Sat Mar 30 201303:22Hickson (illness) goes for 17 and 14 vs. UTA
J.J. Hickson played on Friday despite an illness, scoring 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting with 14 rebounds and two assists.
With LaMarcus Aldridge (day-to-day) set to miss some time he should be good for a double-double and some upside every night.

Fri Mar 29 201314:18J.J. Hickson will be in lineup Friday vs. UTA
J.J. Hickson (illness) will play Friday night against the Jazz.
Hickson missed practice Thursday with the ailment but will be needed against Utah's massive frontcourt, especially with LaMarcus Aldridge (sprained ankle) doubtful to play. Assuming Hickson is over whatever was ailing him, he should be in for a heavy load if Aldridge sits. Owners will want to make sure he's in their lineups tonight.

Fri Mar 29 201309:45J.J. Hickson, LaMarcus Aldridge questionable
J.J. Hickson (illness) and LaMarcus Aldridge (ankle) are both questionable to play on Friday against the Jazz.
This is a game with playoff implications in a crowded Western Conference, and the Jazz have an opportunity to pull back into the picture with a win. If the Blazers are without Aldridge and Hickson, it's going to be tough sledding for Portland. If both guys sit out, Meyers Leonard and Luke Babbitt could move into the starting lineup, with starters Damian Lillard, Wes Matthews and Nicolas Batum being asked to carry the load.

Thu Mar 28 201316:12J.J. Hickson not feeling well, skips practice
J.J. Hickson missed practice Thursday with an illness and his status for Friday's game is uncertain.
It sounds like the Blazers won't know whether Hickson can go Friday until they see how he rebounds from the illness. LaMarcus Aldridge (sprained ankle) is already questionable for tomorrow night. If both Aldridge and Hickson are unable to go, Meyers Leonard would be in line for a lot of minutes. We should get a much clearer definition of both players' statuses after shootaround tomorrow.

Thu Mar 21 201322:31J.J. Hickson grabs career-high 21 boards
J.J. Hickson grabbed a career-high 21 boards against the Bulls on Thursday, adding nine points and one steal in 34 minutes.
His old career high also came against the Bulls and he almost accounted for half of Portland's 45 boards. Hickson jumped up to fifth in the league in total rebounds and he also ranks fifth in double-doubles. He should be active in all standard lineups.

Tue Mar 19 201322:31J.J. Hickson bounces back on Tuesday
J.J. Hickson bounced back from Monday's 16-minute dud with eight points, 11 boards and zero blocks in 30 minutes in Tuesday's loss to the Bucks.
This was far from his best game of the season, but painted a much better picture than the one from last night, when he had four points and six boards. He hasn't blocked a shot yet this week, but has three more games to make it happen.

Mon Mar 18 201321:51Hickson plays just 16 minutes to start week
J.J. Hickson played just 16 minutes on Monday, scoring four points on 2-of-5 shooting with six rebounds and no steals or blocks.
That's one way to make a five-game week look like a four-game week, and with no report of an injury it looks like Terry Stotts simply went away from Hickson. Meyers Leonard (six points, three rebounds) and Joel Freeland (six points, four rebounds) combined to play 27 minutes, and we doubt that's a trend going forward.

Fri Mar 15 201301:58J.J. Hickson double-doubles vs. NYK
J.J. Hickson had his 36th double-double of the year with 12 points and 16 boards to go with one assist on 5-of-14 shooting in 34 minutes.
Only David Lee has more double-doubles than J.J. Hickson and nobody expected him to be such a beast on the glass this year. Hickson has been outstanding on offense as well, shooting 57 percent from the field, which is up from his career average of 51 percent. He's worth starting in all leagues.

Sat Mar 9 201302:56Hickson goes for 23 and 11 against the Spurs
J.J. Hickson went for 23 and 11 with a block in Friday's win over the Spurs.
Hickson hit 9-of-15 shots in his 32 minutes, and saw Meyers Leonard go down to an ankle injury. He should be in most lineups.

Wed Mar 6 201322:43J.J. Hickson double-doubles in loss vs. MEM
J.J. Hickson had a double-double with 12 points and 13 boards to go with one steal and two blocks on 6-of-12 shooting in 31 minutes.
He's made some great strides this year on rebounding and especially on offense. After shooting just 33.2 percent on jumpers last year, Hickson is shooting an impressive 46.0 percent this season. He should be owned in all leagues and there shouldn't be too much concern about an improving Meyers Leonard.

