yankees placed RHP Freddy Garcia on the bereavement list.
Garcia's grandfather passed away, so he's heading back to Venezuela for the funeral. The Yankees have called up Ryota Igarashi from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to provide relief depth while Garcia is gone.

Wed May 16 201205:03Garcia tosses two scoreless innings of relief
Freddy Garcia yielded one unearned run on one hit through two innings against the Orioles on Tuesday.
Since his demotion to the bullpen on April 29, Garcia has surrendered only three hits along with zero earned runs in six innings. While his 8.69 ERA remains ugly, he is finally headed in the right direction.

Sun Apr 29 201212:35Yankees move veteran Garcia to bullpen
The Yankees have officially moved Freddy Garcia to the bullpen.
David Phelps is expected to replace him in the rotation. In four starts, Garcia had an 0-2 record and 12.51 ERA through 13 2/3 innings. D.J. Mitchell has been promoted from Triple-A to serve as the Yankees' long man.

Sat Apr 28 201218:58Garcia destroyed by Tigers
Freddy Garcia turned in another abysmal performance against the Tigers on Saturday, allowing six runs on five hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work.
Garcia struck out three and walked two hitters in the short outing. He's been nothing short of dreadful this season, with an 0-2 record and 12.51 ERA through 13 2/3 innings. In all likelihood, this may be the last time you see Garcia pitch in the Yankees rotation. David Phelps, who pitched very well in relief on Saturday, should be a candidate to replace him next time out.

Tue Apr 24 201219:28Freddy Garcia won't be skipped after all
Freddy Garcia is expected to start for the Yankees on either Saturday or Sunday against the Tigers.
The Yanks had considered skipping Garcia's turn in the rotation following Sunday's rainout, but evidently they've decided to keep him on turn. Garcia, who has a 9.75 ERA through his first three starts this season, still seems likely to lose his spot in a couple week when Andy Pettitte is ready, though Phil Hughes has struggled, as well.

Mon Apr 23 201217:50Yankees to skip Garcia's turn in rotation
The Yankees will skip Freddy Garcia's turn in the rotation Saturday.
The Yanks pushed back all their starters after Sunday's game was postponed due to rain. Garcia has a miserable 9.75 ERA through his first three starts this season, but the Girardi said he will pitch again in the rotation. He figures to be the most vulnerable once Andy Pettitte is ready for the big leagues, though.

Sat Apr 21 201220:01Garcia hammered by Red Sox
Freddy Garcia struggled mightily on Saturday against the Red Sox, allowing five runs on seven hits in just 1 2/3 innings of work.
Even the outs that Garcia recorded were hit hard in this one. He's now sporting a 9.75 ERA through 12 innings this year, and he's in serious jeopardy of being cut once Michael Pineda or Andy Pettitte are ready to return to the rotation. Assuming Garcia stays in the rotation, he'll take on the Tigers next week.

Mon Apr 16 201222:42Freddy Garcia blasted by Twins
Freddy Garcia was knocked around by the Twins Monday, allowing five runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings.
He did at least strike out five, but the Twins didn't have trouble squaring up Garcia, who has now holds a 6.97 ERA and 1.55 WHIP through his first two outings. Phil Hughes is also struggling, but Garcia is still the best bet to be booted from the rotation next month when Andy Pettitte is ready. He'll face the Red Sox next.

Tue Apr 10 201223:47Garcia uninspiring in season debut
Freddy Garcia struggled against the Orioles on Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 2/3 innings of work.
Garcia walked three and struck out three, but failed to make it out of the fifth inning. If he continues to pitch this poorly, he may be the odd man out in the rotation once Andy Pettitte is ready to contribute.

Sat Mar 24 201216:34Freddy Garcia successful in return
Back from a bruised hand, Freddy Garcia pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the Tigers on Saturday.
He allowed just one hit and struck out four in the contest. Garcia probably wouldn't work out too well as a reliever, so the Yankees should either make him their fifth starter or trade him. Of course, they are the Bombers, so they could probably get away with stashing him in a mop-up role for a month or two if they so desired.

Tue Mar 20 201214:26Garcia to throw bullpen session Tuesday
Freddy Garcia is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday for the first time since injuring his hand.
Garcia suffered a right hand contusion last week when he was struck by a line drive. He's already back to throwing, though, and should be able to get back on track by the end of this week. With Andy Pettite announcing his return to baseball, the Yankees are likely shopping the 35-year-old Garcia.

Sun Mar 18 201217:50It won't be easy for NYY to deal SP Garcia
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that it will not be easy for the Yankees to trade Freddy Garcia.
Speculation has centered on this scenario since New York signed Andy Pettitte. Heyman lists many reasons that Garcia will be difficult to move: He's suffering from a bruised right hand, the Yanks would need Garcia's permission to make a trade before June 16, because he was signed this winter as a major league free agent, he makes $4 million, and New York likely wouldn't send him to AL contenders looking for rotation help, such as Boston, Toronto and Detroit. Buster Olney of ESPN writes that the Marlins could be a fit for Garcia, as they have open payroll space and manager Ozzie Guillen has a good relationship with the starter.

Thu Mar 15 201222:49Freddy Garcia (hand) may be pushed back
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Freddy Garcia's next start could be pushed back.
Garcia suffered a right hand contusion Wednesday when he was struck by a comebacker. "I don't expect miracles," Girardi told reporters. "I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't make his next start on his day, maybe a couple of days later." The veteran right-hander is battling Phil Hughes for the final spot in the Yankees' starting rotation.

Thu Mar 15 201209:53Garcia (hand) thinks he'll miss a couple days
Freddy Garcia (hand) thinks he's only miss a couple days.
Garcia suffered a right hand contusion after being hit by a comebacker during his start on Wednesday. Assuming the swelling goes down quickly, he should resume his competition with Phil Hughes for the fifth spot in the Yankees' starting rotation.

Wed Mar 14 201214:30Freddy Garcia (hand) to be sent for X-rays
Freddy Garcia was diagnosed with a right hand contusion, but is being sent back to Tampa for precautionary X-rays.
