Mon Jan 30 201216:28Chuck Hayes expected to be OK
Chuck Hayes (shoulder) is expected to be ready for Tuesday's game against the Warriors.
Hayes appeared to aggravate his troublesome left shoulder in the final seconds of Saturday night's loss, but it sounds like there was more pain than damage done. "(Hayes) just got treatment [Sunday] but I think he's going to be OK and ready to go," said coach Keith Smart. Hayes played 20 minutes off the bench on Saturday.

Sun Jan 29 201200:00Chuck Hayes aggravates injury in return
Chuck Hayes returned from a shoulder injury on Saturday and had eight rebounds in 20 minutes before leaving with another shoulder injury.
He appeared to aggravate his left shoulder injury, was in extremem pain and was helped to the locker room. He could easily be put back on the shelf with the injury, meaning Jason Thompson could continue to start for the Kings. We'll have more information on Sunday and Monday, but don't count on Hayes being out there for the Kings when they play on Tuesday at Golden State.

Sat Jan 28 201219:56Hayes set to return Saturday for Kings
Chuck Hayes will play off the bench on Saturday after missing several weeks with a shoulder injury.
The front court is still crowded in Sacramento and Hayes was averaging six points and eight boards before going down. Hayes isn't a must-own player, but could have some decent value if and when he regains his starting job.

Wed Jan 25 201215:33Chuck Hayes (shoulder) won't play vs. Nuggets
Chuck Hayes (shoulder) is nearing a return but will not play vs. the Nuggets on Wednesday.
Hayes has resumed shooting and contact drills, and once healthy he should command heavy playing time at both PF and C for new coach Keith Smart. At the very least, his return will officially spoil whatever value J.J. Hickson and Jason Thompson have scrounged up in his absence.

Fri Jan 20 201220:05Chuck Hayes progressing well in his return
Chuck Hayes could miss over a week due to his shoulder injury, but coach Keith Smart is pleased by his progress.
"He did a lot of shooting last night," Smart said. "He went through the whole program, and probably another couple of days or so he'll get on the floor and do some things. We'll mix in some contact here and there. Last night was a good sign. He wasn't too sore today. He's able to sleep now and not have any pain." Hayes is the prohibitive favorite to start and play 30-plus minutes per game, so consider adding him if you need a big man in the coming days.

Fri Jan 13 201214:38Chuck Hayes starts rehab work on shoulder
Chuck Hayes is doing about 90 minutes of conditioning a day and has started range-of-motion work on his left shoulder that was dislocated last week.
Hayes is 2-3 weeks away and will return to a crowded Kings' frontcourt. Additionally, he will have to earn back much of his playing time as DeMarcus Cousins and J.J. Hickson have fared well up front for Sacramento since new head coach Keith Smart took over.

Tue Jan 10 201218:28Chuck Hayes to be re-evaluated in two weeks
Chuck Hayes (shoulder) will be limited to just conditioning for two weeks before being re-evaluated.
Hayes' initial timetable was 3-4 weeks, so this news jives with the previous report. In the mean time, J.J. Hickson will serve as the starting power forward and owners looking for a short-term fix in the big man department should snag him off the waiver wire if he's somehow still available.

Fri Jan 6 201215:37Chuck Hayes (shoulder) out 3-4 weeks
The Kings have announced that Chuck Hayes will miss three-to-four weeks with a left shoulder separation.
Hayes will be out for close to a month and DeMarcus Cousins looks to be the biggest beneficiary. Cousins should really turn it on with Paul Westphal let go on Thursday and Hayes now out. J.J. Hickson grabbed 11 boards and scored seven points in 25 minutes on Thursday night and should also benefit. Hickson is the one to grab over Jason Thompson if you need to hit the wire for a Hayes replacement.

Fri Jan 6 201200:52Report: Chuck Hayes (shoulder) out 2-3 weeks
Chuck Hayes (shoulder) told beat writer James Ham that he would miss 2-3 weeks after Thursday's win over the Bucks.
Hayes will likely return to a significant role when he returns, and neither J.J. Hickson nor Jason Thompson is favored to "Pipp" him, though it's not out of the question. If you need a big man and cannot replace Hayes on the wire, you can look at keeping him, but otherwise holding him at the expense of a sure-fire free agent doesn't make sense. Hayes is a decent bet to hold value down the road, however.

Thu Jan 5 201223:09Chuck Hayes leaves with dislocated shoulder
Chuck Hayes left Thursday's game during the second quarter due to a dislocated shoulder and his return is questionable.
We don't know the severity of the injury and we're hesitant to call J.J. Hickson anything but a speculative add in 12-team leagues right now. Hickson has not separated from Jason Thompson, and under Paul Westphal the two would have split minutes at 60:40 ratio, respectively. Under Keith Smart all bets are off, though we'd expect a similar split. Knowing Hickson will be the fourth or fifth banana, regardless, we need Hayes' status before getting more aggressive here.

