He's taking the roster spot of Taylor Green, who was sent down Sunday. Bianchi, who will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game, has batted .319/.372/.378 with a homer and 12 steals between Double- and Triple-A this season. He'll back up at shortstop and second base.

Brewers claimed INF Jeff Bianchi off waivers from the Cubs.
It should clear a spot for left-hander Paul Maholm on the Cubs' 40-man roster. Bianchi, 25, was claimed off waivers from the Royals last month after he batted .259/.320/.333 over 499 plate appearances with Double-A Northwest Arkansas in 2011. The 2005 second-round pick missed the entire 2010 season following Tommy John surgery.

These cuts were made over the weekend. Bianchi, 24, missed all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The Royals are loaded with prospects and have other options at shortstop -- including Alcides Escobar and Christian Colon -- but if healthy, Bianachi could still find a home with the club at second base or as a utility infielder.

Before missing all of 2010 due to an elbow injury, Bianchi hit .308/.358/.435 with 9 homers in 22 steals at combined Single-A and Double-A in 2009. The young shortstop is expected to play in the minors this season.
