Wed May 21 201417:04Chris Young allows four runs to Rangers
Chris Young yielded four runs over 6 1/3 innings in the Mariners' loss to the Rangers on Wednesday.
Young also got roughed up Friday against the Twins and has watched his ERA jump from 2.63 (on May 10) to 3.53 in just two outings. We would expect the regression to continue for the 34-year-old right-hander, who faces the Angels at Safeco Field next time out.

Fri May 16 201422:57Young gives up five runs in loss to Twins
Chris Young gave the Mariners seven innings on Friday, but surrendered five runs on 10 hits in a losing effort against the Twins on Friday.
Young walked one and didn't record a strikeout in the game. While it's nice to have an effective innings-eater, Young was far too hittable to have success in this one. The Twins got on the board with a pair of runs in the third inning, then added single runs on solo homers by Josmil Pinto in the fourth and Brian Dozier in the fifth innings. He'll head into Thursday's matchup against the Astros with a 3.22 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 18/17 K/BB ratio through 44 2/3 frames.

Sat May 10 201423:35Chris Young dominates Royals, moves to 3-0
Chris Young tossed eight innings of one-run ball to guide the Mariners past the Royals on Saturday.
Young dominated the Kansas City lineup, letting up only three hits and striking out three batters without issuing a walk. The tall veteran right-hander is now 3-0 with a 2.63 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 37 2/3 innings this season, and makes sense as a matchup-to-matchup play for the time being in mixed fantasy leagues. His scheduled start next week at Target Field looks promising.

Tue May 6 201400:55Young holds A's to 2 runs, improves to 2-0
Chris Young moved to 2-0 against the A's on Monday, allowing two runs on three hits across six innings.
He struck out a pair and walked two more. The gravity defying 6-foot-10 right-hander has been getting by on so much smoke and mirrors that one assumes he's only listening to Lil Wayne and Justin Timberlake. Despite a gross 15/16 K/BB rate, Young is 2-0 with a 3.03 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. How long can he keep fooling them? Stay tuned. The grizzled vet hosts young gun Yordano Ventura, a pitcher who requires no deception, and the Royals on Saturday.

Wed Apr 30 201400:17Chris Young good enough to pick up win
Chris Young wasn't great but was good enough to pick up his first win as a Mariner Tuesday, holding the Yankees to two runs -- one earned -- over 5 2/3 frames in a 6-3 victory.
Young yielded just three hits, but one of them was a home run and he also walked three. However, for an extreme flyball pitcher, getting through a start at Yankee stadium with just one earned run allowed is a pretty solid feat. While he has an ugly 13/14 K/BB ratio, Young's 3.04 ERA and 1.35 WHIP to this point is as good as the M's could have hoped for. He'll get Houston on the road Sunday.

Fri Apr 18 201422:24Chris Young blasted by Marlins in no-decision
Chris Young was hit hard in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday, allowing four runs on seven hits in just three innings.
Young also issued three free passes and didn't strike out a batter. While his 3.27 ERA looks alright, he has struggled with his command, posting a 1.55 WHIP and 4/6 K/BB ratio through his first 11 innings. He's probably best left on the waiver wire, even with a juicy matchup at home against the Astros on tap for Wednesday.

Sun Apr 13 201419:34Young tosses six scoreless in no-decision
Chris Young threw six scoreless innings but didn't factor in the decision Sunday against the Athletics.
Young gave up just four hits and three walks, striking out two. He was matched every step of the way by Athletics starter Scott Kazmir, though, so he settled for a no-decision. He's now thrown eight shutout innings to start the year after joining the Mariners just prior to the season. He'll have a good shot at another strong outing when the Mariners visit the Marlins next weekend.

Sat Mar 29 201418:32Young goes 4 2/3 spotless in Mariners debut
Chris Young pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings in his first spring start for the Mariners on Saturday.
Young showed why the team signed him to a $1.25 million contract on Thursday, allowing just four hits and no walks in the outing. Young also struck out two. Back in the major leagues, the 34-year-old has a shot to stick in the M's rotation even after Hisashi Iwakuma and Taijuan Walker return.

Wed Nov 20 201311:55Young has thoracic outlet syndrome surgery
Chris Young recently underwent surgery to repair thoracic outlet syndrome.
The ailment, which puts puts pressure on a pitcher's shoulder, was only recently recognized. However, it's not surprising to hear after Young was limited to just seven starts with Triple-A Syracuse this past season due to pain in his neck and shoulder area. The 34-year-old feels good about his arm strength now and was brought back on a minor league deal by the Nationals earlier this week.

Chris Young was touched up for six runs over 4 1/3 innings Tuesday in his first start for Triple-A Syracuse.
The tall right-hander allowed nine hits -- including three home runs -- while walking three. Obviously it's not an ideal outing for Young, but he'll be fine as long as he's healthy. He represents a backup option if Dan Haren can't get straightened out.

Thu Apr 4 201319:57Chris Young could earn up to $4.7M
Chris Young will earn a prorated $2 million if the Nationals call him up, with a possible total of $4.7 million in incentives.
It's no wonder he decided to re-sign, as that could potentially be a pretty nice deal. Young posted a 2.25 ERA over four starts this spring and represents nice depth in the minors, though, of course, he's not a good bet to stay healthy.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson was in attendance for Chris Young's start on Monday.
Young was released by the Nationals on Tuesday after posting a 2.25 ERA over four starts this spring. The veteran right-hander could be a natural fit to return to the Mets, especially if Shaun Marcum (neck) and/or Jeremy Hefner (elbow) need to miss extended time.
