Wed Aug 9 202320:21Josh Jung Has Surgery Wednesday
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (thumb) underwent successful left-thumb surgery on Wednesday to install a plate and screws to stabilize his thumb fracture. The plan is for Jung to stay with the team and rehab with the expectation that he will be able to return before the end of the season. With the 25-year-old expected to miss roughly six weeks of action after fracturing his thumb on Sunday, he's not going to have much time left to help fantasy managers when he does return. It's a shame because Jung had been excelling in his first full season in the big leagues with a .274/.323/.489 slash line, an .813 OPS, 22 home runs, 67 RBI and 70 runs scored in 109 games. Until he returns, expect the Rangers to mix and match at the hot corner with Ezequiel Duran and Josh H. Smith.

Mon Aug 7 202321:22Josh Jung Going For Thumb Surgery
Texas Rangers infielder Josh Jung (thumb) is going to have surgery to stabilize his fractured thumb in the next few days. He is expected to be able to return to the field in six weeks, according to early reports. A return in six weeks would bring Jung back in mid-September for a final tune-up before the Rangers make their playoff push. Jung landed on the injured list earlier in the day on Monday after injuring his thumb while attempting to field a ground ball during Sunday's game. Jung was in the midst of a breakout season in 2023, hitting .275 with 22 homers, 70 runs, and 67 RBI across 108 games.

Mon Aug 7 202319:32Josh Jung Put On 10-Day Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed third baseman Josh Jung (thumb) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a left-thumb fracture and recalled infielder Jonathan Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move. There is no timetable for Jung's return, but he should be stashed in all fantasy leagues until further notice. Expect him to be out beyond the 10 days on the IL. The 25-year-old All-Star has excelled in his first full big-league season, hitting .274/.323/.489 with an .813 OPS, 22 home runs, 24 doubles, a triple, 67 RBI and 70 runs scored in 109 games and 461 plate appearances. Ezequiel Duran is starting at the hot corner for the Rangers on Monday in Jung's absence, but they could mix and match at the position until Jung is able to return.

Sun Aug 6 202319:15Josh Jung Expected To Miss Time
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (thumb) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. The 25-year-old was removed from the contest after suffering a thumb injury while fielding a ground ball. Jung underwent x-rays, which revealed a left thumb fracture. It's unclear how long Jung will be sidelined, but he'll almost certainly be placed on the injured list. The young slugger could miss the rest of the regular season, assuming he needs surgery. Fantasy managers will have to wait until the team gives more information on his status.

Mon Jul 24 202323:41Josh Jung Pops 20th Homer In Tough Loss
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's seesaw affair with the Houston Astros which ended in a 10-9 defeat. The 25-year-old smacked a first-inning two-run shot before a seventh-inning single would load the bases, ultimately allowing him to come around and score. With the long ball, Jung joined Adolis Garcia and Dave Hostetler as the only Rangers rookies to blast 20 homers before playing 100 games in their rookie year. After a slow start to his career last fall, the top Texas prospect is slashing a much-improved .275/.326/.490 with 20 big flies, 61 RBI, and one stolen base in 386 at-bats over 98 games during his All-Star campaign. Jung continues to jockey with Masataka Yoshida in the race for AL Rookie of the Year, but Gunnar Henderson is staging a push as well.

Sun Jul 9 202312:43Josh Jung Goes Deep Twice In Loss To Nationals
Texas Rangers rookie third baseman Josh Jung went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored in the team's 8-3 loss to the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Jung now has 19 home runs in his first full MLB season, which currently leads all rookies. The 25-year-old right-handed slugger also has hits in five of his last six games and will take a .276/.326/.503 slash line into the final game of the first half of the season on Sunday. Jung has also racked up 19 doubles, a triple, 56 RBI, a stolen base and 62 runs scored in 87 games and 371 plate appearances in 2023. He's one of the big reasons the Rangers are in first place in the American League West heading into next week's All-Star break.

Tue Jun 27 202317:19Josh Jung Sitting Tuesday
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung will take the day off on Tuesday as the team takes on the visiting Detroit Tigers. The Rangers are giving Jung a bit of a mental breather after he went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the loss to the Tigers on Monday. He has really been in a rut of late, with just eight hits in his last 42 at-bats (.191) spanning 11 games since June 15. Hopefully a day off will get him right again. Overall, though, the 25-year-old has been great for Texas in his first full MLB season, slashing .270/.324/.480 with an .804 OPS, 15 long balls, 15 doubles, a triple, 44 RBI and 52 runs scored in 321 trips to the plate over 75 games. With Jung sitting Tuesday, Josh Smith will get the nod at the hot corner and hit ninth against Tigers right-hander Matt Manning.

Jung has proven why he was considered a top prospect this season, slashing .284/.339/.509 with 44 RBI. He should continue to be a solid fantasy option if he can provide steady power in one of baseball's best lineups.

The 25-year-old is now hitting .400 with three HR and eight RBI in his last seven games. He is currently rostered in 72 percent of leagues, so he is available in some leagues and is worth a look for fantasy managers in need of a power boost.

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves. It appears the right-handed slugger is going to receive a much-deserved rest day. Jung has started in 17 straight games, which means he hasn't received a rest day since April 28. The 25-year-old is hitting .250/.292/.438 with eight home runs and 25 RBI in 40 games this season. Josh H. Smith will cover third base and bat eighth versus righty Spencer Strider on Wednesday.

