Mon Dec 3 201222:42J.J. Hickson plays just 12 minutes
J.J. Hickson played just 12 minutes on Monday and had two points and no rebounds against the Bobcats.
Hickson may have been benched for not boxing out properly, but there should be more on this story shortly. We wouldn't cut Hickson at this point since he was averaging a double-double entering today's game. His minutes were divided among Joel Freeland and Meyers Leonard, so there really isn't a speculative add to make stemming from this news.

Sun Dec 2 201200:26J.J. Hickson gets 11 points and five boards
J.J. Hickson played 35 minutes on Saturday and had 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and one block against the Cavs.
Hickson isn't the most talented big man in the league, but the ineptitude of Portland's bench makes him somewhat safe. The Blazers' bench came into this game averaging just 12.9 points, a historically awful margin that ranks dead last in the league.

Wed Nov 28 201222:02J.J. Hickson torches Wizards for 15 & 19
J.J. Hickson had 15 points and a season-high 19 rebounds to go along with a steal and a block in Wednesday's surprising loss to the Wizards.
Hickson has racked up eight double-doubles on the season and three in his last four games. He was available late in the fantasy drafts and has proven to be a steal for his owners. And the best news is that there are no signs of him slowing down any time soon.

Tue Nov 27 201202:19Hickson just misses double-double vs. DET
J.J. Hickson scored nine points on 4-of-9 shooting with eight rebounds, two assists, and one block in 28 minutes on Monday.
Hickson is a consistent low-end producer in 12-team leagues, and he has mostly kept that status whenever Meyers Leonard (21 minutes) has pushed him as he did tonight. Given the fact that Hickson's value is mostly a known quantity, owners should not hesitate to drop him for a sure-fire free agent in 12-team formats -- but outside of that his reliability is too nice to pass up.

Sun Nov 25 201218:33Hickson double-doubles on Sunday
J.J. Hickson posted his seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds against Brooklyn in 33 minutes of action on Sunday.
Hickson shot 8-of-11 from the field to raise his field goal percentage to 52.3 percent. He matched his season high with 19 points and is picking up where he left off with Portland last year. His value could only go up should LaMarcus Aldridge (back) need to miss more time.

Sat Nov 24 201202:28J.J. Hickson plays well in return from injury
J.J. Hickson returned from a shoulder injury and had 14 points, 13 rebounds, a steal and two blocks on 6-of-10 shooting in 31 minutes.
We keep getting questions about dropping Hickson, but we don't see why. He's having a nice season, is one of a handful of players averaging a double-double (10 & 10) and continues to be a solid fantasy center option when healthy.

Fri Nov 23 201214:28J.J. Hickson (shoulder) will start on Friday
J.J. Hickson (shoulder) will start for the Blazers on Friday.
Hickson is averaging 10.3 points and 10.6 rebounds in under 29 minutes per game this season, though his value is diminished by sub-part FT shooting (65 percent) and his typical lack of steals (0.5) or blocks (0.5). His return will send Meyers Leonard back to the bench, so use him as you have been.

Fri Nov 23 201213:35J.J. Hickson (shoulder) questionable Friday
J.J. Hickson (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Friday's game.
Hickson did not play on Wednesday, but he said that he expected to play on Friday. Meyers Leonard is listed as the projected starter for Friday's game, so Hickson owners will need to wait for another update to learn whether or not he'll play.

J.J. Hickson said it wasn't his decision on not to play on Wednesday and he was ready to "give it a go."
Hickson expects to play on Friday against the Wolves. He's still worth owning in all leagues, but Meyers Leonard's nice game on Wednesday may make his owners a bit uneasy.

Wed Nov 21 201220:18J.J. Hickson out Wednesday, Leonard starts
J.J. Hickson (shoulder) will not play on Wednesday night against the Suns.
Meyers Leonard is going to get the start for the Blazers and we should get a pretty good look at him tonight. Leonard doesn't have much diversity to his game, but a strong showing could eventually mean he may push a healthy Hickson for minutes.

