Fri Nov 30 201218:00Yanks, Nix avoid arbitration with 1-year deal
Yankees and INF Jayson Nix avoided arbitration by agreeing to a contract.
No word yet on the exact terms, but it doesn't figure to be for much, as Nix was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter. The 30-year-old batted .243/.306/.384 with four homers and a .690 OPS in 74 games with the Bombers this past season and will likely function as a backup infielder again next season.

Mon Oct 15 201209:45Jayson Nix goes 0-for-3 in ALCS Game 2
Jayson Nix went 0-for-3 in the Yankees' ALCS Game 2 loss to the Tigers on Sunday in New York.
Nix is serving as the Yankees' starting shortstop in the absence of Derek Jeter (ankle) but could be in danger of being replaced by Eduardo Nunez if he fails to produce at the plate. Nix batted .243/.306/.384 with four homers and 18 RBI in 74 games during the regular season.

Sun Oct 14 201208:32Jayson Nix will be Yankees' shortstop
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Jayson Nix will be the team's starting shortstop for the remainder of the postseason with Derek Jeter (ankle) out.
Eduardo Nunez will be added to the roster to take the spot of Jeter, who fractured his left ankle in the 12th inning of Saturday's loss to the Tigers. Nix, 30, had a couple hits in his lone start this postseason, but he's a career .214/.285/.371 hitter over parts of five major league seasons. Obviously, it's not an ideal situation for the Yanks.

Sat Oct 6 201218:26Jayson Nix expected to make ALDS roster
Jayson Nix is expected to be a part of the Yankees' roster for their ALDS series against the Orioles.
Manager Joe Girardi hasn't announced the roster yet, but Andruw Jones, Casey McGehee and Chris Dickerson have already been told that they will not be a part of it. Unless they elect to carry Melky Mesa or a third catcher, Nix seems like the most logical option to claim the final bench spot.

Sun Sep 30 201211:22Jayson Nix (hip flexor) to miss 10-14 days
MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports Jayson Nix will miss 10-14 days with a strained left hip flexor.
The injury rules him out for the Yankees' final four games, and it's possible Nix won't be added to the postseason roster. With Nix out, Eduardo Nunez will serve as the primary backup at shortstop and second base.

Jayson Nix will have an MRI on his left hip Saturday.
The severity of the injury, or when it occurred, isn't yet known, but Nix may have been injured filling in for Alex Rodriguez on Thursday. With Nix out, Eduardo Nunez will serve as the Yankees' primary utility infielder.

Sat May 12 201218:47Nix two-run blast helps lead Yanks over M's
Jayson Nix connected on his first home run of the season Saturday in New York, helping to lead the Yankees to a 6-2 victory over the Mariners.
Nix went yard off Hector Noesi in the second inning. He has been used very sparingly in the early part of the season and is doubtful to suddenly gain fantasy relevance.

Thu May 3 201212:21Yankees promote Jayson Nix
Yankees purchased the contract of INF Jayson Nix from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
With Eric Chavez ailing, the Yanks needed to add some emergency infield depth. Nix was batting .233/.314/.367 at the Triple-A level. He won't carry any fantasy value.

Wed Nov 23 201121:23Yankees sign INF Jayson Nix to minors deal
Yankees signed INF Jayson Nix to a minor league contract.
Nix, 29, batted just .169/.245/.309 over 136 at-bats in 2011. The deal with the Yanks includes an invitation to spring training, but Nix will be in minor league camp.

Fri Jul 8 201109:24Jayson Nix sent to Triple-A Las Vegas
Blue Jays sent INF Jayson Nix outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Designated for assignment last weekend, Nix and his .169 average passed through waivers unclaimed. There's a good chance he'll be back with the Jays at some point this summer, but he obviously won't be worth a look in AL-only leagues.

Tue May 3 201120:29Jayson Nix having trouble moving laterally
Jayson Nix (shin) is having issues with lateral movement.
He's able to take batting practice, but it sounds like fielding is still an issue. Blue Jays manager John Farrell thinks Nix is about a week behind Aaron Hill (hamstring), meaning a mid-May return seems likely.

Sun May 1 201115:51Jayson Nix coming along slowly
Jayson Nix's (shin) progress is coming along slowly but surely.
"He is making steady progress," Farrell said. "He's taking ground balls, he's starting to take [batting practice]. How quickly he can get into his normal range laterally is really the one thing we're keying in on right now." Nix figures to return around mid-May.

Sat Apr 23 201110:30Jayson Nix lands on DL
Blue Jays placed 3B Jayson Nix on the 15-day disabled list with a left shin contusion.
The Jays said Friday that the injury was to his knee, but evidently that wasn't the case. He seems likely to be ready when eligible to return from the DL. With Aaron Hill also banged up, Toronto is running short on infielders. Mike McCoy was recalled to take Nix's spot on the roster.

Fri Apr 22 201123:25X-rays on Nix's knee come back negative
X-rays on Jayson Nix's left knee came back negative.
Nix is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday morning to look for any other damage. He left Friday's game in the second inning after Sean Rodriguez slid into him at second base while attempting to break up a double play. The Blue Jays had the last laugh, though, as Nix's replacement John McDonald hit a walk-off homer to win the game.

Fri Apr 22 201119:51Jayson Nix leaves with ankle injury
Jayson Nix left Friday's game with an ankle injury after Sean Rodriguez slid into him to break up a double play.
The slide looked borderline malicious, and it means the Jays are down to one backup infielder with Aaron Hill also hurt. John McDonald replaced Nix at second base.

Sat Apr 9 201102:34Nix hits tiebreaking homer in Jays' win
Jayson Nix homered in the top of the eighth to lead the Jays to a 3-2 win over the Indians on Friday.
With two homers already, Nix's roster spot should be safe upon Corey Patterson's return from the DL next week. Mike McCoy figures to be the odd man out then. Nix is far superior to Edwin Encarnacion defensively at third base, so the Jays will keep looking for ways to mix him in.

Sat Apr 2 201115:51Jayson Nix homers in win over Twins
Jayson Nix slugged a solo homer and walked twice in Saturday's win over the Twins.
Nix, who was acquired from the Indians earlier this week, got the start at third base this afternoon, while Edwin Encarnacion was the designated hitter. The 28-year-old has a .215 career batting average in the big leagues, so expectations aren't high, but his pop could play well in his new surroundings. With eligibility at second and third base in most formats, he could be a sneaky find in AL-only leagues.

Mon Dec 20 201014:55Jayson Nix's third base development stalled
Jayson Nix recently missed nine games of winter ball in Puerto Rico after being hit in the head with a pitch.
The good news is that he appears to now be OK and has resumed playing. The Indians sent Nix to Puerto Rico in order for him to gain more experience playing third base, where he is a contender for a starting spot in 2011. He made 11 errors in 40 games at third base down the stretch, so he needs all the development time at the hot corner that he can get.
