Sat Apr 9 201102:58Indians' Hafner knocks in three in win
Travis Hafner had an RBI single and a two-run homer as part of the Indians' 10-run fourth inning Friday.
Hafner remains a rather productive DH when he's able to play, but that hasn't resulted in much fantasy value since 2007. It'd certainly help him out if some of the hitters around him could step up this season, and so far anyway, the Indians offense as a whole has been a nice surprise.

He's taking a seat against the left-hander Jon Lester. Shelley Duncan will be the designated hitter and bat fifth Thursday.

Sat Apr 2 201115:58Hafner homers off Edwin Jackson
Travis Hafner went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the Indians loss to the White Sox on Saturday.
Hafner is now four for his first nine this season. Sapped of his once prodigious power by shoulder woes, Hafner nevertheless posted an .825 OPS in 212 games the past two seasons, and should remain a solid AL-only league option when healthy in 2011.

Mon Mar 14 201119:03Hafner has big afternoon against Oakland
Travis Hafner went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI against the A's on Monday.
He had just one extra-base hit through 28 at-bats coming into today. Far from the masher he once was, Hafner could have a hard time reaching 20 home runs this season even if he manages to stay off the disabled list.

Mon Feb 21 201120:45Hafner may get more days off
Indians manager Manny Acta indicated Monday that he may give Travis Hafner more off-days in order to protect his surgically-repaired shoulder.
Acta tried not to use Hafner in more than four consecutive games down the stretch last season and the plan worked pretty well. "We're going to have to monitor is volume," said Acta. "We don't want to run him down to the ground way too early. I think throughout camp we're going to get a better feel of how he is physically and then I'll get together with our medical staff and see." Hafner, now 34, batted .278 with 13 homers and 50 RBI last season, including a .329 batting average and .932 OPS after the All-Star break. He can still be a reasonably productive player for the Tribe because of his ability to get on base, but his lack of power and positional eligibility zaps most of his value in fantasy leagues. Austin Kearns, Shelley Duncan and Carlos Santana are the most likely candidates to replace Hafner should he have scheduled off-days.

Sun Feb 13 201111:33Indians could release Hafner at some point?
The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Paul Hoynes thinks the Indians might consider releasing Travis Hafner at some point.
Hoynes writes that ownership needs to decide if they're willing to live with Pronk's dwindling production or just cut ties with him an move on. Teams rarely eat a contract like Hafner's -- he's due $13 million in 2012 -- without getting anything in return. Although he's a shell of his former self, Hafner is still a semi-productive player when healthy, as he's still able to get on base at a pretty good clip (.374 OBP in 2010) and has some pop. It seems unlikely the Tribe would just cut bait.

Tue Sep 21 201012:28Hafner expected to play next five games
Travis Hafner (shoulder) is expected to be in the Indians' starting lineup for each of the next five games.
Hafner was held out on Sunday and Monday but has insisted all along that his shoulder is fine. The oft-injured designated hitter is batting .270/.365/.437 with 11 homers and 43 RBI this season through 366 at-bats. He is under contract with the Tribe through 2012 at $13 million per season.

Mon Sep 20 201017:10Hafner out again Monday
Travis Hafner is out of the starting lineup for a second straight day Monday.
Indians manager Manny Acta said he planned to give Pronk regular rest down the stretch, but back-to-back days off indicates that perhaps something more is going on with his shoulder than we were previously aware of. Jayson Nix will be the designated hitter in Monday's game.

Sat Sep 11 201009:28Hafner getting rest for shoulder
The Indians are going with a schedule of four games on, one game off for Travis Hafner in order to protect his chronically injured shoulder.
The Indians had plenty of opportunities to use him as a pinch-hitter in Wednesday's 16-inning game, but manager Manny Acta wants to give him the day completely off when he doesn't start. Pronk was back in the lineup Friday. ''I'm trying to protect his shoulder," Acta said. "When he has a game off, he usually doesn't even take BP. It would take him awhile just to ramp up and get ready [to pinch hit]. So that's why I didn't use him (Wednesday).''

Mon Aug 30 201023:22Hafner gets four hits in loss
Travis Hafner went 4-for-5 at the plate in Monday's extra innings loss to the White Sox.
Pronk singled, doubles three times, scored a pair of runs and drove in one. He has eight hits over his last three games, bumping up his average to .282. It's really a shame what Hafner's shoulder problems have done to his power, because when he's healthy he can still hit.
Sun Aug 15 201016:08Hafner returns to lineup with a bang
Travis Hafner made a triumphant return to the Indians lineup Sunday, hitting a grand slam in the win over the Mariners.
The slam was the 11th of Pronk's career and was his lone hit in four trips to the plate. Hafner's shoulder is likely going to give him trouble the rest of his career, but if he can take Felix Hernandez deep, he's probably good enough to stick back into your lineup if you'd typically start him. He's batting .266 with 10 homers and 37 RBI on the year.
Sun Aug 15 201010:27Pronk activated from disabled list
Indians activated DH Travis Hafner from the 15-day disabled list.
Hafner spent just one day over the minimum amount of time on the DL with shoulder soreness. He's taken batting practice the last two days without any issues, so it appears safe to put him back in your lineup if you'd normally start him.
Sun Aug 15 201009:59Hafner could be activated from DL Sunday
Travis Hafner (shoulder) had a successful turn in batting practice again Saturday and could possibly be activated from the disabled list Sunday.
It's the second straight day that he took BP with no ill effects. "It feels good, it feels strong," Hafner said of his shoulder. "The inflammation is out of there. I think I'm in a pretty good spot." Indians manager Manny Acta said Hafner might be activated without going on a rehab assignment, but Acta wasn't sure what action the team would take yet. Either way, it sounds like Pronk should be ready sometime this week.

Sat Aug 14 201009:45Pronk has no issues with batting practice
Travis Hafner (shoulder) was able to take batting practice Friday without any issues.
He will take BP again Saturday, and if he has no problems again, he'll sit down with manager Manny Acta to determine the next course of action. It's possible he could go out on a short rehab assignment.

Thu Aug 12 201020:28Hafner set for batting practice on Friday
Travis Hafner (shoulder) will take batting practice before Friday's game.
Hafner was placed on the disabled list at the end of July with yet another case of shoulder soreness. If batting practice goes off without a hitch Friday, he should be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment shortly. "All I want is this guy to be healthy," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "Whether he's going to go back to where he was before, I don't know."

Tue Aug 3 201015:45Hafner placed on DL with sore right shoulder
Indians placed DH Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with a sore right shoulder.
Yet another shoulder ailment for Pronk. He's been sidelined since last Wednesday and will probably need more than two weeks of rest and rehab if this injury is anything like his previous ones. Hafner, 33, is batting .267/.368/.430 with nine home runs and 33 RBI in 270 at-bats this season. The Indians are likely to divide DH duties among several different players.
Mon Aug 2 201017:56Hafner (shoulder) could be headed for DL
Travis Hafner could be placed on the disabled list if the condition of his shoulder doesn't improve by Tuesday.
We'd love to say we're surprised, but we're not. Hafner is out of the starting lineup for the fifth straight game Monday. Jordan Brown, who was 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his major league debut Sunday, will be the designated hitter again Monday.

Sun Aug 1 201009:20Hafner hopes to return to lineup Sunday
Travis Hafner (shoulder) hopes to be back in the lineup Sunday.
He has missed the last three games with a sore right shoulder. Manager Manny Acta said that Jordan Brown, who was recalled on Saturday, would be the DH until Hafner was ready. Pronk says he'll attempt to play Sunday, but we'll see.