Thu Jan 5 201222:17Hayes starts Thursday at power forward
Chuck Hayes started at power forward with DeMarcus Cousins moving back to center on Thursday.
J.J. Hickson goes back to the bench where he will struggle to hold deep league value, and Hayes is favored to get back on track after a couple of off-nights manning the center slot.

Thu Jan 5 201201:03Hayes plays just 22 minutes on Wednesday
Chuck Hayes played just 22 minutes in Wednesday's blowout loss, scoring six points on 2-of-4 shooting with five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Hayes has been a part of the problem, though his problems are a bit more forgivable than some of his teammates' issues. Hayes hasn't produced well enough to stick in lineups lately, and while we're not 100 percent opposed to dropping him for the right free agent in 12-team 8-cat leagues, we fully expect him to get on track.

Sun Jan 1 201223:25Chuck Hayes solid in start at center for SAC
Chuck Hayes slid over the center on Sunday, with DeMarcus Cousins away from the team, and finished with six points, 10 rebounds, three assists, one steals and zero turnovers in 36 minutes.
Hayes is just 6'6" but he's strong as an ox and has pristine fundamentals, allowing him to combat bigger and more athletic players. His value to the Kings exceeds his fantasy value, but he's still worth rostering in most leagues whether he's starting at PF or C.

Fri Dec 30 201103:25Hayes called best offensive player on Thu
Chuck Hayes scored seven points on 3-of-8 shooting with 10 rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 34 minutes before fouling out against the Bulls on Thursday.
Beat writer Jason Jones called him the Kings' best offensive player, and it's beginning to look a lot like last season when Hayes needed to be owned in all 8- and 9-cat leagues. Unless you're stocked at the big man slots, Hayes is taking on the appearance of a must-own player.

Wed Dec 28 201101:48Hayes grabs 11 boards in loss to Blazers
Chuck Hayes grabbed 11 rebounds against the Blazers on Tuesday, and added four points on 2-of-5 shooting with no other statistics.
Hayes played 26 minutes, but we did notice him pretty winded when he let old man Kurt Thomas get behind him on a fast break. Considering the Kings all fell apart in the second half, Hayes' mediocre stats don't stand out all that much. Hayes is still worth an add if a slightly muted version of last year's production can help you.

Tue Dec 27 201118:49Westphal likes the rotation he used Monday
Paul Westphal indicated after Monday's game that he likes the lineup and rotation he used in their win over the Lakers.
That means Chuck Hayes is in store for 27-30+ mpg, Tyreke Evans and Marcus Thornton have full workloads as starters, DeMarcus Cousins will play as long as he can before fouling out, J.J. Hickson and Jimmer Fredette will play about 25 minutes off the bench, and John Salmons will play about 30 mpg. Hayes is worth a long look in leagues that value his versatility, and the rest can have projections assessed respectively.

Tue Dec 27 201103:32Hayes plays 27 minutes in Kings debut
Chuck Hayes started and played 27 minutes in his Kings debut on Monday, scoring seven points on 3-of-5 shooting with nine rebounds, three assists, and three blocks.
We have liked Hayes to start and play this many minutes, because aside from his elite defense and above-average passing he provides a mental game that the Kings' current starting five lacks -- particularly in the frontcourt. Look for Jason Thompson to be minimized and J.J. Hickson to be Hayes' backup all season long. As for Hayes, this production can continue and adding him in those leagues that value his versatility makes perfect sense.

Fri Dec 23 201117:07Hayes roller coaster ends with starting gig
On Friday, Kings head coach Paul Westphal announced that his starting lineup to start the season will be DeMarcus Cousins, Chuck Hayes, John Salmons, Marcus Thornton and Tyreke Evans.
Hayes has had the most extreme roller coaster of weeks, having his initial four year/$21 million contract with the Kings voided because of a heart condition, then getting clearance from a group of doctors at the Cleveland Clinic to continue his basketball career and finally netting a four year/$22 million offer to come back to Sacramento, which is his hometown. With today's announcement from Westphal that Hayes will be starting to begin the season, the emotional high he is on right now is probably sky high.

Fri Dec 23 201113:45Doctors evaluating Hayes give him thumbs up
Doctors performing the second review of Chuck Hayes' heart condition from the Cleveland Clinic hesitated to call it an abnormality and spoke glowingly about his physical condition.
If you're a Kings fan or a deep league owner hoping for some of the old magic you may want to click the link, but in short he's healthy and ready to go. Look for Hayes to eventually start and play 20-30 minutes, as the Kings are enamored with him and for good reason. The elite defender is a willing passer and can add some smarts to a sometimes dimwitted cast. Hayes, J.J. Hickson, and especially Jason Thompson cancel each other out in fantasy land.
