Sat Aug 13 201116:05D'Backs place Nady on DL
Diamondbacks placed 1B Xavier Nady on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left hand.
Overbay suffered the bone break Friday when he was hit by a pitch. He's expected to miss at least a month, and possibly up to six weeks, while in recovery mode. The D'Backs have signed Lyle Overbay to provide depth at first base in the meantime.

Sat Aug 13 201114:57Nady out 4-6 weeks, D'Backs consider Overbay?
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Xavier Nady is expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a fractured left hand.
Rosenthal adds that the D'Backs are considering signing Lyle Overbay in the wake of Nady's injury. They could also just promote Juan Miranda from Triple-A Reno to take Nady's spot on the roster. Either way, we would expect Paul Goldschmidt to continue to receive the bulk of the playing time at first base moving forward.

Sat Jul 16 201100:58Xavier Nady hits three-run homer
Xavier Nady got the start at first base Friday and drove in three of Arizona's four runs with a homer off Clayton Kershaw.
The homer was just Nady's third in 167 at-bats this season. He's been a liability as a first baseman against left-handers, but his role doesn't figure to change in light of the Diamondbacks' Juan Miranda-for-Brandon Allen swap.

Sun Jul 3 201119:00Nady notches 26th RBI
Xavier Nady drove in the Diamondbacks' lone run in their 7-1 loss to the A's on Sunday.
Nady plated Chris Young with a fourth-inning single. Nady's 26th RBI was his first in five games. The owner of a .255/.298/.362 triple slash, he's a middling NL-only league option.

Wed Jun 22 201123:35Nady has nice night in win
Xavier Nady went 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in Arizona's win over the Royals on Wednesday.
He plated Wily Mo Pena with a fifth inning double. Given a real opportunity to lock down some playing time after Arizona released Russell Branyan, Nady has responded by hitting .227 in June.

Fri Jun 10 201122:09Nady hits second home run in loss
Xavier Nady went 2-for-2 with his second home run of the season in Arizona's loss to the Marlins on Friday.
He tagged lefty Mike Dunn for a solo shot in the seventh inning. The two-hit night improved his June average from .190 to .261. If Nady has slipped through the cracks in your NL-only league, he's certainly worth a flier in post-Russell Branyan Arizona.

Mon Apr 25 201117:54D'Backs' Nady starts second straight game
Xavier Nady is making his second straight start at first base Monday against the Phillies and Cliff Lee.
Nady figured to see most of his playing time in left field after the Diamondbacks made the decision to carry both Russell Branyan and Juan Miranda, but so far, all six of his starts have come at first base. He's 5-for-21 with three RBI in limited action. All but four of his at-bats have come versus lefties.

Tue Mar 29 201119:53Xavier Nady has big afternoon
Xavier Nady went 4-for-5 with a grand slam Tuesday in a 15-8 win over the Cubs.
The big performance might help cement Nady's status on the Opening Day roster, if he wasn't already a lock. He also played left field, which is important since he's been limited mostly to first base due to ongoing issues with his elbow. The D'Backs might take it easy on Nady early on in the season, but he should get plenty of at-bats as long as he's healthy.

Tue Mar 8 201120:30Nady (elbow) plays first base Monday
While Xavier Nady (elbow) played first base for the first time this spring on Tuesday, Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said it was not an indication that he won't be able to play left field by Opening Day.
Nady has had Tommy John surgery twice during his career and is still a bit limited with his throwing, but Gibson is confident he'll be ready to play the outfield when the games count. "He's fine," said Gibson. "He's throwing better than he was. Like I told you before we're trying to build up arm strength. It's just going to take time. He just needs to make it easier on himself and charge the ball and make it easier on himself, he can't lay back on it. He's got to just come up and work on getting rid of the ball quicker." While the D-Backs signed Nady with the outfield in mind, Gibson wouldn't dismiss him as an option at first base, particularly if they are facing a tough left-handed pitcher.

Tue Mar 1 201121:54Nady still limiting with throwing
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson acknowledged Tuesday that Xavier Nady (elbow) is still limited with his throwing.
Nady has had Tommy John surgery twice during his career, so the D-Backs have told him to take it easy for now. "That's OK. I told Nady not to worry about throwing anybody out," said Gibson. "We want him to build his arm strength up. Just throw the ball to the advancing base. That's fine. That's where he is. It's either that or shut him down. The only way to get arm strength is for him to throw the way he is now. It may take him awhile. He may never throw like he did before. I don't want him to panic about that." The Diamondbacks plan to use Nady primarily in left field this season, but their plans could change if he still has limitations by Opening Day.

