He was cleared to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. Quintanilla predictably struggled during his brief stint with the Rangers, going 1-for-22 (.045) with one triple, two RBI and nine strikeouts.

Rangers purchased the contract of INF Omar Quintanilla from Triple-A Round Rock.
He'll replace the injured Andres Blanco on the active roster. Quintanilla, 29, was batting .298/.369/.452 with five homers and 25 RBI in the hitter-friendly PCL, but he's a .220 career hitter over 559 plate appearances in the majors.

Rangers signed INF Omar Quinanilla to a minor league contract.
Quintanilla was suspended 50 games in August for a positive PED test, so he won't be a candidate to make the Rangers' opening day roster. He'll provide depth at Triple-A once he's finished serving the suspension.

Omar Quintanilla has been suspended 50 games for a positive PED test.
Quintanilla is currently rehabbing from elbow surgery down at the Triple-A level and probably wouldn't have played again this year anyway. He was batting .252/.316/.353 in 119 at-bats before the procedure.

Omar Quintanilla underwent arthroscopic surgery Monday to remove loose bodies from his right elbow.
He'll be sidelined for the next four to six weeks, which means that he is likely out for the rest of the minor league season. Quintanilla missed the first two months of the season, but was batting .252/.316/.353 with one home run and 15 RBI in 119 at-bats with Triple-A Colorado Springs.
