Fri Aug 6 201014:16Reds GM unsure whether Guillen fits
Reds GM Walt Jocketty said he wasn't sure whether Jose Guillen could be a fit for the Reds.
We doubt it. The Reds already have a better version of Guillen in Jonny Gomes. They even have the same initials. The Giants appear to have the most interest in Guillen.

Fri Aug 6 201008:46Yankees to track Jose Guillen
According to George A. King III of the New York Post, the Yankees are expected to "track" Jose Guillen, who was designated for assignment by the Royals on Thursday.
Guillen is essentially limited to DH duty at this point, so the Bombers would have to decide whether he would be an upgrade over Marcus Thames or Austin Kearns. It doesn't appear that he is worth the hassle, but he'll likely find a home with a contender.

Thu Aug 5 201017:50Giants are 'discussing' Royals' Jose Guillen
Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the Giants are "discussing" Royals outfielder Jose Guillen.
The struggling and overpaid Guillen was designated for assignment by Kansas City on Thursday afternoon after batting .255/.314/.429 over 396 at-bats and .151/.198/.260 after the All-Star break. He's a liability in the outfield and would not do well in San Francisco's spacious AT&T Park, but the Giants want to beef up their bench and Guillen at least boasts a hint of power. The Royals should part with him easily.

Thu Aug 5 201013:57Royals designate Guillen for assignment
Royals designated OF/DH Jose Guillen for assignment.
Good for the Royals for having some guts and cutting Guillen loose. The veteran has been struggling mightily lately, and even if he had been playing well, it would behoove the Royals to focus on their younger players and not give Guillen much playing time. This news is great for Kila Ka'aihue, who should find regular playing time at first base now, with Billy Butler shifting to DH. Mitch Maier and Gregor Blanco should see a bump in playing time, as well. If KC is unable to trade him, look for Guillen to sign on with a contender in need of a bat (Giants?).
Fri Jul 30 201017:34Royals not progressing in Guillen talks
ESPN's Jayson Stark hears that the Royals have made no progress in trade talks involving Jose Guillen, Kyle Farnsworth, Brian Bannister or Willie Bloomquist.
We wouldn't be surprised to see Farnsworth or Bloomquist go at the last minute. Guillen might be involved in an August deal.

Tue Jul 27 201013:39Royals struggling to find suitor for Guillen
Jayson Stark heard from a source Tuesday that the Royals are struggling to find a trade partner for outfielder Jose Guillen.
It's not all that surprising, really. Guillen is 34, is no longer considered an adequate defender and is batting just .226/.286/.387 in the month of July. Oh, and he's earning $12 million this season. If the Royals want to get rid of him, it will have to be in a straight salary dump move.

Fri Jul 23 201020:42Several teams have interest in Jose Guillen
A source tells Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Padres and Giants all have at least a "passing interest" in Jose Guillen.
With Kila Ka'aihue waiting in the wings, the Royals should have plenty of incentive to get Guillen out the door. Fortunately, the 34-year-old is enjoying a nice season, batting .279/.342/.463 with 15 homers and 57 RBI. That being said, we don't see a realistic fit with most of the teams mentioned above.

Fri Jul 23 201010:54Report: Giants scouted Jose Guillen
Buster Olney of ESPN.com hears that the Giants scouted Jose Guillen on Thursday night.
Guillen is pretty bad defensively, but could be used in tandem with Pat Burrell in left field. It isn't an ideal platoon on the surface, because both hitters are right-handed, but Guillen actually hits right-handed pitching better than he does southpaws.

Fri Jul 16 201011:35Giants more likely to get Guillen from Royals
Chris Haft of MLB.com reports that the Giants may have a better chance of acquiring Jose Guillen than David DeJesus.
This shouldn't really be a surprise. DeJesus will cost considerably more in the way of prospects than Guillen, who will be a free agent after the season.

Sat Jul 10 201009:54Guillen's quad injury shows improvement
Jose Guillen (quad) showed enough improvement that he was nearly in Friday's lineup.
He took part in some early drills before manager Ned Yost opted to give him at least one more day. "When he went to hit (in the indoor cages)," Yost said, "he didn't feel anything. When he ran, he felt better, but he still feels a little weak. So we'll see (tonight) and re-evaluate. He's making great progress." Guillen suffered the injury on Tuesday while running out a grounder.