Fri Feb 25 201117:36Nady says elbow will be issue this spring
Xavier Nady has admitted that his surgically-repaired elbow will be an issue for him during spring training, but he expects to be fine for the start of the season.
Nady had Tommy John surgery back in July of 2009, and last year the Cubs eased him into work in the outfield. It's not a surprise that he expects it to be an issue since it will be really the first extensive action he's seen in the outfield since spring training in 2009. Track his progress throughout the spring, though, as his playing time in the outfield could be limited early on in the season if he's still having issues.

Fri Feb 11 201117:22Nady likely to start in LF, Miranda at 1B?
Diamondbacks MLB.com beat writer Steve Gilbert considers Xavier Nady the favorite to start in left field and Juan Miranda to start at first base.
Nady can play either spot, and GM Kevin Towers has said he envisions the veteran receiving 400-500 plate appearances between the two positions. He's played a lot more in the outfield in his career, though. Gerardo Parra is the other main candidate for the left field job, but he'll likely be used as a backup at all three outfield spots. Brandon Allen will be given a shot at first base, but the D-backs are expected to give the first shot to Miranda, a former Yankee.
Fri Dec 17 201017:45Nady in line for 400-500 plate appearances
Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers said he expects Xavier Nady to receive 400-500 plate appearances between first base and left field.
He hasn't had that many the last two years combined after an injury-shortened 2009 and backup role in 2010. Nady hit .305/.357/.510 with 25 homers and 97 RBI in 2008, though, and he has a shot to have a nice bounce-back year in the desert. He'll share time at first with Juan Miranda and in left with Gerardo Parra. We suspect he'll end up with most of the at-bats at first base.

Fri Dec 17 201015:18D'Backs ink Nady to $1.75 million contract
Diamondbacks signed OF Xavier Nady to a one-year, $1.75 million contract.
The 32-year-old can also earn up to $1 million via performance-based incentives. He hit just .256/.306/.353 with six home runs in 317 at-bats this year for Chicago, but it wasn't long ago that he was crushing balls for the Pirates. The D'Backs will use him in the outfield and at first base.
Wed Dec 15 201022:42D'Backs reach $1.75M deal with Xavier Nady
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Diamondbacks have reached agreement on a one-year, $1.75 million contract with Xavier Nady.
Nady will play both first base and left field for the D'Backs next year. He batted just .256/.306/.353 with six home runs over 317 at-bats in Chicago this past season and probably won't be much of a fantasy option, even if he gets regular playing time in Arizona's power-friendly ballpark. The 32-year-old can earn another $1 million through performance-based bonuses.

Wed Dec 15 201014:26Report: D-backs close to signing Xavier Nady
John Gambadoro of 620 KTAR in Phoenix reports that the Diamondbacks are close to signing Xavier Nady.
Nady makes a lot of sense because he can help out both at first base and in left field, where the D-backs lack established options. He would share time with Gerardo Parra in left field and Juan Miranda at first base. Nady batted just .256/.306/.353 with six home runs over 317 at-bats with the Cubs this past season, but he is a decent rebound candidate in a hitter-friendly park and being another year removed from Tommy John surgery.

Wed Dec 15 201009:01D-Backs could consider Nady, Kearns
Steve Gilbert of MLB.com writes that the Diamondbacks could consider free agents Xavier Nady and Austin Kearns.
The Diamondbacks are currently in search of a right-handed bat who can play left field, so both players could be a decent fit, but Nady may have some extra appeal because of his ability to also play first base. Nady, 32, returned from Tommy John surgery this past season and batted .256/.306/.353 with six home runs and 33 RBI over 317 at-bats with the Cubs. Kearns, 30, batted .263/.351/.395 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI over 403 at-bats between the Indians and Yankees this past season.

Sat Dec 11 201018:28D'Backs look at Nady
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Diamondbacks are talking to free agent Xavier Nady.
The Diamondbacks have also been mentioned in connection with Derrek Lee since missing out on Paul Konerko. They don't necessarily need an everyday first baseman with Brandon Allen and Juan Miranda also options at the position, but they could sign one and keep Allen in left field.

Thu Aug 19 201010:23Nady and Hoffpauir to share time at first
After Wednesday's trade of Derrek Lee, Xavier Nady and Micah Hoffpauir are expected to share playing time at first base.
Hoffpauir has batted .276 with 22 homers and 92 RBI for Triple-A Iowa this season, but we're guessing that Nady will be more of a fantasy factor. He hasn't been great in limited playing time during his first season after Tommy John surgery, but he probably deserves the benefit of the doubt with fantasy owners.

Fri Jul 9 201021:29Rangers have strong interest in Nady
Bruce Levine of ESPNChicago.com reports that the Rangers have "strong interest" in Xavier Nady.
Nady, a right-handed hitter, could be used in a platoon at first base with Chris Davis. Of course, Nady is still owed a little over $1.6 million (plus incentives) for the rest of the season, so the cost-conscious Rangers will have to find a way to get the Cubs to eat the rest of the salary, possibly by tossing in an extra prospect.