Wed Nov 21 201219:41Hix (shoulder) likely out; Leonard to start
J.J. Hickson (shoulder) is likely going to be inactive on Wednesday against the Suns, and rookie Meyers Leonard will draw the start.
Leonard is still alternating mostly bad games with good ones, but he could be worth a look as a spot play in deeper formats tonight.

Wed Nov 21 201215:08J.J. Hickson a game-time decision Wednesday
J.J. Hickson apparently hurt his left shoulder Sunday and Terry Stotts called him a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against the Suns.
The injury doesn't sound serious and Hickson admitted he's simply being cautious. Stay tuned for updates closer to tipoff, but Joel Freeland and Meyers Leonard would see a definite boost Wednesday is Hickson were sidelined.

Sat Nov 17 201203:36Hickson scores three points with seven rebs
J.J. Hickson scored three points on 1-of-2 shooting with seven rebounds in 25 minutes on Friday against the Rockets.
Hickson's problem in fantasy leagues has been a diluted field goal percentage and his lack of defensive stats. That problem became exasperated tonight when Meyers Leonard (eight and eight with one steal, one block) replaced him late. We doubt there is a changing of the guard here, but Hickson needs to do a bit more going forward to keep his role intact. He's providing very low-end value in 12-team formats, but the lack of depth in Portland and his chance of improving his 47.5 FG% are reasons to hang on.

Wed Nov 14 201200:28J.J. Hickson racks up another double-double
J.J. Hickson had 10 points, 13 rebounds and zero blocks in Tuesday's easy win over the Kings.
Hickson has double-doubled in three straight and five games this season, but has amassed just five blocks in eight games. Even with the mediocre blocks he's still a top fantasy center and was a nice value pick in drafts.

Tue Nov 13 201205:17Hickson goes for career-best 19 & 18 vs. ATL
J.J. Hickson scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting with 18 rebounds, two steals, and one block over 33 minutes in the Blazers' 95-87 loss to the Hawks on Monday.
Hickson had the Blazer fans chirping about his solid outing tonight, and the only thing keeping fantasy owners from chirping are his matching 0.7 per game marks in steals and blocks. He may be able to improve on his 47.1 percent field goal mark after shooting 54.3 percent in 19 games for the Blazers last season, but his 48.9 percent career mark suggests we shouldn't get too optimistic. We're guessing he splits the difference and holds solid late round value for most of the year.

Sun Nov 11 201200:59Hickson pulls down 14 boards in double-double
J.J. Hickson had a double-double on Saturday with 13 points and 14 boards in 34 minutes.
Just when it looked like Meyers Leonard could cut into Hickson's value, J.J. goes off by shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Hopefully you didn't hastily cut him and it looks like he's a must-own player in standard leagues.

Fri Nov 9 201201:27Hickson only plays 23 minutes on Thursday
J.J. Hickson had a sub-par game in the start on Thursday with just five points and five boards in 23 minutes against the Clippers.
He wasn't in foul trouble tonight, which has been his bugaboo so far this year. While we still like Hickson to hold down the starting gig and flirt with a double-double average, Meyers Leonard's coming out party does put some doubt into his value. If you're going cut him, it had better be for a red-hot free agent, though.

Sat Nov 3 201204:09Hickson double-doubles in limited minutes
J.J. Hickson shook off some early foul trouble to double-double on Friday against the Thunder, scoring 14 points on 5-of-12 shooting with 12 rebounds and one assist in 26 minutes.
It would have been nice to see a steal or block, but this is yet another example that Hickson is going to be fairly automatic this season.

Thu Nov 1 201203:30J.J. Hickson double-doubles in opener
J.J. Hickson had 13 points, 10 rebounds, a steal and two blocks in 25 minutes on Wednesday.
The fact he did this against Dwight Howard is notable and Hickson is worth owning in all leagues, as he is locked into the starting C job for the Blazers this year.