Fri Apr 28 202317:11Josh Jung Playing Versus Yankees
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (hand) is back in the team's starting lineup on Friday to face right-hander Clarke Schmidt and the New York Yankees. Jung was hit by a pitch on his left hand and left the contest early on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds. He did not play on Thursday but will return for the weekend series against the Yanks. The 25-year-old is getting the start at the hot corner and will hit fifth in the Rangers lineup. An up-and-coming power threat in Texas, Jung should be returned to starting lineups now that he's back. In his first full MLB season, he's currently hitting .281 (25-for-89) with four doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI, a steal and 15 runs scored in his first 23 games.

Fri Apr 28 202312:25Josh Jung Expected To Return Friday
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (hand) was hit in the left hand by a pitch on Wednesday and was held out of Thursday's game, but manager Bruce Bochy expects Jung to try and push his way into Friday's lineup. Bochy said the decision would come down to the medical staff. Ezequiel Duran started at the hot corner with Jung out on Thursday. The 25-year-old Jung has been a vital part of Texas' lineup early this year, as he's hitting .281/.333/.494 with four doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI, a stolen base and 15 runs scored in 96 plate appearances over 23 games played. Thu Apr 27 202318:14Josh Jung Not In Lineup Thursday
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (hand) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the New York Yankees. X-rays on Jung's hand came back negative after he left Wednesday's game and it's being called a contusion. It looks like he's still day-to-day at this point, but fantasy managers will want to check to see if he gets into a game Friday or this weekend. Jung has been hitting 5th in the lineup all year and is having a good rookie season, so hopefully he won't be out much longer.

Wed Apr 26 202316:06Josh Jung Diagnosed With Left-Hand Contusion
Texas Rangers rookie third baseman Josh Jung (hand) left Wednesday's game early against the Cincinnati Reds in the top of the third inning after he was hit by a pitch, but he was diagnosed with a left-hand contusion after X-rays for a fracture came back negative. The 25-year-old dodged a bullet here, and fantasy managers should consider him to be day-to-day moving forward. There's a chance he'll be back in the starting lineup on Thursday. Jung was replaced at the hot corner by Ezequiel Duran on Wednesday. Jung didn't officially have a plate appearance before leaving, so he's still hitting .281 (25-for-89) with four doubles, five home runs, 16 RBI and a stolen base in 95 plate appearances over his first 22 games in his first full season with the Rangers.

Wed Apr 26 202314:11Josh Jung Leaves Early Following Hit By Pitch Wednesday
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung left Wednesday afternoon's contest against the Reds early after being hit on the hand by a pitch. The good news is Jung initially stayed in the game and played defense in the bottom of the second and X-rays for a fracture came back negative. While it seems he will avoid any serious injury, losing Jung would be a notable blow for the Rangers considering his hot start to the season. Prior to Wednesday's contest, the 25-year-old was hitting .281 with five homers and an .820 OPS across his first 22 games of the season. Ezequiel Duran replaced Jung in the Rangers' lineup and struck out in his first plate appearance.

Mon Apr 10 202316:13Josh Jung Resting On Monday
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Kansas City Royals. It's a well deserved day off after Jung played in the first nine games to begin the season. He's slashing .229/.270/.429 with a pair of homers and five RBI right now. The 25-year-old should be back in the lineup for their next game after a rest day here. In the meantime, Josh Smith will cover third base and bat seventh against righty Zack Greinke on Monday.

Thu Mar 30 202314:38Josh Jung Hitting Fifth On Opening Day
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung will hit fifth in the batting order on Opening Day against right-hander Aaron Nola and the Philadelphia Phillies. It's a big season upcoming for the former eighth overall pick as Jung should see nearly everyday action at third base if his bat can show up as advertised. The 25-year-old hit just .204 in his big-league debut last season but also slugged five homers while posting a strong .214 isolated power across 102 trips to the plate. Jung's 0.10 BB/K will need to gain significant improvement moving forward but he should get plenty of leash to show off his raw power for a Rangers team looking to jump back into contention in the 2023 campaign.

Sat Mar 18 202316:31Josh Jung Involved In Minor Car Accident, Uninjured
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung was part of a minor car accident on his way to the ballpark Saturday but was uninjured. He was not in the lineup for Saturday's game, however. Jung hit five home runs in 26 games for the Rangers last season and is ranked as the team's top prospect. Hopefully, Jung doesn't feel any delayed ill effects from the accident, and he can walk away unscathed. He's currently ranked as RotoBaller's 20th-best third baseman, though he has the potential to finish higher than that, with excellent power upside. Jung is now hitting .281 with two homers and five RBI this spring.

Fri Sep 9 202216:36Josh Jung Hitting Seventh In MLB Debut
Texas Rangers third base prospect Josh Jung is starting at third base and is hitting seventh in his major league debut on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Ross Stripling. Jung was in line to open the season on the big-league roster before he tore the labrum in his shoulder late in spring training. The club's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, and former first-rounder went on to hit .273/.321/.525 with an .846 OPS, six home runs, 24 RBI and 15 runs scored in 23 games for Triple-A Round Rock before his first major league promotion. The power-hitting prospect should see regular playing time at the hot corner the rest of the way in September and is worth picking up in all fantasy leagues if you're in need of some pop.

Wed Sep 7 202218:24Josh Jung To Make Rangers Debut Friday
Texas Rangers third base prospect Josh Jung will be recalled from the minors and will make his major league debut for the team on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, according to sources. A torn left labrum in his shoulder in spring training kept Jung from beginning the year in the major leagues, but he'll wind up debuting this year anyway, albeit a lot later than most expected. The team's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, hit a combined .267/.323/.542 with an .865 OPS, nine home runs, 29 RBI and 18 runs scored in 30 games for the Rookie-level club and Triple-A Round Rock this year. Although the 24-year-old won't have much time to make a fantasy impact for the rest of 2022, he's deserving of a pickup in almost all leagues if you need a power boost. Jung is likely to play regularly to close things out.