Fri Jul 9 201018:33Royals' Guillen out of Friday's lineup
Jose Guillen (quad) is out of Friday's lineup against the White Sox.
Guillen continues to be sidelined with a strained left quad. He hasn't played since leaving Tuesday. Willie Bloomquist will be the DH on Friday.

Wed Jul 7 201021:01Guillen has Grade 1 strain of his left quad
Jose Guillen has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain in his left quad.
Guillen suffered the injury during Tuesday's game against the Mariners and is expected to rest until Friday. The impending free agent and possible trade deadline target is batting .274/.336/.453 with 14 homers and 52 RBI.

Wed Jul 7 201010:20Royals' day-to-day with quad injury
Jose Guillen is day-to-day after leaving Tuesday's game against the Mariners with a quad injury.
Guillen pulled up lame while legging out a groundball during the eighth inning on Tuesday. Royals manager Ned Yost said that there was apparently no tear in his quad, but that he would be re-evaluated Wednesday.

Fri Jul 2 201009:35Moore not concerned by Guillen's comments
Royals general manager Dayton Moore isn't concerned by Jose Guillen's recent criticism of the team.
Guillen told Fox Sports Kansas City on Wednesday that the Royals are fundamentally "one of the worst teams in all of baseball," a statement that could help punch his ticket out of town. If the Royals are upset, you wouldn't know it by what Moore's reaction. "I read it, and I took it as a positive," said Moore. "I know Jose's spoken this way in the past, but I know for a fact that he's over that because we've talked about it. I do know from the conversations we've had that he's happy about being here." This is probably the worst time to start a conflict with Guillen, as the Royals will hope to trade him this month.

Mon Jun 28 201014:34Report: Royals 'pushing to move' Jose Guillen
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Royals are "pushing to move" Jose Guillen and are willing to eat "a lot of dollars."
Guillen came roaring out of the gates this season with .946 OPS and seven home runs in the month of April. He has since slowed down, but plenty of teams are looking for pop and he can most definitely provide it when he's not chasing pitches. The 34-year-old outfielder is earning $12 million this season and will be a free agent once the year is through.

Sat Jun 26 201015:10Guillen bothered by foot blisters
Jose Guillen said he's not hitting for power of late because of foot blisters.
Guillen believes the problem is a lingering remnant of the blood clots he had in his legs over the winter. "It's been hard for me lately because I've been playing with blisters on my [left] foot. It's hard for me to put weight on my foot and create power," Guillen said. "I've said I've become slappy because I'm not able to put weight on my foot." Guillen intends to keep playing. He was in the lineup as a DH on Saturday.

Fri May 21 201023:31Jose Guillen goes yard twice in win
Jose Guillen smacked two home runs off Jason Hammel in Friday's 9-2 win over the Rockies.
Guillen, who homered in his final at-bat on Thursday, has now homered in three straight at-bats. We're not too excited about it, though. Guillen is a strikeout machine that doesn't steal bags and is a liability in batting average. His power streaks are too infrequent.
Thu May 20 201014:45Royals' Guillen hits two-run homer
Jose Guillen had a two-run homer and an RBI single versus the Indians on Thursday.
The homer, his first in 16 days, came off Rule 5 pick Hector Ambriz. Guillen has been awful this month, but the Royals have kept playing him regularly and batting him fifth. They're still hoping someone will take him off their hands come June or July.
Tue May 4 201000:59Royals' Guillen goes 0-for-4
Jose Guillen went hitless Monday and is in a 2-for-25 slump over his last seven games.
Despite his hot start, Guillen has already struck out 26 times in 26 games this year. That's unusual for him, even in his poor years. His career high for strikeouts is 118 and that came in 153 games. In his previous two years with the Royals, he fanned 156 times in 234 games. At the very least, it suggests that his strong early batting average is a mirage. He may continue to hit for pretty good power, but he's a two-category fantasy outfielder at best.
Sun Apr 25 201017:32Royals' Guillen homers again
Jose Guillen took Twins starter Kevin Slowey deep for a solo shot on Sunday.
The walk-year extravaganza continues. Guillen also added a sacrifice fly in the outing and is now batting .351 with seven homers and 17 RBI. The pace certainly won't continue, but Guillen was likely undervalued in spring drafts and he could remain a mixed league option all year.
