Fri Apr 13 201209:05'No restrictions' on Hafner's playing time
The Indians have no restrictions on Travis Hafner's playing time.
Hafner was again plagued by his troublesome right shoulder in 2011, but hasn't experienced any issues thus far in 2012. "I'm just looking for durability," manager Manny Acta said. "He came into spring training from Day One just determined to have a good year and feeling the best he has in the last three years." He's off to a solid start at the plate, batting .267/.389/.533 to go along with two extra-base hits and four RBI through his first 18 plate appearances. With Hafner's $13 million team option for 2013 certain to be declined, he will be a free agent next offseason.

Thu Mar 22 201219:33Travis Hafner goes deep
Travis Hafner ripped a two-run shot -- his second of the spring -- Thursday against the Padres.
It was his lone hit of the day, but it was an especially impressive one given that it came off of tough lefty Cory Luebke. In fact, both of Hafner's longballs have been against salty southpaws, as he took Scott Downs deep earlier this month. He's also batting .345 this spring.

Sun Mar 11 201220:27Travis Hafner hits first spring homer
Travis Hafner hit his first spring homer Sunday off Angels reliever Scott Downs.
Hafner also singled in the contest after entering the day 1-for-10. The Indians will have the option of occasionally DHing Carlos Santana against left-handers, taking Hafner out of the lineup. Hafner will do his best to make sure it doesn't happen too often, though. A homer off a tough lefty like Downs should count for a little more than the typical spring training tater.

Tue Sep 27 201121:36Indians undecided on Travis Hafner surgery
The Indians have yet to make a decision on whether Travis Hafner will undergo offseason surgery on his ailing right foot.
The foot has been an issue for Hafner since all the way back in April and caused him to spend time on the disabled list from mid-August to mid-September. "We're in the process of evaluating that now," athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff said. "But I think we'd all agree that he's running pretty well right now. It's been very encouraging." If he does have an operation, he should be recovered in time for spring training.

Tue Sep 20 201115:40Travis Hafner hits two-run homer in win
Travis Hafner went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer Tuesday in the defeat of the White Sox.
Hafner has been limited to 88 games this season, but with a .280 average, 12 homers and 55 RBI, he's been a very solid DH when he's been able to play. The Indians are on the hook for another $13 million next year before their finally done with what's been a pretty horrible contract.

Sat Sep 10 201115:59Travis Hafner runs again
Travis Hafner (foot) ran the bases again prior to Saturday's game.
The Indians have not set a timetable for Hafner's return, but Jordan Bastian of MLB.com guesses Pronk will be activated during the series against the Rangers that begins Tuesday. He's been sidelined since mid-August with a strained right foot that's likely to be surgically repaired over the offseason.

Wed Aug 31 201116:39Hafner (foot) could still return this season
Indians skipper Manny Acta said Wednesday that he expects Travis Hafner (foot) to return this season.
Acta was probably being overly optimistic, as Hafner could still need season-ending surgery on his strained right foot if rest and rehab don't do the trick within the next couple weeks. He remains in a walking boot.

Sat Aug 27 201110:47Travis Hafner feeling better
Travis Hafner has reported improvement with his right foot.
Hafner remains in a walking boot and will see specialists early next week. "The diagnosis hasn't changed, but the necessary treatment, down time and intervention is evolving," Indians head trainer Lonnie Soloff said. The Indians haven't yet ruled out season-ending surgery, but it's obviously good news that he's feeling better.

Tue Aug 23 201111:52Hafner could need season-ending foot surgery
Travis Hafner could need season-ending surgery to repair his strained right foot.
Hafner was placed on the disabled list Monday after suffering the foot injury during Sunday's game against the Tigers. If he indeed undergoes the season-ending surgical procedure, it'll be another major blow to the Indians' playoff chances. They're likely to attempt a claim on Twins slugger Jim Thome, but so might other teams.

Mon Aug 22 201116:16Travis Hafner placed on DL with strained foot
Indians placed DH Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right foot.
Hafner suffered the injury during Sunday's game against the Tigers. He has struggled miserably since the All-Star break, anyway, but it will be interesting to see what the Indians do with the DH spot since Grady Sizemore is still likely a couple of weeks away. One possibility would be to make a claim on Twins' DH (and former Indian) Jim Thome.

Sun Aug 21 201120:56Hafner (right foot strain) to have MRI
Travis Hafner (right foot strain) will have an MRI exam on Monday.
Hafner left Sunday's game early with a right foot strain, though he did say he was feeling better after the contest concluded. Hafner said his foot has remained "a little sore" since the initial injury earlier this season and it bothers him most while running. Cleveland will make a decision on if he'll require a DL-stint on Monday.

Sun Aug 21 201116:30Hafner leaves game early after coming up lame
Travis Hafner left Sunday's game early after coming up lame on an RBI single.
Hafner wasn't pulled until his spot in the order came up two innings later. Though the single snapped a 0-for-16 stretch, we suspect that Hafner's been playing the last few weeks hurt. He has 21 strikeouts in his last 48 at-bats and has clearly been pressing at the plate. We're not sure of the severity of the injury, and we'll bring you an update when we know more.

Thu Jul 7 201122:49Hafner stuns Blue Jays with walk-off slam
Travis Hafner sent Indians fans home happy Thursday with a walk-off grand slam to cap off a ninth-inning rally against the Blue Jays.
The Tribe entered the final frame in a 4-0 hole, but an RBI single from Asdrubal Cabrera and Pronk's walk-off blast provided the fireworks. Though he's predictably missed time due to injury, Hafner has been fantastic when healthy, batting .347 with eight homers and 35 RBI over 150 at-bats.

Fri Jun 24 201112:33Hafner won't see time at first in NL cities
Travis Hafner will not make any starts at first base during the Indians' nine-game swing through National League cities.
Hafner's surgically repaired shoulder simply will not allow him to throw. Although he's likely to pinch in almost every game, he's probably best left on your bench in weekly leagues this upcoming week.

Wed Jun 22 201122:09Hafner's homer paces Indians
Travis Hafner hit what would prove to be the game-winning two-run homer in the sixth inning of Cleveland's 4-3 win over the Rockies on Wednesday.
He took Jason Hammel deep to right. The bomb was Hafner's second in five games since coming off the disabled list on June 17, and it seems safe to say he is no longer bothered by his oblique injury.

Fri Jun 17 201114:42Travis Hafner activated from disabled list
Indians activated DH Travis Hafner from the 15-day disabled list.
Hafner picked up three hits in six at-bats for Triple-A Columbus on a short rehab assignment and, more importantly, appears to be over his oblique issue. He's hitting cleanup against the Pirates Friday and will presumably do the same on Saturday and Sunday, but he'll be relegated to pinch-hitter duty during the team's nine-game road trip to National League parks.

Fri Jun 17 201110:27Travis Hafner won't play the field
Travis Hafner (oblique) will not play the field at all during the Indians' upcoming nine-game interleague road trip to San Francisco, Arizona and Cincinnati.
Hafner will probably be ready for activation from the DL early next week, but he'll initially be relegated to pinch-hitting duty. He hasn't played a game at first base since 2007. Hafner went 0-5 with a walk during a similar trip last season.

Travis Hafner (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday night with Double-A Akron.
