Fri Jun 18 201023:52Marlins transfer Baker to 60-day DL

Tue Jun 15 201016:39John Baker likely sidelined until mid-August
Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez said that the "best-case scenario" is that John Baker (elbow) will be able to return by mid-August.
Baker won't need surgery, but he was told to rest his ailing right elbow for four weeks. There's still a good chance he'll return later this season, but he can safely be dropped in NL-only formats. Ronny Paulino, who is batting .303/.335/.421 this season, should do just fine in his absence. He's worthy of attention in NL-only and some deeper mixed formats, as well.

Mon Jun 14 201017:11John Baker will not need elbow surgery
Dr. James Andrews told John Baker on Monday that he will not require elbow surgery.
Great news. Baker sought out a second opinion from Andrews after experiencing a setback during a rehab stint with Single-A Jupiter last week. Andrews told Baker to rest the elbow for four weeks before proceeding with baseball activities, at least giving him a chance at a return sometime later this season. In the meantime, Ronny Paulino is a must-own in NL-only and even in some deeper mixed formats.

John Baker is scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews in the next few days for a second opinion on his elbow injury.
Baker experienced a setback while playing in rehab games last weekend with Single-A Jupiter. Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez is not optimistic about the injury, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post, so it certainly sounds like major surgery could be an option.

Wed May 26 201000:01Baker (elbow) takes first swings off tee
John Baker (elbow) hit off a tee Tuesday for the first time since going on the disabled list.
He hopes to progress to taking flips on Wednesday before taking batting practice. Throwing will prove to be the last major hurdle before he goes out on a minor league rehab assignment, but there's currently no timetable as to when that will be. His usual platoon partner Ronny Paulino will continue to be the everyday catcher during his absence.
