Sat May 26 201201:10Brandon League blows fourth save
Brandon League surrendered three runs -- two earned -- in an inning while blowing his fourth save Friday night against the Angels.
League's own error led to the game-tying run, and then he gave up two more runs after intentionally walking Kole Calhoun to face pinch-hitter Howie Kendrick. League had an awful run last May, recovered and put together a great season for the Mariners. The team will hope the same thing happens this year. He's really struggling at the moment, but if he's pulled from the closer's role, it figures to be a temporary measure.

Mon Apr 30 201223:07Brandon League blows save
Brandon League blew his second save of the season Monday, coughing up the lead in the 11th against the Rays before allowing the winning run in the 12th.
It's a rough showing from League, who has been one of the best fantasy closers to this point in the season. He's now 7-for-9 in save opportunities, and his ERA went from 1.54 to 2.77. We still like him to be a fine fantasy option, as long as he isn't traded to a contender to be a setup man.

Fri Apr 20 201201:07Brandon League blows save, takes loss
After Felix Hernandez went eight scoreless innings, Brandon League took a blown save and a loss Thursday, giving up two runs to the Indians in the ninth.
League had walked just one over seven scoreless innings to start the season, but he issued two tonight and the Indians made him pay for them with a couple of singles. It was League's first blown save since last Aug. 23, also against Cleveland. In fact, three of his six blown saves since the beginning of 2011 have come versus the Indians.

Tue Jan 17 201210:49Mariners, League avoid arbitration at $5M
The Mariners and RHP Brandon League avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract.
The Mariners might still be shopping League, but they've agreed to a salary for 2012 anyway to avoid the complications of an arbitration hearing. He posted a 2.79 ERA and 45/10 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings last season.

Fri Jan 13 201219:03M's close to trade for 'young impact hitter'
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com, the Mariners are close to a trade for a "young impact hitter."
No word on which team they are talking to, but Crasnick was told that it is a "significant trade" and that closer Brandon League is not part of the return package. The Mariners finished dead last in the majors last season with 556 runs scored and haven't made any major additions to their offense this winter.

Wed Dec 21 201115:28Report: Brandon League drawing trade interest
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com writes that "a number of teams" have called the Mariners to express interest in closer Brandon League.
The Reds, Red Sox and Angels are interested in acquiring a closer, but it's not known whether any of them have had serious talks with the Mariners about League. The Dodgers inquired during the winter meetings, but their interest isn't believed to be serious. League, 28, earned $2.5 million this past season while posting a 2.79 ERA, 37 saves and a 45/10 K/BB ratio over 61 1/3 innings. He is set to become a free agent next offseason, so even if the Mariners don't trade him right now, he will likely end up on the block eventually.

Tue Dec 6 201115:39Angels have trade interest in Brandon League
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Angels have trade interest in the Mariners' Brandon League.
League, 28, posted a stellar 2.79 ERA and 45/10 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings this past season for Seattle. He's due a raise over the $2.5 million he earned via arbitration in 2011, however, so the M's may be looking at this as an opportunity to both dump salary and acquire prospects to bolster their farm system. It doesn't sound like a deal is close.

Tue Sep 20 201123:37League earns 35th save of the season
Brandon League picked up his 35th save of the season despite a shaky ninth inning in Tuesday's victory over the Twins.
You can chalk this one up to Minnesota's offensive ineptitude. League entered with a 5-4 lead and promptly loaded the bases with no outs, giving up back-to-back singles and committing a throwing error on Trevor Plouffe's sacrifice bunt. League then struck out Michael Cuddyer and induced a pair of grounders to end the game. The 28-year-old reliever has been dominant for much of this season. He's only allowed four earned runs since May 14, blowing two saves in that span.

Brandon League picked up his 33rd save of the season in Tuesday's victory over the Angels.
He tossed a perfect ninth inning. League has been dominant for much of this season. He's only allowed four earned runs since May 14, blowing only two saves in that span. The 28-year-old reliever is making a strong case that he should be the Mariners closer long-term.

He allowed two hits but escaped unscathed to protect the one-run lead. The 28-year-old reliever has allowed just two earned runs in 34 appearances since May 14. He's making a pretty good case that he should be the Mariners closer long-term.

According to FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi, the Mariners are likely to keep Brandon League, but they will continue to listen to trade offers.

Mon Jul 25 201120:56M's 'not likely' to trade Brandon League
Mariners president Chuck Armstrong told Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com that it's "not likely" that Brandon League will be traded.
Armstrong qualified his statement by saying "at this point," so it's not out of the realm of possibility. League, 28, has a 3.26 ERA and 23 saves in 27 chances this season and remains under team control through 2012. Morosi reports that the Reds have scouted Seattle pitchers, including League, in recent weeks.

Fri Jul 15 201115:36M's taking offers on Brandon League
FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Mariners are taking calls on reliever Brandon League.
League is having a fine year but is due to cash in over the offseason in his final year of arbitration after making his first All-Star squad. With David Aardsma due back next year or possibly even late this year, the M's don't want to give too much to a likely setup man.

Mon Jul 11 201112:01League has a 0.44 ERA in last 21 appearances
Brandon League has allowed just one earned run -- posting a 0.44 ERA -- in 21 appearances since May 14.
League started the year 9-for-9 in save situations, but went 0-4 with three blown saves and a 30.00 ERA in three innings between May 8-13. Since that time he has been one of baseball's best closers. League isn't striking out as many hitters as you'd like, but he's walked just seven batters all season and allowed only one home run, proving to be a great replacement for the injured David Aardsma.

Wed Jun 22 201119:57Brandon League available Wednesday
Brandon League (calf) is expected to be available to pitch Wednesday after throwing on flat ground and in the bullpen before the game.
"I'll be ready," League said. The closer left Tuesday's game after taking a line drive off his right calf, but he's no longer walking with a limp and feels much better. If Mariners manager Eric Wedge decides to play it safe and not use League, David Pauley, Aaron Laffey and Chris Ray are options to pitch the ninth inning.

Tue Jun 21 201122:05Brandon League leaves after comebacker
Brandon League left Tuesday's game with two outs in the ninth inning after being hit in the leg by a comebacker.
League threw a couple practice tosses but then limped off the field. We'll likely have an update on the closer's status after the game or on Wednesday. David Pauley came on after League exited and promptly served up a walk-off, three-run homer to Wilson Ramos.
