Wed Mar 14 201214:19Freddy Garcia hit in hand by comebacker
Freddy Garcia exited Wednesday's start against the Blue Jays after being hit on the right hand by a comebacker.
Garcia walked off the field with a team trainer. The veteran right-hander allowed one run (a solo homer by Edwin Encarnacion) over three innings before exiting. He's currently competing with Phil Hughes for the final spot in the starting rotation, but an extended absence would take him out of the running.

Sun Jan 15 201214:06Freddy Garcia can't be traded until June?
Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York was told by a Yankees official that Freddy Garcia cannot be traded until June unless he gives the team permission.
The Yanks almost surely would not have re-signed Garcia last month had they known they were going to execute a trade for Michael Pineda and signing of Hiroki Kuroda. With those additions, he now looks like one of the odd men out of the rotation, though he'll, in theory, compete with A.J. Burnett and Phil Hughes for the No. 5 spot in spring training. The veteran might prefer to pitch in a rotation elsewhere, though.

Fri Dec 9 201111:48Freddy Garcia deal becomes official
Yankees signed RHP Freddy Garcia to a one-year, $4 million contract.
The deal was agreed upon a couple weeks ago and is now finally official, as the Yankees were probably waiting until after the Rule 5 draft to sort through 40-man roster issues. Garcia posted a 3.62 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 146 2/3 innings with the Bombers in 2011 and will again hold down a spot at the back-end of their rotation in 2012.

Fri Nov 25 201111:59Freddy Garcia will get $4 million from Yanks
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that Freddy Garcia will earn $4 million on his new deal with the Yankees.
Heyman reported Thursday that Garcia would get $5 million, but he's now saying that the right-hander will get $4 million plus incentives. It's a fair raise after Garcia earned $3.35 million in 2011 while posting a surprising 3.62 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 146 2/3 innings with the Bombers. The 35-year-old will hold down a spot at the back end of New York's rotation.

Garcia was offered arbitration by the Yankees late Wednesday night after posting a surprising 3.62 and 1.36 WHIP ERA over 146 2/3 innings during the 2011 regular season. He's likely to see a significant raise from his $1.5 million 2011 salary. The Red Sox were known to have some amount of free agent interest in him.

Wed Nov 23 201121:50Yankees offer arbitration to Freddy Garcia
The Yankees offered arbitration to Freddy Garcia.
Garcia could accept the offer if he can't land a multi-year deal. He posted a 3.62 ERA in 146 2/3 innings this past season for New York and might be able to cash in on a free agent market short on reliable starters. But he's now 35 and stands to make over $3 million via arbitration.

Yankees GM Brian Cashman has already spoken with the agent for veteran right-hander Freddy Garcia.
The Yanks are hoping to bring back the free agent, who registered a 3.62 ERA and 96/45 K/BB ratio in 146 2/3 innings this season. There's thought to be some mutual interest, but Garcia may want to shop himself around first in search of a multi-year contract.

Tue Nov 1 201109:39Yankees want to bring back Freddy Garcia
The Yankees want to bring back free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia, according to the New York Post.
Garcia posted a strong 3.62 ERA in 146 2/3 innings this season after signing a $1.5 million deal last winter. He'll probably want a raise, but the Yankees should have no trouble granting him one. "There's definitely interest on their part and there's interest on Freddy's part in coming back," agent Peter Greenberg said Monday.

Thu Sep 29 201108:47Freddy Garcia to start Game 3 of ALDS
Freddy Garcia will start Game 3 of the ALDS against the Tigers.
An expected move, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi finally made it officially following Wednesday's season finale. Garcia regressed a bit after the All-Star break, but finished the year with a surprising 3.62 ERA and 96/45 K/BB ratio over 146 2/3 innings. He lost his lone start against the Tigers this season back on May 4, allowing four runs over seven innings. The Yankees are expected to go with three starters, so Bartolo Colon will likely be left off the ALDS roster.

Tue Sep 27 201120:40Freddy Garcia likely to be Game 3 starter
Freddy Garcia is considered the front-runner to start Game 3 of the ALDS.
The Yankees will go with CC Sabathia in Game 1 and Ivan Nova in Game 2, and Garcia likely cinched the No. 3 spot with six shutout frames Saturday. That means Bartolo Colon will be the team's No. 4 starter, while Phil Hughes will be used out of the bullpen.

Sat Sep 24 201119:17Garcia tosses six shutout innings in win
Freddy Garcia hurled six shutout frames in Saturday's win over the Red Sox.
Garcia scattered six hits (all of them singles) while striking out three and walking just one. It was his first scoreless outing since July 20. Though he has been somewhat fortunate, the 34-year-old right-hander will finish the regular season a 3.62 ERA, his lowest ERA since 2001 as a member of the Mariners. With Bartolo Colon seemingly running out of gas, Garcia should be considered the favorite to start Game 3 of the ALDS.

Sun Sep 18 201116:06Freddy Garcia struggles again
Freddy Garcia struggled again Sunday, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Adam Lind took Garcia deep twice. The veteran right-hander has now given up 15 runs over his last three starts, covering 12 1/3 innings. If he's not careful, it might be Garcia that's boot from the playoff rotation. He'll try to rebound against the Red Sox.

Sun Sep 11 201119:12Garcia knocked around by Halos
Freddy Garcia labored through five innings Sunday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks before escaping with a no-decision in a 6-5 win over the Angels.
He was tagged for a pair of home runs and struck out three batters. Garcia was terrific in his first start back from the disabled list, but he's now thrown up two straight clunkers, giving up 12 runs over just 7 2/3 innings. Now with a 3.71 ERA and 1.34 WHIP for the season, the righty will get the Blue Jays next.

Mon Aug 29 201121:55Garcia stellar in return
Freddy Garcia was superb in his first start back from the disabled list Monday, limiting the Orioles to just one run on only two hits and a walk over six innings of work in a 3-2 win.
The finger laceration wasn't really a concern, but for anyone that had doubts, they can now be safely eliminated. A solo shot to Mark Reynolds was the only blemish on Garcia's line, along with an Adam Jones double. He'll bring an impressive 3.09 ERA and 1.27 WHIP into a weekend date with the Blue Jays.

Mon Aug 29 201116:05Yanks activate RHP Garcia from DL
Yankees activated RHP Freddy Garcia from the 15-day disabled list.
Garcia will finally make his return Monday night against the Orioles. The veteran right-hander hasn't pitched since August 7 due to a laceration on his right index finger suffered in a kitchen accident. He has a 3.16 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 81/37 K/BB ratio over 122 1/3 innings this season. Nothing official on the corresponding roster move yet, but Hector Neosi will likely be optioned to the minors.