Sun Feb 24 201323:46J.J. Hickson logs his 30th double-double
J.J. Hickson logged his 30th double-double on Sunday with 11 points and 11 boards, adding three assists and one steal in 30 minutes against the Celtics.
He joins David Lee, Zach Randolph and Nikola Pekovic as the only players in the league with 30 double-doubles. Hickson is having a career year, shooting a stellar 47.1 percent on his jumpers, and the soon-to-be free agent is making himself a lot of money with his play.

Sat Feb 23 201302:45Hickson goes for 22 and 11 on Friday
J.J. Hickson scored 22 points on 11-of-15 shooting with 11 rebounds and two assists in Friday's loss to the Lakers.
Hickson needs to put up big popcorn numbers like that to take into account his lack of steals and blocks, as he put up a big bagel in those areas tonight. All together, he has been a top-75 player this season in standard formats.

Thu Feb 21 201315:11J.J. Hickson will stay in Portland
J.J. Hickson will stay with the Blazers following Thursday's deadline.
There was never really a doubt given his situation with a no-trade clause and Bird rights, so hopefully Hickson owners didn't panic and sell him at a discount. He's having a terrific year in Portland and should remain owned in all leagues.

Thu Feb 21 201314:54J.J. Hickson would approve a trade to BK?
J.J. Hickson would approve a trade to the Nets, according to Chris Sheridan.
He's one of a handful of players with a no-trade clause and Portland also has his Bird rights. The Nets are probably offering their favorite package of MarShon Brooks and Kris Humphries, so Portland probably isn't going to accept their offer. While a trade for Hickson would really hurt his value, he looks to be staying put.

Wed Feb 20 201301:20J.J. Hickson explodes for 25 & 16 in loss
J.J. Hickson hit 10-of-14 shots for 25 points, 16 rebounds, a steal and a block in Tuesday's loss to the Suns.
Hickson took advantage of a slumping Marcin Gortat and posted his best line since Jan. 29, when he had 26 points, 15 boards and two blocks. Hickson was really struggling prior to the break, going for 10 points, five boards and two blocks on Wednesday, and five points with no rebounds or blocks last Tuesday. Hickson might be on his way out of Portland via trade, but if he stays, this might have been the game he needed to get back on track.

Mon Feb 18 201322:59Blazers willing to deal J.J. Hickson
The Blazers are willing to deal J.J. Hickson, but haven't found an appealing offer yet according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
This is strange because Hickson has a no trade clause, and one has to wonder why Woj would put out a report that makes it seem like the Blazers have all the say here. Then there's also the fact that he preserves his Bird Rights if he refuses a trade, so we'll file this report under 'questionable' and move on.

Fri Feb 15 201316:05Report: Nets interested in JJ Hickson
Beat writer Stefan Bondy hears that the Nets are interested in J.J. Hickson.
From Josh Smith to Paul Millsap to Hickson, the Nets are getting linked to every quality power forward whose contract is up after this season. A deal for Hickson seems unlikely, however. He has the right to refuse any trade and is expected to do so in order to retain his Bird Rights this summer.

Tue Feb 12 201322:33J.J. Hickson disappears in loss to Heat
J.J. Hickson had just five points, zero rebounds and three fouls in 13 minutes of Tuesday's loss to the Heat.
There are no reports of an injury and he had scored in double figures in three straight games, while playing heavy minutes. It appears he was benched against the quick Heat, who field a small lineup. Don't ready too much into this one, and look for him to bounce back on Wednesday against the Hornets.

Tue Feb 12 201314:36J.J. Hickson unlikely to be traded
Thanks to his Bird Rights, J.J. Hickson has the right to approve any potential trade.
If Hickson gets traded, he would lose his Bird Rights. In other words, don't expect a deal to happen. Finally finding his niche as a rugged workhorse, Hickson is in the midst of a career year and setting himself up for a big payday this summer. He's shooting a career-high 56.3 percent and ranks eighth in the NBA at 10.6 rebounds per night.
