Tue Aug 16 201101:56Isringhausen notches 300th career save
Jason Isringhausen notched his 300th career save in New York's 5-4, 10-inning win in San Diego on Monday.
In typical Isringhausen fashion, he allowed two baserunners before inducing a game-ending groundout from Logan Forsythe. Izzy is just the 23rd pitcher in baseball history to reach the 300-save plateau. Now that Isringhausen has reached his milestone, it's quite possible the Mets might finally start mixing in Bobby Parnell in the ninth inning.

Tue Aug 9 201122:16Isringhausen notches sixth save of the year
Jason Isringhausen notched his sixth save of the season Tuesday, striking out one during a scoreless ninth inning in a win over the Padres.
Izzy has tossed scoreless innings each of the last two days -- picking up a win and a save -- after getting a six-day breather because he had given up six runs over his previous four appearances. Bobby Parnell could get the ball in a save situation Wednesday if Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't want his 38-year-old closer pitching three straight days. Isringhausen is two saves away from 300.

Wed Aug 3 201109:32Izzy to get day off Wednesday
Mets manager Terry Collins plans to give Jason Isringhausen the day off Wednesday.
Isringhausen has given up the go-ahead runs on back-to-back nights, so Collins will give him a bit of a breather. "He's the manager so I just do what I'm told," said Isringhausen. "If he needs me tomorrow, he'll tell me. If not, I'll just sit there and watch somebody else try to do the job." Bobby Parnell would likely get the ball in a potential save situation Wednesday.

Tue Aug 2 201122:28Izzy blows save in loss to Marlins
Jason Isringhausen blew his first save since taking over the closer role in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins on Tuesday night.
Izzy loaded the bases with one out before Justin Turner made an ugly throwing error on a ground ball which allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score. The last two losses don't fall completely on Isringhausen, but our money is still on Bobby Parnell closing games before the end of the season.

Sat Jul 30 201122:11Izzy 'very unlikely' to be traded
According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, closer Jason Isringhausen is "very unlikely" to be traded.
The Mets are probably hoping that Izzy qualifies as a Type B free agent this offseason and nets the club a compensatory draft pick when he signs elsewhere. The veteran right-hander has a strong 2.70 ERA in 36 2/3 innings this season for New York. Arizona had some level of interest.

Thu Jul 28 201116:50Jason Isringhausen notches fourth save
Jason Isringhausen recorded his fourth save despite giving up a Joey Votto solo homer Thursday against the Reds.
It's the first run he's allowed in nine appearances since July 3, so this won't hurt his case for more save opps. He's now sitting at 297 career saves.

Tue Jul 26 201118:07Isringhausen (elbow) unavailable Tuesday
Jason Isringhausen is unavailable Tuesday after throwing 29 pitches in Monday's win over the Reds.
Izzy negotiated his way through a stressful ninth inning Monday night for his third save in three chances since taking over as closer. Bobby Parnell has pitched on back-to-back days, so Pedro Beato might get the ball in a potential save situation Tuesday night.

Mon Jul 25 201122:26Isringhausen records third save of the season
Jason Isringhausen notched his third save of the season Monday, striking out two during a scoreless ninth inning in a win over the Reds.
He surrendered two baserunners but escaped unscathed. Bobby Parnell was once again used as his eight-inning bridge, an arrangement that looks like it will hold for the rest of the season. According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are "reluctant" to deal Isringhausen because they value him as a mentor to their younger relievers. The resurgent 38-year-old now has 295 career saves. He has a nice 2.60 ERA and 1.15 WHIP this season.

Fri Jul 22 201113:34Mets 'reluctant' to part with Izzy
According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are "reluctant" to deal reliever Jason Isringhausen.
Both Rosenthal and Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman believe the Mets value Isringhausen as a mentor to their younger relievers. That's all good and well, but it's very hard to believe the Amazins won't unload the resurgent 38-year-old righty if the right offer comes along.

Thu Jul 21 201112:05Report: Mets to keep Jason Isringhausen
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Mets "have apparently decided to keep" Jason Isringhausen.
There's been plenty of speculation that the Mets will trade Izzy before the deadline, but Heyman writes that they want him to mentor likely "closer of the future" Bobby Parnell. It's unlikely they would get much in return, anyway, plus Isringhausen has a legitimate chance at reaching 300 saves if he stays with the Mets for the rest of the season. He's currently at 294 for his career.

Tue Jul 19 201122:44Izzy shuts door for Mets, gains save No. 294
Jason Isringhausen notched his first save since August of 2008 Tuesday, tossing a perfect inning while recording one strikeout in the win over the Cardinals.
Izzy needed just 11 pitches to dispose of Matt Holliday, Lance Berkman and David Freese in order. Bobby Parnell pitched the eighth and loaded the bases before getting Albert Pujols to ground into a double play to end the threat. It appears Isringhausen is the one to go to for saves with the Mets right now, though he could be dealt before the trade deadline.

Tue Jul 19 201113:59Reds interested in Mets' Jason Isringhausen
According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports, the Reds have expressed interest in Jason Isringhausen.
Reds GM Walt Jocketty is familiar with Izzy from the days the two spent in St. Louis. He's a very different pitcher now, but the veteran right-hander is the owner of a cool 3.03 ERA and 1.02 WHIP. He would operate as a setup man for Cincinnati.

Fri Jul 15 201116:23Izzy would get save chance Friday night
Jason Isringhausen will get the ball in a potential save situation Friday night against the Phillies.
We had a feeling the Mets would lean this way, at least initially. They're likely attempting to pump up his value before the trade deadline, though it is worth mentioning that he is just seven saves away from 300 for his career. While Pedro Beato could also factor in here, we still believe Bobby Parnell will be the primary closer before the season is through.

Mon Jul 11 201109:16Izzy clarifies comments, open to trade
Jason Isringhausen clarified Sunday that he is not against a trade if it will help the Mets.
Izzy was upset, in fact, that his previous quotes made it sound like he was "begging" to not be traded. "I never [bleeping] said one thing about, 'Please don't trade me,' " Isringhausen told the New York Post. "Yeah, I talked to Sandy, but I never once said, 'Please don't trade me.' I said I'd like to stay here. I'd never plead with anyone about staying anywhere." The Mets are likely to shop him later this month and should find plenty of suitors.

Sun Jul 10 201120:28Isringhausen tells Alderson not to trade him
Jason Isringhausen told Mets GM Sandy Alderson that he would prefer not to be traded, according to the Daily News.
"I have two places in my heart -- St. Louis, because I'm from there, and New York, because this is where I started," Isringhausen said. "Those are my two favorite spots, and I don't think I'm going back to St. Louis anytime soon. And I love it here. ... To be able to get close, or maybe even make the playoffs, coming from a team that wasn't supposed to do anything, that's fun. If there is a chance that we can do that, I want to be a part of it." The Mets would have a market for Izzy if they choose to ignore his request. Isringhausen has been surprisingly effective for the Amazins this season, posting a 3.14 ERA through 35 appearances. If Francisco Rodriguez were dealt, Isringhausen would likely take over as closer.

Mon Jun 6 201111:36Izzy still pitching well in relief for Mets
Jason Isringhausen has a remarkable 2.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 24 relief appearances this season.
The Mets signed Izzy to a minor league contract this winter without much expectations. But he has blown away all his critics and has provided a steady presence at the back end of the New York bullpen. The veteran right-hander has 17 strikeouts in 19 innings.

Tue Apr 12 201105:15Isringhausen solid in first game back
Jason Isringhausen retired both batters he faced in his first relief appearance of the season.
Izzy kept the Rockies from scoring after inheriting a runner at third in a tie game. "I was nervous," he said. "That's what makes it fun."

Sun Apr 10 201118:17Mets recall Isringhausen from Triple-A
Mets recalled RHP Jason Isringhausen from Triple-A Buffalo.
Party like it's 2007, people! Izzy probably would have asked for his release were he not assured a spot on the roster soon, so the Mets complied by DFA'ing Blaine Boyer to make room for him. The 39-year-old right-hander battled back pain in spring training and will be a constant injury risk. He last pitched in the major leagues in 2009, putting up a 2.25 ERA in eight innings for the Rays. He last played for the Mets in 1999.

Sun Apr 10 201109:27Jason Isringhausen ready to go
Jason Isringhausen (back, elbow) pitched in extended spring training Saturday and has been declared ready to go when the Mets need him.
It's still unclear when, or if, they'll call him up, though. The Mets don't have much time to make a decision, as Izzy doesn't want to go to the minors and will probably ask for his release soon if he's not part of the Mets bullpen shortly.

Tue Apr 5 201118:16Isringhausen OK after tweaking back
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday that Jason Isringhausen is fine after tweaking his back on Saturday.
Sounds like a false alarm. Alderson said that Isringhausen's diagnosis of a stiff back over the weekend was "a tad reactionary." The 39-year-old right-hander remains on track on a 15-day workout plan and remains a possibility to join the Mets' bullpen at some point this month.
